I feel a bit weird posting this. I am so ugly when I cry. It seems a little voyeuristic to post a picture of me crying. I've actually wandered across groups on flickr dedicated to women crying . . . And it's seriously weird that I took a picture of myself crying. I am so odd. It's just that people pose for the cameras all the time, and here I am just vulnerable and . . . yeh, I'm taking this whole "365 shows you who you really are" thing very seriously.
People always used to tell me I was pretty when I cried. I could see it too. That sounds odd, but I never cried in an ugly way, unless I was really hamming it up in front of a teacher or something . . . Then I started crying about things that were really causing me serious pain, and it all got ugly after that . . .
This lasted ten or fifteen minutes. Then I stopped being so self-pitying and pulled myself together.
I've never seen my mouth pulled like that before . . . it's like I'm grimacing. Eew.
I'm torn whether to post this or not, so, I'll post it for a little time, while I'm doing my History or something, and then see how I feel. It's a big thing letting strangers see you at your weakest moments. I feel embarrassed if my friends see me like this.
OMGG. OMGG. OMGG. This isn't the reason I was crying. Let's just get that sorted.
Anyway, when I donated blood the other day they told me that if there were any problems with my blood they'd call me. So the phone rang earlier this evening and my mom said it was the National Blood Service for me. At this point I started hyperventilating and was thinking "OMGG I HAVE HIV". Then the woman said they were just calling to say thank you for donating and to ask if there was any way in which they could improve the service. I was still trying to calm down at this point so I just garbled that it was all great. My mom then wanted to know what was wrong seeing as they'd called and it was like "Nothing, they just decided to scare the shit out of me." They shouldn't say they'll only call if there's something wrong with your blood. That was horribly scary and I'm still calming down. Good news though, I don't have anything wrong with my blood. It's all lovely.

After all those photos from bike tours up the Redwood Coast, you might be wondering, how did people get around California before modern intermodal public transit and touring bikes? Well, since it's #ThrowbackThursday, here's a photo of how things were done in the latter half of the 20th century: we'd pile into a dangerous contraption called the Chevy Biscayne and drive it up to Lassen Volcanic National Park.
Oh, and since this week's #ThrowbackThursday theme is Women's Fashion, take a gander at my roommates' desert couture. (Me, I leaned towards the Kliban.)

