Red-bellied woodpeckers made a nest about 8 meters up in one of our dead ash trees. In the past, they have always hollowed out live sections of Chinkapin oaks for their nest cavities in our woods. The little woodpecker is so loud with his begging calls that I thought he would have brought himself to the attention of raccoons and fox snakes. I wrapped some sheet aluminum around the trunk of the tree so they won't be able to climb up and make a meal of him. Maybe they'll find some starlings and house sparrows instead.
A first Red Grouse for my photostream.
Captured much to the amusement of my wife - who watched in tears of laughter as I crawled on my belly through the long grass in order to get the shot.
Many thanks to my Flickr friend Mark Bowen www.flickr.com/photos/mozboz1/ for suggesting this and other locations in the area for local wildlife.
Genovesa Island, Galapagos
A stunning bird with its bright red bill and tail streamers. The Latin name derives from the legend of Phaeton, son of Helios (the sun god of Greek mythology) who nearly set the earth on fire by driving his chariot too close to the sun.
The weekend wasn't a total waste of time, I did manage to see some lovely Red Kites and take one or two pictures before I got ill!
Loving my 'Reds' at the moment......Just happy to see them at last! I toyed with the idea of putting up the 'feeder' shots but decided against it for the time being. I hope you all like this shot? It was taken when I first got to the site and was still rather dark and the little blighter wouldn't stay still. My next ones to be posted are portraits. Taken with my Nikon D70.
I really love the looks of the White Ibis in breeding colors. The beak, feet & face are such bold colors!
I have always had a thing for the restyled Dodge Daytona v2.0, especially the '88 Pacifica and most iterations of the Shelby Z.
I remember seeing these at the Detroit Auto Show for the first time as a 7th-Grader. I liked the first Daytona, but the restyle looked so much better to my eyes that I thought Chrysler had given the entire car a complete redesign.
To me, this represents some of the best 1980's American design. I'd drive one.
"An American Revolution," indeed.
Wrigleyville, Chicago, Illinois.

Another bird from yesterday's walk - quite a bit bigger than the Willie Wagtail.
It has a very loud raucous bird call.
Disillusionment of Ten O'Clock
The houses are haunted
By white night-gowns.
None are green,
Or purple with green rings,
Or green with yellow rings,
Or yellow with blue rings.
None of them are strange,
With socks of lace
And beaded ceintures.
People are not going
To dream of baboons and periwinkles.
Only, here and there, an old sailor,
Drunk and asleep in his boots,
Catches tigers
In red weather.

"Once upon a time there was a dear little girl who was loved by everyone who looked at her, but most of all by her grandmother, and there was nothing that she would not have given to the child. Once she gave her a little riding hood of red velvet, which suited her so well that she would never wear anything else; so she was always called 'Little Red Riding Hood....'" www.eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/UBooks/LittRed.shtml
