He is a frequent visitor to our back yard. A beautiful bird.

A red-tailed hawk taking a peek at me as it flies off. I was taking pictures of the hawk sitting on the top of a small dead tree when a squawking blue jay ran it off. I was excited to be able to get close to an adult red-tail as normally they fly off as soon as they see me, long before I'm close enough to get a shot.

‘A THOUGHTFUL FORAGE.’

An image made at the edge of a grazing marsh field on a glorious late winter’s day. A cloudless blue sky and hot, sunny weather rivalled any conditions you could expect on the finest June day but working from a pop-up hide became increasingly uncomfortable. I didn’t expect to shed so many layers of clothing and utilise every ventilation zip the hide had ... in February!

Encounters like this one made all of my discomfort worthwhile though :-)

This young Red Squirrel decides to check it is "All clear" before making a dash for the hazelnuts !

I just noticed I never uploaded this one here. This is from last winter's heavy rains and flooding.

I know it's never nice to have floods but I try to look at the positive - especially if it's only flooding empty fields - and capture these unique landscapes which normally do not exist.

Red Rose

"Cute as a button" little Red was around this morning enjoying the sunshine and some black oil sunflower seeds. I knew he was there because there was a lot of racket outside on my deck! "Chip! chip!" :)

A rarely-seen red-headed woodpecker (Melanerpes erythrocephalus) at my wife's backyard feeder. Since moving to Kentucky in 2016, we have seen just three of these birds and we were astonished to see one come so close to the house. It came back several times over a period of about three days, but we have not seen it again since.

This was a real quick capture. I was driving and I turned a corner and spotted this Red-tailed Hawk at eye level. Like most Red-tailed Hawks it did not like being eye-balled and fled.

This rose is just gorgeous to me! I hope that you all have a super weekend!

Thanks for dropping by, have a wonderful day
