American postcard by the American Postcard Co., Inc. NY.C., no. 3249. Photo: Roddy McDowell. Caption: Whoopi Goldberg, New York City, 1990.

American actress Whoopi Goldberg (1955) earned an Oscar nomination for her lead role in Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple (1985). She won an Oscar for her supporting role in Ghost (1990). Goldberg was also acclaimed for her work in Beyond Tara: The Extraordinary Life of Hattie McDaniel and the musical Sister Act (1992).

Whoopi Goldberg was born Caryn Elaine Johnson in 1955, in Manhattan, New York. Her mother, Emma (Harris), was a teacher and a nurse, and her father, Robert James Johnson, Jr., was a clergyman. She was inspired to become an actress by watching Nichelle Nichols' portrayal of Nyota Uhura in the original Star Trek (1966) series. She dropped out of high school and became addicted to heroin. She ended up marrying her drug counsellor, Alvin Martin. She cleaned up and later divorced him. She worked as a funeral parlour make-up artist, a bank teller, and a bricklayer while taking small parts on Broadway. In 1974, she moved to California and helped found the San Diego Repertory Company, where she used the name, Whoopi Cushion. She worked with improv groups, including Spontaneous Combustion, and developed her skills as a stand-up comedian. Goldberg had her breakthrough doing an HBO special and a one-woman show as Moms Mabley. Her first film role was in Citizen (William Farley, 1982), but her career gained momentum as Celie Johnson in Steven Spielberg's drama The Color Purple (1985), based on Alice Walker's novel. For her role as Celie, she received critical acclaim, an Oscar nomination and became a major star. In 1985, she also won a Grammy Award for 'Whoopi Goldberg: Direct From Broadway'. Her next films were, at best, marginal hits. She specialised in comedies like Jumpin' Jack Flash (Penny Marshall, 1986), Burglar (Hugh Wilson, 1987) and The Telephone (Rip Torn, 1988). Goldberg made her mark as a household name as Oda Mae Brown in the box office smash Ghost (Jerry Zucker, 1990) with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. She was the second African-American woman to receive an Academy Award. The first was Hattie McDaniel.

Whoopi Goldberg received another hit role in Sister Act (Emile Ardolino, 1992) as a nightclub singer, forced to take refuge from the mob in a convent. She turns the convent choir into a soulful chorus with a Motown repertoire. Her fish-out-of-water with some flash seemed to resonate with audiences and it was a box office smash. Goldberg starred in some highly publicised and moderately successful comedies of this time, including Soapdish (Michael Hoffman, 1991) with Sally Field, Made in America (Richard Benjamin, 1993) with Ted Danson and the sequel Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (Bill Duke, 1993). During her acting career, Goldberg played regularly in television series. This began with one-time guest roles in Moonlighting (1986) and A Different World. She had a regular spot in Baghdad Cafe (1990- 1991). From 1990 through 1992 she was a voice actress on the animated series Captain Planet and the Planeteers. Being a huge fan of the series, Goldberg asked Gene Roddenberry for a role in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1988-1993). She was given the role of Guinan, the head of the Ten-Forward lounge. Goldberg also appeared regularly in Liberty's Kids: Est. 1776 (2002-2003). As the late 1990s approached, Goldberg seemed to alternate between lead roles in straight comedies such as Eddie (Steve Rash, 1996) and The Associate (Donald Petrie, 1996) and supporting parts in more independent-minded films, such as How Stella Got Her Groove Back (Kevin Rodney Sullivan, 1998) with Angela Bassett and The Deep End of the Ocean (Ulu Grosbard, 1999) starring Michele Pfeiffer.

