Those needles are sharp and strong. They won't buckle under pressure. Some serious damage would occur if you fell into that.

Valley of the Gods is a scenic sandstone area near Mexican Hat in the San Juan County, southeastern Utah. It is close to Monument Valley, and has similar rock formations. This is a smaller scale version of Monument Valley, with tall, red, isolated mesas and cliffs standing above the level valley floor, remnants of some ancient landscape.

The Valley of the Gods area may be toured via a 17 mile dirt road (FR 242) that winds amongst the eerie formations; this is rather steep and bumpy in parts but should be passable by normal vehicles in good weather. The western end joins UT 261 shortly before its 1,200 foot ascent up Cedar Mesa at Moki Dugway, while the eastern end starts 9 miles from the town of Mexican Hat along US 163 and heads north, initially crossing flat, open land and following the course of Lime Creek, a seasonal wash, before turning west towards the buttes and pinnacles.

This is basically the apartment building BEHIND mine. Mine is fine. Safe and sound. But those behind me weren't so lucky. The whole building seems to have suffered from the flames.

I'm grateful for thoughtful friends.

Those heading south, who also want to escape the mass-tourism soullessness of Vung Tau, could press on to Long Hai, a less-commercialised seaside retreat within a couple of hours’ drive of HCMC. The fishing village of Long Hai, 30km northeast of Vung Tau, has a pretty white-sand beach and the area benefits from a microclimate that brings less rain than other parts of the south. Its natural beauty and microclimate are the main reasons why Bao Ðai, the last emperor of Vietnam, built a holiday residence here (now the Anoasis Beach Resort).

Long Hai is a peaceful place to visit during the week, but it loses its local character on the weekends when Vietnamese tourists (and the occasional busload of Chinese visitors) pack the sands on weekends. Though there are a couple of low-key resorts in the Long Hai vicinity, western travellers have yet to arrive, so if you’re looking for a lively spot with dining and nightlife action, Mui Ne is probably a better choice.

For those chilly evenings, Evangeline and friends prefer to wrap themselves in velvet and watch the sun dip below the horizon. Featuring a black dress beneath an exquisite pink velvet coat with taffeta and sparkle trim dotted with a bow at the collar, and a pristine black hat with a birdcage veil of dotted tulle and feather and flower deco, Evangeline will be kept toasty warm. One of Evangeline's favorite sewing projects! Fits hard plastic Evangeline and friends. LE 250