For those not familiar with rugby after each match the players from one team form a tunnel and the opposition go through shaking hands and forming another tunnel as they exit. This was a hard fought match but played in a great spirit and I tried to capture this with a different type of shot to my usual facial close-ups.
This tiny town, still bypassed with no bitumen road was once a bustling railhead town and a stop for the bullock teams on their way to Port Wakefield from the Burra copper mines. Today it has a population of around 300 people but most of those live on the farming properties just outside of the town. The first white settler to have a leasehold over the land here was Walter Watson Hughes, later Sir Walter, who was the major investor in the Moonta copper mines and is often labelled the “founder of the University of Adelaide” because of his generous donations to the fledgling university. His grand estate established in the 1860s was Hughes Park near Watervale but his first property was The Peak which he took up in 1851 near Hoyleton and Skillogalee Creek which flows down into the Wakefield River. The Peak is just north of Hoyleton where the road ends. Hughes searched for copper in the hills by Hoyleton but without success. Hoyleton appears to have been named after Mr J Hoiles who was the publican at the Port Henry Arms (later Port Wakefield) Hotel in 1850-51. He later gave his name to some hills near Skillogalee Creek called Hoyles Hills and beyond Hoyles Plains. The first farmers started arriving in the district in 1853 with names such as Cowled and Catford. Both of these families were Bible Christians. By 1861 there were about 20 people in the whole district and they were talking about building a Bible Christian chapel for Hoyles Plains. A cottage/preaching house was built on land donated by Malachi Brain in 1863. The land was transferred back to the Brain family in 1872 after Hoyleton began as a town. From 1871 Hoyleton became a preaching place for the Bible Christians as the caretaker of the railway sheds conducted services in the rail sheds. The Bible Christian preaching place at Hoyleton disappeared when the Wesleyan Methodists built there church there in 1876.
In 1866 a public meeting was held in Clare to discuss a suitable railway terminus for the Clare valley and the meeting concluded that Hoyles Plains would be suitable. Hoyles Plains was in the public notice at that time as the Hoyles Plains Bible Christian Methodist cottage had opened there in 1863 and the Ebenezer Lutheran church( it closed in 1947and was demolished in 1949) had opened there in 1866. In 1869 a road was opened through the hills to the Clare Valley from Hoyles Plains and also in that year the government selected Hoyleton as the site of the terminus for a horse tramway from Port Wakefield. The railway was needed to open up the Hoyles Plains area for farming and to give access to the Clare Valley. In 1870 the horse drawn tramway started operating to cart wheat down to the port. Trains left Port Wakefield daily at 2:30 pm reaching Hoyleton at 6 pm and left Hoyleton daily at 8 am reaching Port Wakefield at 11:30 am. The 1871 SA census showed that there were 282 people in Port Wakefield, 79 in Hoyleton and a mere 24 in Balaklava. The horse tramway was financed by the government but leased out to private individuals to run the service. Firstly it was leased in 1870 to Mr Badcock who soon relinquished the lease to Mr Ferguson. Neither was able to obtain a profit and the service was in financial difficulties. The government reclaimed the railway, strengthened the 3’6’ gauge and started a steam engine service on the line in 1876. At that same time the line was extended from Hoyleton to Blyth as that was a mere 8 kms from the town of Clare. When the tramway opened huge sandstone rail sheds and wheat store sheds were constructed at Hoyleton by S Sanders who carved his name and the date (1870) into a stone on the northern facade. Fortunately the structures are still in good condition.
The town of Hoyleton was surveyed and blocks of land put up for sale in 1869. The advertising blurb highlighted the fact that there was excellent stone for building just one mile away from the proposed town. The Hoyleton Hotel was licensed from 1871(it closed around 2012); Hoyleton state school opened in 1878 (and closed in 1971); a District Council was formed in 1879; a hall was opened in 1908; a Wesleyan Methodist Church was opened by 1878 ( it was extended in 1954 and closed in 1985.) By the early 1870s Hoyleton had a Post Office, a general store, a saddler and blacksmith. Alas it did not progress much beyond this. The most talked about resident of Hoyleton was the daughter of the local stationmaster, Evelyn Masters who got employment as a stewardess with the White Star Line. In 1912 she was rostered on the maiden voyage of the Titanic. Evelyn was one of only two Australians saved from the sinking ship, despite her being a stewardess. The town of Hoyleton and her parents thought her dead. But she lived, returned to Australia, married a doctor and then lived for a while in Ruthven Mansions in Pulteney Street before spending the rest of her live in Sydney. The War Memorial Gates in Hoyleton are possibly unique as they use stobie poles! They replaced the original wooden posts which were eaten by white ants.

For those of us intent on recycling those old newspapers and cans, Lane Gosnay of The Bugle Boy (a music venue that presents touring musicians in a living room type setting) in La Grange, Texas has taken the green concept and turned it into a challenge for everyone with one of the first solar-powered trucks in Texas. States Gosnay, "After seeing a documentary on Who Killed the Electric Car, I searched the internet to create a change for myself and act on the go green idea by investing in the SUNN electric vehicle. It makes a great enhancement to The Bugle Boy environment." Maintenance is a dream--consisting of checking the batteries, then the tires, and chain, like a bike. The creation of builder Art Haines of Maine, this green gem is the third he's produced and is street legal, goes 28 mph easily and has a range of 30 miles. What makes this electric vehicle unique is the large diameter wheels resulting in lowest rolling resistance, high use of free solar energy, low weight, and efficient power transmission to the wheels. What's next for Lane? "I'd like to eventually power The Bugle Boy with an alternative energy source, but for now I am enjoying getting around at no cost and being a part of something world changing. I'd like to see everyone take a hard look at what they are doing to preserve the natural resources we have and I challenge our community to be inventive and become part of the preservation solution. The internet is a vast source of amazing information. A simple search of "solar trucks", "electric vehicles", "no gas", “water conversion kits” or "magnet motors" will bring up several links to people manufacturing alternative energy solutions out of their own garages. Folks are taking out the engines in their cars and trucks and replacing them with electric motors. Others have invented working magnet motors or are converting existing gasoline engines to run with water increasing fuel efficiency by 40% or more. These are exciting times because information is viral over the internet and people can share the things that they are inventing. Real change will be driven by the people. I am launching a web page called www.nogasneeded.com where I will list links to some of the informative and interesting things that I have found online.”
On display in the 'Land of Liberty Peace and Plenty' at Heronsgate near Chorleywood, Hertfordshire (go there, super pub) is this rather out-of-date price list. Dated 1966, it is of course priced in shillings and pence. For those who've forgotten (or never knew) a shilling is equal to 5p. One new penny is equal to 2.4 old pence. Wish pubs nowadays had a selection of different sorts of beer like that in bottles. Though not clear, the 'National Beers' were also in bottles. That was the only place lager appeared on the price list. There wasn't much call for it then. Only women and homosexuals drank the wretched stuff!

