For those that aren't familiar with London this is the Greenwich foot tunnel. It runs under the Thames and connects Greenwich with the Isle of Dogs, leading onto Canary Wharf a mile or two beyond. At both ends of the foot tunnel is a lift plus a set of stairs. I used to know the exact number of steps to get to street level because when I was still working my folding bicycle and I used to go through this foot tunnel twice a day and more often than not one or both of the lifts would be out of service. Not sure how reliable they are these days but what I can say is when I used it on my recent visit it was working just fine. So this is me up against the wall of the lift shooting back through the glass doors towards the tunnel just as the doors have closed.

And are those real angels in the magazines?

Oh, is there a heaven?

You'd know now you've been

Are those real stars that hang in the sky?

Or are they man-made, a trick of the light?

Amen, amen, amen

And is there a God up there?

So, where does He hide?

'Cause the devil is raging inside my mind

And is there a moment when it all makes sense?

When saying goodbye, doesn't feel like the end?

Amen

Amen

Amen, amen

Sometimes I can't help blaming You

For leaving me here, what am I supposed to do?

There's plenty of women, there's drink and there's drugs

But we both know that won't be enough

'Cause I see You in the daytime, and I hear You at night

There's a pale imitation burnt in my eyes

I don't wanna be here, I don't know what to do

Sometimes I'd rather be dead

At least then I'm with You

Hope is eternal, that is what makes life worth living. Sometimes we want to give up, but never give up as one door closes another door opens. Believe. I wish that I could make a difference for the Syrian and other world refugees, even so, I will not give up hope for them.

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! xo💜💜

Sambar Deer is a large deer that inhabits much of Southern Asia and can be found in a variety of forest habitats. These hardy species are seen congregating in large herds in the national parks and reserves of Sri Lanka, India and Thailand. The Sambar deer found in Sri Lanka is a sub-species found only in the island nation known as Rusa unicolor unicolor. This sub-species is one of the largest found in the world, and has the largest antlers both in body and in size.

Small, brightly-colored leaf warbler. Yellowish green above and pale below, with bright yellow brow stripes, a pale crown stripe, and a bicolored bill (dark above, orange below). Has two wingbars, of which upper can be quite pale or absent. Note white undertail and distinct behavior of flicking both wings at the same time (Blyth’s, Claudia’s, and Hartert’s leaf warblers flick their wings alternatingly). More extensively yellow and with a stronger, more contrasting head pattern than Blyth’s and Emei leaf warblers, and lacks the bright rump patch of “Pallas’s-type” leaf warblers. Closely related Kloss’s Leaf Warbler is extremely similar; look for Davison’s brighter and more extensively white undertail coverts. Breeds in deciduous broadleaved and mixed hill and montane forest; descends into forested foothills in the non-breeding season. Song is short and sweet: “wih-chew-chee wih-chew-chee-wih”. Calls are high and liquid-sounding: “chew-wee” or “wit-chew-wee”. (eBird)

-----------------

We saw these little warblers quite frequently, flitting rapidly through the trees. This one was chasing insects in the more inaccessible sections of the trees, but came out to give us a quick once-over before resuming the hunt.

Thanks to Daren who alerted me to the fact that I had mis-ID'd this warbler. I used Merlin Photo ID and compared my other photos with those from eBird to realize that this was not a Hume's Warbler, but a Davison's Leaf Warbler.

On the 3rd day of my journey south I pulled over to let those in a hurry pass by and to take a moment to feel where I was.

Dimly lit forests make such good subjects for my Slow Shutter app ... and this one was particularly dark and creepy.

There was only one, much overused (by me), but somehow completely appropriate tune to put to it.

The Xantus Hummingbird is one of three endemic birds to the Baja Peninsula, specifically the southern end. The XH appears in various locations down there. I found this bird in a beautiful garden outside of Todos Santos, which is on the southwest side of the Baja near the very bottom.

If I'm honest, my luck was ridiculously good. I took a two hour bus ride, walked 3 km up some hills on dusty roads (the previous image is taken from that walk). As soon as I arrived at what I believed was the likely location, I heard the hummingbird give its distinctive one-note chirp. I glanced upward, and there he was. I got pretty good shots before he flew off to other parts of this very well maintained garden of flowers and cacti.

I then walked down to the water to look for gulls and photograph Frigate birds. Once I had finished that, I thought I might as well have another look for the Xantus Hummingbird. This time he landed on the leaf of an Agave Cactus with the sun hitting him and illuminating the spaces between the cactus's other leaves.

I have to put in the effort to find the birds. The bird also has to be in the same place at the same time as I. Those are pretty great odds. Getting a glorious shot is just great luck.

This is an example of what I call Apex Birding: go look for a lifer; find the lifer; capture a photo that I am 100% happy with.

Chunky large orangish kingfisher with an oversized head and a scarlet dagger of a bill. No other large kingfisher in its range has dark brown wings. Bright blue-green rump patch most obvious in flight. Restricted to coastal habitats such as mangroves and estuaries. Gives loud, fluid-sounding whistles as well as harsh grating rattles. (eBird)

--------------

We had just one day in which to find this beautiful kingfisher. A pre-breakfast boat ride around the mangroves resulted in two excellent sightings including this bird waiting patiently for his breakfast. A great start to the southern leg of our Thailand trip.

I am a lover of words and tragically beautiful things, poor timing and longing, and all things with soul, and I wonder if that means I am entirely broken, or if those are the things that have been keeping me whole.

Introduction

Gospel HymnThose Who Don’t Accept the Truth Aren’t Fit for Salvation

I

In hearing truth and word of life,

you may think only one word aligns

out of thousands of these words

with your thoughts and with the Bible, the Bible.

Seek in that 10,000th of words.

God advises humbleness,

to not be over-confident, to not exalt yourself.

Aren’t you unfit for God’s salvation

if you can’t accept truth clearly spoken?

Aren’t you one who lacks the fortune

to return before God at His throne,

to return before God at His throne?

II

Holding such meager reverence for God

will gain you greater light, greater light.

If you vet and ponder these words,

you’ll see if it’s truth, if it’s life, if it’s life.

Don’t blindly condemn God’s words

’cause of false Christs in the last days.

Do not blaspheme Holy Spirit

’cause you fear being led astray.

Aren’t you unfit for God’s salvation

if you can’t accept truth clearly spoken?

Aren’t you one who lacks the fortune

to return before God at His throne,

to return before God at His throne?

III

After much seeking and studying,

if you still think these words are not

the truth, the way, or God’s expressions,

you’ll be punished, your blessing’s lost, lost.

Aren’t you unfit for God’s salvation

if you can’t accept truth clearly spoken?

Aren’t you one who lacks the fortune

to return before God at His throne,

to return before God at His throne?

'Cute' photo revisited, renamed and unframed)

Much of one of my favorite hiking areas - the Gaasperplaspark - is now closed off for one of those summer music festivals. So I had to keep to the perimeters. No great hardship that. Lots of Queen Anne's Lace, various Grasses, Buttercups and everywhere the wafting sweet of a variety of Wild Roses. But insects were sorely lacking. I did spot this pretty Hoverfly gorging on Buttercup. If you look carefully you'll see just how large its 'snout' is; hence the Greek scientific name.

For all those who loves winter activities this winter has been a joy

There are lots of trails in the forest and in the evening some of them are being lighted

Moving our butts have been something Norwegians are maybe especially good at

We love our hikes, whether it is walking in the streets or in the forest

I think we have been born with the joy of moving, it is in our spine

And now that I have solved my big problems in life I love listening to music when I'm out walking, feeling the joy, the love for life, the love of moving in small steps, and of course some dancing moves, digging music, life is sure wonderful with all its mysteries

I totally forget time and space when I'm out with Aiko

Let me introduce this little man, the very important Magic-Santa Claus and his first-and-only Assistent. They work in a top secret place and have a very important task to perform.

Do you know how all those big presents fit into the tiny sacks, that all Santa's carry? Well, this little Magic-Santa Claus has great magical powers and transforms everything into very tiny and very light objects, so the Santa's don't have to carry too much weight either.

Once touched by a human the presents immediately change back into their normal proportions. This process is so quickly, not noticeable for the human eye.

I was able to visit them, but I don't remember how ............. Suddenly I was there and then the next moment back in my house again.

All that's left is this one and only photo of them... I think Magic-Santa Claus put a spell on me too ;-)

Well, those who follow me on Facebook already saw my post of this location here. It was a selfie made at sunrise with my buddy Olaf and Nadia. We were here on Sunday before last and it was such an enchanting place! Both Olaf and me we were ready to hike some time through forests or mountain slopes. But nothing of this happened. I must confess, I was never in my life so quick at such a beautiful waterfall without walking. We parked the car on the roadside in a forest, went down about 80 steps of a stairs … down a ravine … and voila … we were at the location! What … so quick? I couldn’t believe that such a place was so easy accessible! Well, more time for the preparation before sunrise he he he. And I must repeat … it’s always such a great experience and great fun to shoot with friends.

After some time Olaf and Nadia began to make some portrait shootings and I took the chance to explore more the grotto from the inside! And thanks to the light of the sunrise and the wonderful green tones of the water the grotto began to shimmer in yellow and green tones in a subtle way. It was like in an Emerald Cave! This was the perfect moment for me to make this shot here. I hope you like it!

Thank you for your time and interest in my photos, your visit is most appreciated :-)
