This house was built in 1898 in Flateyri, North-Western Iceland. It was a general store at first but soon it began selling books as well. The children of the village would flock to the store every time a new shipment of comics or toys arrived.
The store management stayed in the same family for nearly 100 years but in 2003 Minjasjóður Önundarfjarðar took over and runs it as an interactive museum of sorts during the summertime.
The store's interior is still original and it's primary merchandise today is used books. You buy your literature there by weight, 1.000 kr. per 1 kg (~2 pounds). They also sell vintage candy and have a large collection of vintage dolls on display.
I am not a Wal-Mart fan by any means, but here in the small town I live in they are the only game in town when it's 4:00AM and you can't sleep. Went to buy some banannas and some veggie burgers. I was the only customer in the store.
A drug store sign in Azuchi... As the son of a pharmacist, I think this is hilarious. Just pop those pills! Never seen anyone do it quite like that, but whatever works.
This photo will be featured in a book about drug stores around the world... I don't know the title yet, but it will be published in 2009. It also appears in the January 2009 edition of the Dutch medical journal Nederlands Tijdschift voor Geneeskunde, page 108. The accompanying article is here.

A slightly farther view of the Apple store at night. You can see the crowds inside more clearly here. The crowd was probably a tad unusual due to the large number of mainland tourists in HK due to the Chinese New Year holidays. There were times I feared the island would sink! (so to speak). A couple of night shots of the Homebase store at Catford, SE London. Seeing it lit up like this, it reminded me a little of the Crystal Palace, which is a way of saying I thought it looked good.
Constructed in (IIRC) the 1980's it is now apparently a Listed Building
(Prior to the site being acquired by Homebase, the pond - which is still there - and land had been a pleasure gardens with a funfair and boating lake known locally as Peter Pan's Pool.

A couple of years ago, plans were announced for the improvement of some of the unused parts of the site, to return it to public open space, and bring back the JM Barrie connection by naming it as Peter Pan's Park.)

Week 30 - Fill the Frame - at Compositionally Challenged

Toledo, Washington, has a population of 700. There is not enough business to support an auto parts store or a feed store or a hardware store. One enterprising couple is doing their best to make a go of this store. They also serve espresso, soft serve ice cream, and burgers. And they have gas pumps, a tow truck, and a small auto repair shop around back.

This magnificent store was located on the Promenade just north of Talbot Square opposite the cenotaph. Sadly it was knocked in the 1970’s to make way for a cinema complex.
This view is looking east from near the Promenade entrance towards the entrance at the rear of the store on The Strand.
I remember going in to this store on many occasions with my Mum. It’s a great pity that there is no longer a high quality Booths grocery store in Blackpool town centre, or indeed in Preston town centre.

Okay so I went to the Lego store hoping to pick up the June calender. But would you guess what? They didn't have any!!! So I had to settle for the July, which is one of the coolest ones I own. I really like the Harry Potter theme with this. Oh and it's over sized again. Another good thing!
Early photo of the front of a toy store. There are lots of fun toys in this photo. The most interesting to me are the baseball cards in strips on the upper right side. And of course the sign that says toys will make your child happy. Yah right for about 10 minutes or until the next time you walk past another toy store. I scanned this extra large so you can see the details. You can see some American flags on the left side as well as some comic books. This image was purchased out of Germany.
In bright sunlight, there are many interesting shadows inside the store, including here in the rear section.
