The Apple Store in SoHo, New York City renovates an old building to create a heaven of Apple Products and another characteristic glass staircase. The building makes less of a statement than the store on Fifth Avenue and meshes well with the bustling streetscape.

The Hershey Store in Times Square looks very impressive from the outside, but once you go in, it's very disappointing. Although it looks very large, the store itself is quite small and feels very cramped. Not very much seems to be sold here either. Most of what they have are candy bars and bags of chocolates that you can buy almost anywhere else for less then half what is being charged here.
I feel bad about that, since I am a very big fan of both Hershey foods and their theme park. I really wanted to like this place. I think there is a lot of potential here if Hershey would put a bit more work and creativity into this store.

This is my favorite store on busy Main Street in Hendersonville. Usually filled with tourists. All kinds of wonderful shops in a lovely setting.
We have Bakeries (you can't even call the places in WalMart and other stores, Bakeries)form time to time, but if you go inside the stores are usually empty with just someone to take your birthday cake order or maybe make you a sandwich. This is like the places I remember from the Northeast where it was a visual and sensual treat just to go into the doors. The only thing lacking is that the fragrance is not so strong because they don't do the baking on premises.

I've noted several times about artistic touches that are visible throughout Vietnam. We finally visited to an actual art store. This store was huge, with an amazing array of high-end objects d'art that reflected fine workmanship and aesthetics.
This store clearly catered to tourists, and the prices were much higher than what you see on the streets that peddle souvenirs. But the quality was also far superior. Some of the big-ticket items like this humongous had sculpture ran into tens of thousands of US dollars.
I was hoping to take many more photos of the items on display, but one of the store staff asked me very politely to not take any photos, so this was the last one. Otherwise, I could have done a mini series just on this store!

Photo of CVS Pharmacy and 99 Cents Only Store which is located to the right of the former SAFEWAY Supermarekt. Former SAFEWAY SUPERMARKET, converted to VONS in 1988 when VONS took over SAFEWAY SUPERMARKETS. VONS Supermarkets eventually closed this store and it became a Pick N Save, which the parent company later changed its Big Lots. This Big Lots location is now closed as indicated by the sign in the window. The lease for this former Big Lots has expired, and the store will be converting back to a supermarket. Whole Food Supermarket is taking over the Big Lots site as well as taking over the CVS Pharmacy next Store (former Savon Drug Store). The CVS is preparing to move and take over another location on the property, a former Kinney Shoe Store, that was converted by its parent company to a Foot Locker, which later closed. While Maas Brothers claimed to be Tampa's store, Burdines claimed to be "the Florida store;" Macy's doesn't try to pretend to be anything.
West Shore Plaza opened in 1967 as the Bay Area's first air-conditioned, indoor shopping mall. The original mall was a typical barbell-type mall with anchors Maas Brothers and JCPenney on either end and Woolworth and Food Faire as junior anchors. Situated at the north end of the South Tampa neighborhood, the mall was an instant favorite among Tampa's middle class, even drawing people from Pinellas County due to its proximity to the Tampa end of two of the three bay bridges.
The mall received its first update in 1973 when Food Faire was demolished and a new wing and a third anchor, Robinson'sd, was added, giving the mall an L shape. By the 1980s, West Shore was losing business to newer suburban shopping malls, especially the nearby two-level Tampa Bay Center. Robinson's was replaced by Maison Blanche in 1987, which was replaced by Dillard's in 1990. Tampa's beloved Maas Brothers was converted to Burdines in 1991. In 1999, with the construction of International Plaza one mile to the north, the mall radically reinvented itself, adding Saks Fifth Avenue as a fourth anchor, a fourteen-screen AMC theater, parking garages, a new corridor, and a number of upscale restaurants. Dillard's relocated to International in 2001 and Sears took over the spot in 2002, effectively killing off the remains of Tampa Bay Center. Burdines converted to Macy's in 2005.