One of the smaller stages at the 2014 St Pauls Carnival, Mandela's Hideaway stage put on various attractions aimed primarily for children. When I was here though it was mainly recorded music being played. The carnival was marred by six stabbings that took place later in the evening but while I was there the mood was very good-natured.
I have to admit, I bought him because of the pants. How groovy are they?
The estate sale mom was a sewer, so they may be handmade, but the shirt has a "made in Hong Kong" tag so he may be wearing clone pants.
I'm pretty sure Mattel never made them. :-)

Taking place in the picturesque grounds of Catton Hall, in South Derbyshire, the three day event also boasts its own Real Ale and Cider Festival, an onsite Sculpture Village (complete with a working forge and chain-saw wood carving), impromptu music and singing sessions, morning yoga, on-site luxury camping and a rolling programme of family-friendly activities.
A spokesperson for The Big Session said: “Over the last seven years, the festival has built a great reputation as a welcoming and enjoyable festival with a broad appeal, and that’s something we’re very proud of.

July 12th 2015 New Rochelle, New York, was in attendance at the Image Entertainment Distinction Awards 2015 (IED) where honorees were awarded and most importantly, recognized for their contributions to fashion, entertainment, and to humanity. In its’ third year the IEDs continues to garner more and more support and recognition from many in the industry. The IED’s founder, Diva Madonna Williams, is also a celebrity blogger and founder of GlamSenseDivas, and is well respected and admired by many in the fashion and entertainment industry.
Madonna WilliamsAt tonight’s award show, attendees were treated to a red carpet event where various press and media personnel and many of the guest took photos of the lovely Madonna Williams along with honorees, performers, sponsors, host, and hostess. Tonight’s host and hostess was TV. Film Producer and Professor of Medicine Howard Smith and Executive College Radio Producer and BET Correspondent Ivy Rivera. Presenters were Gospel Music Artist Terrell “T-Rex” Simon and VH1’s Love & Hip Hop New York reality star Chrissy Monroe. Entrigue spoke with some guest to get their thoughts on the awards show and entertainment and the sentiment was all the same. Everyone had a great time and the feel was more than just an awards show, it was a feeling of celebration. E.C. Salsero had attendees amazed with his vocal performance and he even serenaded IED’s Diva Madonna while they danced down the runway. Other performers included R&B music artist Sherma Andrews, dancer/model and “Rising Stars Award” winner, Abby M. Santiago, child dancer/actor and “Rising Stars Award” winner Douglas Baldeo. Santiago’s performance was a tribute to actress and
“Lifetime Achievement Award” winner Janet Hubert
who was unable to attend but Hubert sent a video thanking fans and supporters and the IEDs for their recognition, support, and award. Balbeo’s performance paid tribute to Business
Woman/Philanthropist, and “Humanitarian Award” winner Dr. Deborah Williams. Stylist and “Image Award” winner Ty Hunter,
Celebrity Chef, and “Lifetime Achievement Hospitality Award” winner Chef Carlos La Cruz,
actor, and “Media Award” winner Marc John Jefferies. Actor/model,
“Model of the Year Award” winner Prakash Patil gave us touching words with a heartfelt acceptance speech.
The “Musical Director Award” went to Janelle Abraham. The “Media Award” went to Publicist Bridget O’Brien. The final honorees were:
