Nearly 200 members of the Maryland Army National Guard’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 29th Combat Aviation Brigade deploy from Edgewood Md., on Jan. 29, 2017, to provide full-spectrum aviation capabilities in support of ongoing operations in the Middle East. The unit will serve as the headquarters element for the 29th CAB, which will consist of more than 1,500 soldiers from multiple aviation units spanning more than a dozen states.

The brigade deployed units in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom, Kosovo, and Bosnia. It supported Hurricane Gustav relief operations in Louisiana and the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. The 29th CAB returned from supporting the end of Operation New Dawn in Iraq from 2011-2012. After Operation New Dawn, the brigade established the first aviation brigade operation, supporting Army Central Command in Kuwait, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. The unit had the Army’s only deck landing qualified attack battalion while it supported stability in the Arabian Gulf. (U.S. National Guard Photo by Sgt. 1st Class Thaddeus Harrington)

Lichfield attack in numbers during a Cooke Fields relegation battle with Newbold on Avon in rugby union's Midlands Premier league. After leading 17-3 and 20-6, Lichfield conceded two tries in four minutes to find themselves 20-21 behind by the 70th minute but then secured a 27-21 victory, and guaranteed survival with a game to spare, by crossing in the last minute of normal time. Defeat confirmed Newbold's relegation, along with Longton and Old Halesonians. Attendees at the Lichfield club's annual Ladies Day virtually doubled the crowd.

The Clyde was the centre of focus for naval assets supporting a massive military exercise on October 7 as Exercise Joint Warrior 142 begins in earnest.

The multinational exercise, which involves many NATO partners, is held twice a year in the spring and autumn, will involve 22 naval units and around 52 fixed wing aircraft.

Countries taking part in the maritime part of Joint Warrior are the UK, the United States, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Germany, Lithuania, Belgium, Poland, Estonia and Latvia, with the US Navyâs Commander Destroyer Squadron 26 assuming overall command of the task group.

Coordinating events will be around 150 additional military personnel, many of them Reservists, who will operate from HM Naval Base Clyde during the fortnight.

Exercise Joint Warrior provides all three UK Armed Services, and invited allied nations, with the opportunity to hone the vital skills needed to fight and win on todayâs battlefield.

Military skills practiced will include: anti-submarine warfare; anti-surface warfare; mine countermeasures; live firing; counter-smuggling and counter-insurgency; electronic warfare; and logistics support.

Over the two-week period, the exercise will develop from an initial period of military and political tension into simulated war fighting and potentially state on state hostilities. Key to Joint Warrior is the opportunity to practice and improve the tactics, techniques and procedures required of the Armed Forces.

Visiting Glasgow ahead of the exercise will be Danish vessels HDMS Peter Willemoes and HDMS Hvidbjoernen, while HM Naval Base Clyde will host 13 other ships from Spain, the Netherlands, the United States, Poland, Germany, Estonia and Latvia.

Liverpool Community Transport provided garaging and support for a number of community groups on Merseyside in the 1970s and 80s. The first buses groups had were ex-Merseyside, obtained very reasonably directly from the organisation. All four of the special Liverpool Airport service Royal Tiger half-decker buses went to LCT, and this was the first bus I drove - on the car park at Southport's Pleasureland. By this time Cantril Farm CA no longer owned an airporter of its own, but had bought this ex-Lytham PD2. SKB 168's preservation story is here:

mttrust.co.uk/#/xl171-skb-168/4546625768

I think its reference to the poor condition of the buses after their time with Liverpool Community Transport is rather unfair. The buses would all have gone for scrap immediately upon withdrawal had LCT not acquired them. LCT's job (like that of any transport company) was to move people. Once a bus failed an MoT, or had a major fault, they needed to be replaced quickly with another vehicle. These were vehicles already judged beyond economic repair by their operators - LCT at least gave them a period of further useful life, and some were saved thereby for preservation.

Earlier in my life I'd worked as a guard on Liverpool's buses, out of Gillmoss Garage, where buses for disposal were brought before taking their last ride along the East Lancashire Road to the Barnsley scrapyards. I obtained some mementoes from the scrappers - including a splendid enamel Liverpool coat of arms, as seen on SKB 168.

Recast is stealing in my eyes. Artists spend too much time and effort to create these wonderful works for someone to copy them!!

Shown here is a roller support (bearer) used to ensure that the inking rollers remain at .918 as they transverse the bed. Two are used, one on either side of the form, positioned near the ends of the rollers. The use of additional bearers was commonplace when furnishing reproduction proofs and Vandercook recommended them. The bearer mark was printed with the specimen.

These are 18-pt brass bar weld (full-face) rule obtained from Caslon Limited (UK). These run the full printable length of the bed of a Vandercook SP-15. They support here two Bunting Magnetic Cerface Flat Bases. Shown also is Resalite plastic furniture.

The supports are usually rounded at the surface edge ends to prevent roller nicking. To prevent wear on the supports the tympan is usually cut back.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. --- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District completed this $11 million Training Support Center in April 2011, which serves as a central location for all Army training aids, products and devices on Fort Bragg. Additionally, the 118,700 square-foot facility includes 12 training rooms where Soldiers use advanced video gaming technology for virtual weapons training. The sophisticated technology mimics real world battlefield scenarios and provides Soldiers with useful feedback for improving their accuracy and precision in weapons firing. With construction performed by North Carolina-based prime contractor Osborne Company, this project is the first warehouse facility of its type in the Army. It will serve as a prototype for similar facilities at other major Army installations worldwide. Pictured: Karl Vanstavoren. USACE photo by Tracy Robillard.

Members of the 4-401st Army Field Support Battalion supervised the beginning stages of construction of new maintenance facilities at Kandahar Air Base. The facilities are capable of supporting many missions including maintenance, storage, or living quarters. The new facilities are scheduled to be completed in the next few months and are being built with the help of Afghan workers. The space will provide critical infrastructure to support the logistical and sustainment needs of U.S. and coalition forces.

About the 401st:

The 401st Army field Support Brigade gives our Soldiers, Sailors, Airman, and Marines, the tools and resources necessary to complete the mission. If they shoot, drive it, fly it, wear it, eat it or communicate with it, the 401st helps to provide it. The brigade also assists coalition partners with many of their logistical and sustainment needs. The brigade will also handle to responsible disposition of equipment in Afghanistan as the mission here changes. The 401st is the single link between warfighters in the field and Army Materiel Command.

Washington DC, March 26, 2017. Over a thousand Palestinian rights activists and supporters rallied in front of the White House and marched to the Washington Convention Center to protest the American Israel Public Affairs Committee yearly meeting. Around a dozen activists affiliated with the Jewish youth peace group If Not Now were removed (but not arrested!) by police for blocking one of the many entrances to the AIPAC event. A handful of counter protesters affiliated with AIPAC and the Jewish Defense League were very well protected by DC Police as they taunted the much larger contingent of peace marchers. The event was largely peaceful but some isolated scuffles broke out late in the day.
