Muisca metalwork divides into two categories: ornaments to be worn, such as these, and offering figurines, in the case to the right. The elaborate bird pendant features delicate herringbone moldings, openwork patterns, and wing details-all part of the wax model from which the pendant was cast (see nearby computer animation). This necklace is composed of 85 hollow gold beads, the openings edged with twisted wire. The beads are threaded onto a chain made of double loops of wire constricted in their centers and twisted so that the end loops are in perpendicular planes. The bulls' head finials have a collar consisting of a garnet bead held between gold cups encircled by smooth and twisted wire and a row of tongues. Each collar terminates in a gold cone, then a ring of twisted wire, and is attached to the chain by coiled, hollow wire. The forelock and mane of the bull are chased; the inlay of the eyes is missing. One bull holds in its mouth the hook, the other the loop.
Chain necklaces threaded with gold or garnet beads and ending in animal head terminals were popular throughout the Hellenistic period.

The Fanny Tewksbury King Collection
This bottle vase's globular body and tall straight neck are painted with designs in underglaze cobalt blue on white porcelain. A series of Fu Lions are depicted playing with brocaded balls, tassels waving lively around the bounding animals. The lions, characterized by their manes and fluffy tails, are Buddhist guardians often portrayed in similar scenes as the one depicted on this bottle. On the shoulder of the vase is a diaper band filled with blooms while the neck is painted with a creature; it shares the serpentine body of a dragon but lacks a mane or claws. The mystical creature's split tail forms leafy vines surrounded by dispersed flames and an effulgent pearl. Just beneath the lip of the vase are two rings.
