Montana Rail Link's once weekly local to Whitehall glides along the Jefferson River west of Sappington, MT. Turn the clock back about 60 years and you could have seen the North Coast Limited on the far side of the river passing the Olympian Hiawatha on the near side of the river. Thunbergia battiscombei is a weak-stemmed, perennial shrub rather than a climbing vine. To grow upright, it must be tied to a support or have taller plants to lean on for support. Blue Glory has bright green heart-shaped leaves, fuzzy greenish-white buds, and dark blue to purple trumpet-shaped flowers.

WWT Slimbridge.
The Glossy Ibis has become more familiar to birdwatchers following a series of mass arrivals in the 2000s. Increasing numbers of reports since then mirror an increase in the breeding population located in the south-west of Europe. There have been a number of breeding attempts here in the UK. It is likely that more regular breeding will be a feature in the future.
Climate change is thought to have supported the growth in visiting Glossy Ibis to Britain, with milder winters aiding their survival and enabling individuals to attempt breeding attempts the following year. (BTO).
Not as large as I thought it might be. About the size of a Curlew (which surprised me). This Glossy Ibis was in a field north of the entrance road into WWT Slimbridge. Not actually in the main reserve. I believe this is a juvenile bird, it didn’t seem to mind people at all.
By the time I got to it, the sun was already much higher in the sky than I would normally like and there was already a small crowd of people, birders and others watching it. It has been hanging around WWT Slimbridge for a few days now.
This shot is a little bit over-exposed where there’s some water on the beak and a little on the right leg, but I’m ok with that considering! For me this is a first, I’ve never seen one before!

Sometimes a little wing action is necessary to maintain control when casting for fish on Armand Bayou.
Today the helicopters involved in the firefighting effort were parked at the airport in a nice lineup. Cooler weather and some rain have brought relief. Fire now 68% contained.
Normally, there is very little activity at the airport, so when I saw them all 3 lined up like that, I literally stopped walking and said to Blanca "Wow!" and just had to go home and grab my camera for a shot!!

When I spotted these two women, a few metres away from me and walking in the opposite direction, I knew I only had a few seconds to adjust my exposure, my shutter, frame and release the shutter. I only had time for one shot. The photo was neither retouched nor cropped.
These are fairly rare moments, but for me they reflect that famous ‘instant’ that we look for behind attitudes, movements and situations.

A sunny afternoon with the typical Dutch white clouds against a blue sky on the dike of the island Marken. The group houses with their red roofs and green painted wooden walls, is called the Rozewerf. Marken, 2018.

Rozewerf is een buurtschap in de gemeente Waterland, in de Nederlandse provincie Noord-Holland.Het is één van de buurtschappen die het leef- en- woongemeenschap van het voormalig eiland Marken vormen. Rozewerf is gelegen net ten zuiden van Grotewerf. Andere spelling voor de buurtschap is Roze Werf en oudere spellingen zijn Rozenwerf en Rozen Werf.
Rozewerf is van oorsprong een terp, dat een werf wordt genoemd. Deze terp is niet vernoemd naar de kleur maar meer dan waarschijnlijk naar de persoon of familie Roos of Rozen, die de eigenaar of aanlegger is geweest van de werf. Net als de andere ten noorden van Rozewerf gelegen werven stammen de meeste huizen uit de 18e en 19e eeuw. In de loop van de tijd zijn deze wel flink verbouwd. Rozewerf kent net als Grotewerf nog het meest oorspronkelijke uiterlijk van deze oude bewoning waardoor het nog de karakteristieke en monumentale panden heeft. Rozewerf is een kleine buurtschap en de huizen staat ook erg dicht op elkaar, er is smalle doorgang door de buurtschap. Rozewerf ligt echt maar net aan de dijk die het beschermt van het water, ooit de Zuiderzee thans het Markermeer. Rozewerf lag van oorsprong niet aan het water maar in de loop der tijd is een deel van het eiland verzwolgen door de zee.
