Nature in all of its stages are my favorite things. It is in nature that I find balance and solace for my soul and mind. There is something calming when observing nature in all of its stages.

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. As longs as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles.Anne Frank

The poetry of the earth is never dead.John Keats

Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature–the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.Rachel Carson

Amazing colors in the winter skies over these trees! Looking at this on the photopage, it matches the Flickr logo colors!

7DOS This looks very desirable right now.

Well, it is time to take to the air again.

In a few hours I lift off in big bird for a month away in England.

I expect to get online with a view to posting what I see.

I will get to your photos as time permits.

The weekly theme in the 52-week project is "on your way home." This is the route back home from the water park on a blazing summer day. The rain is only in my imagination.

This week’s 52F theme is macro—one of my favorite styles to shoot. I love how accessible it is: whether I’m indoors or out, there’s always something worth zooming in on. Tiny worlds, big impact.

For this shot, I used a custom-built light modifier I cobbled together from a microscope’s adjustable diaphragm and a snug PVC pipe fitting that mounts perfectly onto my torch. It gives me precise control over the light—no spill, just sculpted illumination exactly where I want it. It’s a simple rig, but incredibly effective for light painting and shaping highlights in tight compositions.

Macro photography always feels like a blend of science and magic. Add a little DIY engineering, and it’s even more fun.

"7 Days of Shooting" "Week #32" "Love or Loathe" "Black and White Wednesday"

Just a quick shot with my new camera (love) before I got carried off by those pesky mosquitoes (loathe). I have not been able to take a moon photo after dark with my previous cameras. I'll try again soon but I will wear insect repellent so I can concentrate on what I am doing rather than fighting off the mozzies.

this is an accurate representation of the past two weeks, actually.

i'm not going to MCAD anymore.

7 Days of Shooting/Week #32/Love or Loathe/Minimal Sunday

Week 32 - On the Way Home....I live in Squamish and this weekend was the Squamish Valley Music Festival. On the way home on Sunday I saw Mumford and Sons perform for a crowd of over 30,000.

This area of our garden has become a verdant "jungle" due to lots of rain and my "neglect" to get in the midst of it and do some thinning out. I quite like how it looks though. The tree trunk in the midst of all the greenery leads up to the 70-80 feet tall "giant" of the garden. A wonderful old maple tree with expansive limbs.

So much loss in so short a time.

Kim's theme for this week was "lit from behind or silhouette" and I had two ideas. This was the second one. It was quite a technical challenge to shoot and process and I hope is an indicator of how far I've progressed over the course of this project. It's wonderful trying new things, my vexel image was hard work, but it gave me a comfort level with the pen tool that will stay with me for some considerable time and I used it in the post-processing of this image.

Every curve.

My self-portrait project involves taking a picture each week that I post the following week on a Thursday. Feel free to critique - I welcome it. Thanks

Had a lot of fun with this theme. First couple of nights I tried my phone and got some OK results but last night I charged up the 5D and had a go with that.

This was about the best I got, you can clearly see Ursa Major (The Plough) above the trees at the bottom.

The beautiful green of the woodland reflecting nicely across the lake at Rozelle Park!

A view into the water enclosure at Penguin World, Woburn Safari Park. I tried with and without a xpol filter on the lens, this is without; I think the reflections add to the image, giving it a sense of place.

Week #32 Urban Fragments - Bear Bench in Grass Park. This bench is on the main street in downtown Brooklin, Ontario, Canada. Unfortunately the bench is exposed to the elements all year and the wood is deteriorating. Hopefully the town will do something to restore and protect it soon.

The camera, with its 'hood' on, has resulted in a reflection shape that looks like a daffodil to me!! :)

Still catching up with the 52 weeks groups...

The theme for week 32 in the 52 weeks of pix 2013 group was Planes, trains or automobiles.

So here is a picture of a couple of trolleys taken outside the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, Maine.

The Seashore Trolley Museum was founded in 1939 with one open trolley car, No. 31 from the Biddeford & Saco Railroad Company. Today, the collection contains over 250 transit vehicles, most of them trolleys, from all over the United States, Canada, and many other countries. They are the oldest, and largest electric railway museum in the world.