Since 1999, Whoopi Goldberg worked regularly as a film producer and screenwriter. Goldberg was one of 15 writers who provided 130 episodes of the TV series Strong Medicine (2000-2006). Goldberg was the first woman to host the Academy Awards on her own. She hosted them in 1994, 1996, 1999, and 2002. In 2002, she won a Tony Award as a producer for Best Musical, 'Thoroughly Modern Millie'. Goldberg herself returned to the stage in 2003, starring as blues singer Ma Rainey in the Broadway revival of August Wilson's historical drama 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom' at the Royale Theatre. She was also one of the show's producers. Since 2007, Goldberg has been on the panel every weekday on the American discussion program The View. In 2009, Goldberg won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host for her work on The View. In 2010, she could also be seen at London's Palladium Theatre as the Mother Superior in the stage version of 'Sister Act'. In the cinema, she starred in the Tyler Perry film For Colored Girls (2010), alongside Janet Jackson. The film received good reviews. The same year, she voiced Stretch in Pixar's Toy Story 3 (Lee Unkrich, 2010) which grossed $1.067 billion worldwide. Goldberg had a recurring role on the television series Glee (2012-2014) during its third and fourth seasons. She starred in the film Nobody's Fool (Tyler Perry, 2018), and reprised her role as Guinan during the second season of Star Trek: Picard (2022). Goldberg portrayed Mother Abagail, a 108-year-old woman in the miniseries The Stand (2020-2021) with Alexander Skarsgard, based on the novel by Stephen King. She appeared in a cameo as a mid-wife in the remake The Colour Purple (Blitz Bazawule, 2023) and in preproduction is Sister Act 3 with Tyler Perry producing. Whoopi Goldberg has been married three times. Her spouses were Alvin Martin (1973-1983), David Claessen (1986-1988) and Lyle Trachtenberg (1984-1985). She has one daughter, actress and producer Alex Martin, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Khon Kaen is the second largest of the north - eastern provinces ( Changwat ) of Thailand. Khon Kaen is 445 kilometres from Bangkok and has an area of about 10,886 square kilometres. Archeological study of pre-historic society and culture in the Northeast suggests that communities who depended on rice farming, animal raising and pottery making for their subsistence, lived and travelled in this province 2,500 to 5,000 years ago. The discovery of bronze and rice tools in Khon Kaen and other parts of the northeast, is important evidence to support the theory that communities were well established here before contact with outside civilizations such as the Chinese and Indian. The discovery of dinosaur remains in 1983 at Amphur Phu Wiang was another exciting development that confirms this provinces's importance in the archeological study of Issan’s ancient heritage. Chum Phae is a district ( Amphoe ) of Khon Kaen Province, North Eastern Thailand. The area was occupied since prehistoric times, hence you will see prehistoric models of Dinosaurs about the city. The ruins of the town Non Mueang date from the Dvaravati times. The establishment of the district was announced in the royal gazette issued on August 3rd 1943, originally comprising the Tambon Chum Phae, Si Suk, Non Han and Khua Riang, which were later divided into ten tambon. In 1965 the northeast of the district was split off to form Si Chomphu district, in 1981 the west of the district formed the district Phu Pha Man.

ORLANDO, Fla. - Four Soldiers from the 143d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) rolled onto the green grass at Orlando’s Blue Jacket Park in two Humvees to support hundreds of racers, organizers, veterans and volunteers participating in the 9th Annual Wounded Warfighter Lone Sailor 5K/10K April 14, 2018.

Hosted by the Central Florida Council of the United States Navy League, the race featured more than 600 runners, walkers and rollers who, together with more than a dozen corporate sponsors and non-profit partners, raised approximately $54,000 for the Camaraderie Foundation.

Dedicated to saving lives, families and marriages for service members and veterans, the Camaraderie Foundation offers counseling programs designed to heal the invisible wounds of war.

The race took place in conjunction with a dedication ceremony of the Blue Jacket Recruit, a statue of a female recruit standing for inspection on her day of graduation from Navy Boot Camp. Designed by J. Don Reynolds, a world renowned sculptor who once served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown, the heroic scale statue commemorates 188,000 women who began their naval careers at Orlando Recruit Training Center from 1968-1994. The statue stands next a Lone Sailor statue that signifies Central Florida’s rich military heritage and America’s gender integration in its armed forces.

The ceremony featured several distinguished guests to include Carla Hoskins, a graduate of Orlando RTC, Jennifer Thompson, vice mayor of Orange County, and Stephanie Murphy, U.S. congresswoman for Florida’s 7th District. The 143d ESC Soldiers joined them and hundreds others in attendance in expressing their respect for more than 650,000 men and women who marched on this hallowed ground.

Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul and State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker joins the NYS American Academy of Pediatrics and over 100 anti-vaping advocates at the State Capitol to rally support for the Governor's campaign to ban all flavored nicotine vaping products, including menthol flavors, and to restrict vaping advertisements aimed at youth.

The legislation, proposed by the Governor as part of this year's budget, would also authorize the State Department of Health to regulate the sale of vaping product carrier oils deemed to be a public health risk and prohibit the online, phone and mail order sale of e-cigarettes. Only registered retailers would be allowed to purchase e-cigarettes using those methods. The campaign also includes a new hashtag - #NoVapeNY - as well as a petition where New Yorkers can show their support for the legislation and a website - ny.gov/endvaping - with more information about the Governor's proposals.

