something new for my garden, a red rose.

Red Tailed Hawk, Shoreline Park, Mountain View, California. I watched this hawk try and catch prey nearly a dozen times, each time it came up empty. I don't recall ever seeing a hawk spend so much time on the ground. On this occasion, it had tried to catch a squirrel, then took off over a flock of Coots, finally landing in this dark area underneath some trees. At first it behaved as if it had something, but then flew off to perch and wait for another chance.
I took this recently in Freshfield Red Squirrel Sanctuary. I find the wildlife shots really tricky, especiall in low light when shooting fast moving creatures! Gave this my best shot but starting to think about an upgrade from the CSC to a full frame; bigger sensor and much better in low light. Still, this turned out OK providing it is not blown up too much and all the noise is revealed.

Had amazingly close views of this young Red Footed Falcon in Aberdeen today. A lifer for me, and in the sunshine too (it clouded over and the light deteriorated greatly not long after we got these).
This is mainly the Starfire from Jokerland except the hair which is from Poison Ivy from the lego batman movie. I changed the hair because I didn't find it accurate enough to her appearance in Red Hood and the Outlaws. Even though the Poison Ivy hair has additional printing (and molding) it looks so good it doesn't bother me.
Fun and games watching the cheeky squirrels on Brownsea Island. A big thank you to the people who view or comment on my photos and also add them as favourites.
This has been a good year for the Red Spotted Purples in my area. This series are all from a single outing following a dry streambed at Broughtons Wildlife Education Area on 24 Aug 2018. Dry or damp stream beds seem to be a favorite habitat for many late summer butterflies and the Red Spotted Purples definitely enjoy this habitat. The photos are both natural light and flash fill. You may note that on a butterfly like these with wings that tend to polarize light depending on your viewing angle that the flash produces different colors than the natural light view and i have included both.
The male red crossbill I found in the Selway Meadows barn. Every spring when I walk in the barn I have to duck when a pair of crossbills goes tearing out of it.
Dad and I will start our pasture maintenance and monitoring for this year. This means I will be away from my computer Monday through Friday for the next three weeks. Hopefully I will have lots of photos to share on the weekends. Also hopefully I won’t have a crossbill imbedded in my forehead.
