After seeing the juvenile red fox with prey yesterday, I realized that an adult was nearby....even though the light was contrasty, you gotta try to get the shot when it is available :)
Red mosaic, the latest addition to my set of Flickr mosaics. I loved this one. So many great reds to choose from. If you see your image here, please tag it.

A red-wing blackbird perched among grasses
The red-wing blackbird (and the very similar tri-color blackbird) are among those birds that are found all over the place here in California. I've encountered them in agricultural areas and on trails in coastal hills parks, in huge groups or as solitary individuals. They often perch, and they aren't too hard to photograph with a long lens, though their very dark feathers can provide some exposure challenges. When they take to the air they often move quickly and can be hard to track.
The red patches are not always visible. In fact, when I first saw this individual I did not see them. But the bird seemed content to remain in one spot for a while, so I settled in with the bird in the viewfinder and waited. Typically the first thing I'll do is to try to grab an initial photograph that is at least usable. But they I wait and watch for something beyond that, something that might show the animal in a special way. As I watched this bird, all of a sudden it puffed out its feathers and exposed those brilliant red patches for a few seconds.

Red-necked Phalarope (Phalaropus lobatus) female feeding in the alkaline waters of Chaplin Lake in southern Saskatchewan on the Trans-Canada Highway between Moose Jaw and Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Prey is abundant in the shallow waters and thousands of shorebirds annually stage there in the spring to build body reserves for their northward migration and to a lesser extent in the fall migration period.
Over 30 species of shorebirds have been observed on the lake complex and most of the resident prairie shorebird species nest on or near the lake.
Access is very limited but there is a local tourism facility which focuses on the lake and its importance to shorebirds.

Yesterday was such a beautiful day I spent time working in the garden. I noticed lots of butterflies, so I went indoors to get my camera and my macro lens. I started taking some shots of the butterflies, after taking a few I sat back and watched how many was going to land on the flowers and I counted over 100.
There was many Red Admirals a few large whites, as well as Small Tortoiseshell, Comma Gatekeeper and Peacocks.
It's a shame it was not the "Big Butterfly Count" never mind there is always next year.

Roxborough State Park is a Colorado state park located in Douglas County. The park is southwest of Denver, about 15 miles south of the city of Littleton. Spectacular red sandstone formations (identified by geologists as belonging to the Fountain Formation) can be found in the park. Other examples of Fountain Formation geology in Colorado include Garden of the Gods, Red Rocks Park, and the Flatirons. (Wikipedia)
What better way to present your legs at Chrismas than with red silky stockings? These are my favorite hold-ups; I have them in various colors and wear them all the time. Unlike other stockings they are pretty strong, yet they feel wonderfully soft and smooth and look great with those wide lacy stocking tops.
Quan la quantitat regna per sobre la qualitat.

When quantity reigns over quality.
The Spanish term 'vino peleón' (which colud be translated to fighter or quarrelsome wine) refers to the rough tasting, low qualilty cheap wine usually sold in large quantities.
Thanks, EudaldCJ for the title!