These proposals build on the Governor's previous actions to protect New Yorkers from the dangers of vaping and cigarette smoking. In 2017, the Governor expanded the Clean Indoor Air Act to prohibit e-cigarette use in nearly every workplace setting to protect workers and the public from harmful secondhand tobacco smoke and vaping aerosols. In 2019, e-liquid retailers were required to register with the Department of Taxation and Finance, and the Governor signed legislation to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco and electronic cigarette products from 18 to 21 - the law went into effect on November 13, 2019.

From 2014 to 2018 youth use of e-cigarettes has increased by 160 percent. Nearly 40 percent of 12th grade students and 27 percent of all high school students are now using e-cigarettes. Flavored nicotine e-liquids are the principal marketing strategy of the vaping industry. One in five youth believe that nicotine e-cigarettes are both harmless and not addictive. This is a photograph from the seventh annual Donadea 50KM Ultramarathon which was held in Donadea Forest, Donadea, Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Saturday 13th February 2016 at 10:00. The race was also an International Association of Ultrarunners Silver Label Event and the Athletics Association of Ireland (AAI) National 50KM Championships. The race completes 10 loops of a very well known 5KM trail around the circumference of the forest. Most of this trail is in very good condition with good conditions underfoot for the entire 5KM stretch. The start-finish area is located close to the coffee shop area in the center of the park beside the now ruined and abandoned Donadea Castle. This year, like all previous events, was a fantastic event with great support around the course for the athletes. However the structure of the course with the repeated loops makes a great atmosphere for the runners themselves with great camaraderie being shown amongst all of the competitors. This is one of the most popular 50KM races in Ireland. A garmin GPS link is available here [connect.garmin.com/activity/70206204]

Want to use this photograph or share it? Please read/scroll down a little further to find out how - it's very easy!

Where is Donadea?. Donadea Forest Park is situated in rural north Kildare and is approximately 640 acres in size. The amenities at the forest include good walking trails, a diversity of natural habitats, a walled stream, a large natural lake, and the ruins of Donadea castle. The Park is a designated National Heritage Area. The basic designation for wildlife is the Natural Heritage Area (NHA). This is an area considered important for the habitats present or which holds species of plants and animals whose habitat needs protection. It is a special occasion to allow the 50KM to be held in this environment.

I want to download these pictures to my computer or device?

You can download this photographic image here directly to your computer or device. This version is the low resolution web-quality image. How to download will vary slight from device to device and from browser to browser. Have a look for a down-arrow symbol or the link to 'View/Download' all sizes. When you click on either of these you will be presented with the option to download the image. Remember just doing a right-click and "save target as" will not work on Flickr.

I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?

If you just need these photographs for online usage then they can be used directly once you respect their Creative Commons license and provide a link back to our Flickr set if you use them. For offline usage and printing all of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

The Zacuto Lightweight Support System (LWS) comes with Z-Release for all professional 2/3”, 1/2" sized cameras as well as prosumer cameras such as the JVC GY-HD100/200/250 or the Canon XL-H1. Zacuto LWS gives you the ability to mount rods to the front of your camera so that you can attach matte boxes and follow focus units. To be used with a wedge style tripod plate.

But Zacuto has taken this several steps further. This is the first universal lightweight support plate to work with all Sony, Panasonic, Canon and JVC cameras that use the wedge style tripod plate. That means that one plate can be used for all cameras. When you get a new camera you can still use the Z-LWS.

The Lightweight Support System has unique features that have never been seen in lightweight support plates such as incorporating two Z-Release mounts into the plate. These mounts allow you to be able to attach any Z-Release equipped products directly to your Z-LWS plate. This frees the camera from having to mount equipment on it. Also, with the flip of a Z-Release lever your equipment is released allowing you to go handheld in seconds. No more unscrewing monitors for a simple location move. Mount items like Zacuto wireless plates, Zamerican articulating arms or any other arms retrofitted with Z-Release, on-board monitors, hard drives and more. Virtually anything can be mounted to this style of camera allowing you to completely customize your setup, similar to the versatility seen in Zacuto’s innovative prosumer baseplate line. Z-LWS package includes, LWS plate, two 8" front rods and side mounted double Z-Release mount.

In this shot they are posed in front of the cardboard backing that formed the inner box of the dolls' packaging.