Carolina Southern stored most of their units at the depot in Chadbourn, NC after the owner of the line suspended operations in August 2011 after the FRA found a number of defects on a number of bridges.

I was driving down the back roads of New Jersey headed for Pennsylvania. I knew where I was headed and the map gave me an idea of the roads. I was taking the long way to give my senses a treat. Exploration of the continent I reasoned. Windows rolled down the air has that special flavor of earth, trees, and leaves. A vegetation stew BossBob once called it. Smells I don’t get in the city.
It was nearing dusk when suddenly a rumble in my belly reminded me I hadn’t eaten dinner. Didn’t have any food in the car and as my Dad would say, “The sidewalks roll up early around here.” I had better start thinking about what I was going to do. That’s when I discovered Stillwater. It’s a 3 store town and this one building caught my eye. Part General Store and part Post Office I just couldn’t resist. I went in as they were closing up and ordered a sandwich. Nothing special. I really just wanted to rock my heals on the wooden floor, slam the screen door and pretend to be someone else.
GUM, Glavnyi Universalnyi Magazin; literally "main universal store") is the name of the main department store in many cities of the former Soviet Union, known as State Department Store during Soviet times. It is currently a shopping mall. Prior to the 1920s, the location was known as the Upper Trading Rows.
With the façade extending for 794 ft (242 m) along the eastern side of Red Square, the Upper Trading Rows were built between 1890 and 1893 by Alexander Pomerantsev (responsible for architecture) and Vladimir Shukhov (responsible for engineering). The trapezoidal building features an interesting combination of elements of Russian medieval architecture and a steel framework and glass roof, a similar style to the great 19th-century railway stations of London. William Craft Brumfield described the GUM building as "a tribute both to Shukhov's design and to the technical proficiency of Russian architecture toward the end of the 19th century".[1]
The glass-roofed design made the building unique at the time of construction. The roof, the diameter of which is 46 ft (14 m), looks light, but it is a firm construction made of more than 50,000 metal pods (about 819 short tons, capable of supporting snowfall accumulation. Illumination is provided by huge arched skylights of iron and glass, each weighing some 820 short tons and containing in excess of 20,000 panes of glass. The facade is divided into several horizontal tiers, lined with red Finnish granite, Tarusa marble, and limestone. Each arcade is on three levels, linked by walkways of reinforced concrete.
Catherine II of Russia commissioned Giacomo Quarenghi, a Neoclassical architect from Italy, to design a huge trade center along the east side of Red Square. The existing structure was built to replace the previous trading rows that had been designed by Joseph Bove after the 1812 Fire of Moscow.[2]
By the time of the Russian Revolution of 1917, the building contained some 1,200 stores. After the Revolution, the GUM was nationalised. GUM's stores were used to further Bolshevik goals of rebuilding private enterprise along socialist lines and "democratizing consumption for workers and peasants nationwide". In the end, GUM's efforts to build communism through consumerism were unsuccessful.
GUM continued to be used as a department store until Joseph Stalin converted it into office space in 1928 for the committee in charge of his first Five Year Plan.[2] After the suicide of Stalin's wife Nadezhda in 1932, the GUM was used briefly to display her body.[4]
After reopening as a department store in 1953, the GUM became one of the few stores in the Soviet Union that did not have shortages of consumer goods, and the queues of shoppers were long, often extending entirely across Red Square.[5]
At the end of the Soviet era, GUM was partially, then fully privatized, and it has had a number of owners. As a private shopping mall, it was renamed in such a fashion that it could maintain its old abbreviation and thus still be called GUM. However, the first word Gosudarstvennyi ('state') has been replaced with Glavnyi ('main'), so that GUM is now an abbreviation for "Main Universal Store".Now many of the stores feature fashionable brand names familiar in the West; locals refer to these as the "exhibitions of prices", the joke being that no one could afford actually to buy any of the items displayed.
