Paris, 30 Juillet 2027
Heureux hasard hier matin : la troupe du Moulin Rouge au Trocadéro était réunie sur l'esplanade pour un shooting.
Le Trocadéro est un haut-lieu des JO. Le "Parc des Champions" y est installé et toute la perspective, jusqu'à l'extrémité du Champ de Mars, est vouée aux JO donc "bouclée". Une petite partie de l'esplanade a donc été concédée aux touristes pour qu'ils puissent photographier la Tour Eiffel et faire des selfies. Cantonnés derrière une barrière, loin de l'extrémité de l'esplanade, on ne voit rien de ce qui se passe "en-bas" mais on peut entendre les clameurs, les speekers et fréquemment retentir l'hymne olympique.
Exceptionnellement pour ce week-end je poste 5 photos et une vidéo de la Belle Échasse Blanche prises dans la réserve ornithologique du Teich.....
Il était 11 h nous l'avons vue monter sur le monticule, et nous n'avons pas remarqué tout de suite qu'il y avait un œuf dessus, nous étions très contents du spectacle et ravis pour ce couple d'Echasses....
Dans l'après-midi nous sommes repassés au même endroit et nous avons constaté amèrement la disparition de l’œuf qui a été prédaté......Probablement par un Milan Noir qui depuis quelques temps déjà fait des ravages dans la réserve...

This storm came ashore in the middle of the day on Friday, 9 Dec. Almost immediately the power went out in the entire town of Gold Beach and the Internet went down as well. Darkness quickly followed, and Tidda and I huddled together for seven hours listening to the storm. Those hours seemed like an eternity!
I lit my candles that I had left over from Blanca's memorial, and I got out my emergency hand-crank radio that was part of my hurricane preparedness kit when I lived in Florida. But I found no relevant information whatsoever, only AM stations from Seattle and Vancouver, BC, talking about local traffic.
The storm howled and raged all night long. At one point, Tidda seemed to need to go outside at her normal evening time. We did attempt it. There were multiple garbage cans tumbling down the street, branches and rain gutters flying about ... it was literally too dangerous to be outside and we basically ran back into the house!! I've lived here almost 10 years but I think this was the worst storm I've experienced!
However, I'm quite baffled that I can't find much information on what happened. I bought the tiny local paper and the storm wasn't even mentioned. I've searched online and get all kinds of forecasts and warnings about Diaz but hardly any real information like what the wind gusts actually were. The few weather stations in Gold Beach all show 0 wind for that day, which I assume could mean that that they were knocked out right away.
In Crescent City, 1 hour's drive to the south, winds were in the mid 30s mph (50s km per hour) with the strongest gust recorded at 63 mph (101 km per hour), so I suppose it must've been something similar here in Gold Beach.
I filmed this the next morning.
We already had some beach erosion happening in the last several weeks but in the storm a lot more happened. At the end of the video you can see the orange cones, scattered by the wind. They had been set up to warn cars away from driving along the edge like they normally do because big chunks have been simply washed away. One of those chunks is the spot where Blanca took her last steps on this earth.
I know there was a lot of snow and chaos elsewhere in the country for a whole week in the wake of this system, but this is what it was like in my little corner.
It reminded me to appreciate the comfort of electricity and lights and access to information!

standing in awe at black sandy beach looking at iceberg at Jokulsarlon, Iceland. I surmise that the black sand reflected mire infra red heat unto the ice , hastening the slow meltdown of these ancient ice blocks
So, I now have this little baby bunny running around in my garden. Sky and Sunshine were very interested in the underneath of one of the garden sheds, so I set up a camera only to find this little bunny going in under there. The next day it was out in the garden munching on the grass and running away when we came out. I've filmed it from the kitchen window. It's so cute!! I have no idea why it's here on it's own.

Comme on peut le voir ici, si la crue affecte les activités liées au fleuve, son niveau, un peu plus élevé cette année, reste dans la norme des crues de printemps. En regard des images terribles qu'on voit à la TV, je ne veux pas donner l'impression fausse d'une situation critique à Paris. Seule une partie des berges et des quais bas est touchée. Toutes les installations techniques qui pourraient souffrir de la crue sont soit amovibles et mises à l'abri soit situées à un niveau plus élevé et protégées. Des infiltrations dans des caves et sous-sols faisant toutefois partie des aléas récurrents.