First look at the Limited Edition Anna and Elsa 17'' Dolls, that I purchased from the Disney Store on the release day, November 20, 2013. The dolls are LE 2500, and cost $99.95 each. They will be photographed boxed, during deboxing, and fully deboxed. They will also be posed with other comparable dolls, especially the Harrods LE 100 Anna and Elsa dolls.

Individual reviews and product information follow.

Review of Anna LE 2500 17'' Doll

She is wearing her coronation gown, and black flat heeled shoes, that are the same design as the Harrods LE 100 Anna doll. But there are far fewer jewels in her gown, and she is missing the leggings and bloomers of the Harrods doll. However, her slip and petticoat appear to be identical to the Harrods version. Her dress and petticoat are stiff enough that she can free stand, although not very stably. She is wearing a necklace, with the pendant stuck to her chest, which is identical to the Harrods doll's necklace.

She has red orange hair that is pulled back, and has a large flat braid behind long curly bangs, and a spiraling braid behind her head, with a series of thin curly pony tails hanging from her head, one of which is her white streak. Intertwined with the pony tails is a set of thin green satin ribbons. The hair do is not quite as intricate as on the Harrods doll, who has two very thin braids in addition to the pony tails, and more satin ribbons. She almost perfectly formed long curving rooted eyelashes, that are even better looking than the ones on the Harrods Anna. She has a beautiful round face with very large blue green eyes, small pointy nose, thin bright pink lips in a slight smirk, and rouge on upper cheeks and the front of her chin, representing her skin being chilled by cold weather. She has freckles all over her face, but unlike the Harrods doll, none on her neck, shoulders, chest or upper back.

She is a very beautiful doll, with a splendid outfit, that is fit for royalty. She is also very movie accurate, and well worth her price. Although she is not as exotic as her sister, the Snow Queen Elsa, Anna has an adorable, warm expression on her face, and is very elegant in her own right.

Review of Elsa LE 2500 17'' Doll

Elsa is wearing her Snow Queen outfit, that is similar in design to the that of the Harrods LE 100 Elsa doll, but is less detailed. The light blue green satin inner dress is essentially the same in both dolls, but the Harrods dolls has a few more round crystals just below the bodice. The front of the bodice is covered in rectangular crystals representing icicles. The skirt has a slit for the legs and has a diminishing density of round clear rhinestones closer to the hemline. The attached oversized cape (or gown overlay) is made of double layered organza, with dark blue embroidery and jewels. It is less full and much less detailed than the Harrods cape. In particular, the icicle and snowflake embroidered patterns with the accompanying jewels are only near the edges of the cape, and there are no jewels in the area between the icicles and the snowflakes. Instead, there is a covering of clear hexagonal glitter. Fortunately, the glitter is glued very securely to the cape is sheds very little. There are also fewer blue jewels in her sheer long sleeves than on the Harrods doll.

Her high heeled blue shoes are same snowflake design as the Harrods, except that the color is a plainer blue, without the iridescence or silver paint making it look metallic. Like the Harrods Elsa, she has fixed angled feet, so she looks elegant in her high heels. Other than that, she has the same articulation as the most current Disney Store 17'' Limited Edition Princess dolls. She has ball jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists and hips. Her knees are external hinge joints. She can free stand with the help of her gown, but only with great difficultly, and is very unstable in that pose, the same as with the Harrods doll. Therefore almost all the photos of her standing have her supported by the included doll stand.

She has light blonde hair that is formed into long braids. There are long curvy bangs that are combed back and heavily gelled to form a sort of crown over her head. There is a solitary curly bang on the left side of her head. She long curving rooted eyelashes, that are not as curvy or well formed as the Harrods Elsa (or the LE 2500 Anna). There are two snowflake jeweled ornaments that are sewn to her braid. The Harrods Elsa has a third snowflake on the side of her head. She has a beautiful angular face with an elfin appearance. She as large blue eyes, small pointy nose, thin deep red lips in a slight closed mouth smile, and rouge on upper cheeks. She has a few freckles on her upper cheeks, in an identical pattern to the Harrods Elsa. Her skin is a very pale purplish pink, that is smooth and dull in appearance. She is slightly paler than the Harrods doll, who has shiny pearly textured skin.

She is a very beautiful doll, with an exotic face and a commanding presence. She has a dramatic outfit that is fit for royalty. She is also very movie accurate, and well worth her price.
