The jump...

An hour into our mountain ride ride, at 10,000 feet my daughter, me, and cowboy Thom were overtaken by a storm. Heavy rain turned to sleet turned to snow.. My horse bucked with each thunderclap which seemed to be directly overhead. Thom did not hesitate nor faulted. In true cowboy spirit we continued upward.

As we ascended to an overlook we were gifted with a heavenly vista of the grand valley below.

On our return the stream we had crossed had turned into a river, no problem for Thom.

And at the sight of the stables our two horses suddenly broke into full gallop towards the sweet meadow grass... Hold tight !!

This male adult Northern Flicker should get the dad of the year award. He is the most attentive parent and has been patient in showing this juvenile around the suet feeders. I also like the juvenile Downy Woodpecker who had enough sense to leave the deck. Taken through the kitchen window. Sorry about the sound but I can't figure out how to remove it. I was next to my refrigerator.

I hope you enjoy this video of some very colorful hummingbirds. Actually, there are only two species. A Fiery-Throated and in one scene a Mexican Violetear came for a not so friendly visit. I wish that I could see these beautiful hummingbirds in the wild up close and personal.

A slightly mesmerizing scene at sunrise this morning.

About 9 minutes of video reduced to about 38 seconds. The black objects flying about are Magpie geese coming in to land in the back yard. The sunrise is to the right and the cloud is about 50km away, over Cape Hotham and moving westerly. (roughly) Shot at 155mm

When I first got up there was some lightning leaping out from the bottom of the cloud. but oh, no I cunningly waited until all that stopped then got the camera out. ( I am being critical about myself for taking too long to think about getting the camera out.)

The first play is a bit stop start but second time you play it, in the same session, the vid should run smoothly.
