Took trip to the Zoo yesterday and looked up to see this red panda overhead. The red panda is a vulnerable species.

Came across this Red Deer Prickett this morning on a walk over Chasewater.

Locomotive Services Limited's Class 87, 87002 "Royal Sovereign" (and its crew!) prepare to work the ECS back to Crewe after the two-day InterCity "The Clansman" railtour.

The ECS move was 5Z43 22:17 Euston to Crewe Holding Sidings, with the veteran AL7 having earlier propelled 1Z42 11:00 Inverness to Euston south from Mossend Yard.

With the Red Star parcels sign in the background, the only thing giving it away this isn't the 1980s or 1990s is the Avanti West Coast Class 390 Pendolino, 390009 in the background. It had arrived on 1B83 2030 Birmingham New Street to London Euston and was waiting to form the ECS move back to the depot as 5B83 2251 London Euston to Wembley Inter City Depot.

Had amazingly close views of this young Red Footed Falcon in Aberdeen today. A lifer for me, and in the sunshine too (it clouded over and the light deteriorated greatly not long after we got these).

Red Squirrel - Garsdale, Cumbria.

The male red crossbill I found in the Selway Meadows barn. Every spring when I walk in the barn I have to duck when a pair of crossbills goes tearing out of it.

Dad and I will start our pasture maintenance and monitoring for this year. This means I will be away from my computer Monday through Friday for the next three weeks. Hopefully I will have lots of photos to share on the weekends. Also hopefully I won’t have a crossbill imbedded in my forehead.

Quite a few foxes around Pagosa Springs, CO. Can usually find one or two if we get out early or late.

Our beautiful world, pass it on.

Red Lacewing(Cethosia biblis) butterfly. This is one of the rarest butterflies which look more colorful and impressive when viewed from the rear. That is to say, the full opened wings are not that impressive in comparison. Here it is, captured from three different angles.

TGIF and it is time to relax and "TAKE IT EASY" and hum along.

Have a lovely and enjoyable weekend everyone

Wild Red deer stags on the Peak District moors. Most stags (but not yet all) have now shed their old antlers and the new ones are now developing.

I used my 500mm lens because I like the effect, but you don't need a lens like that... see below.... sorry Nigel I couldn't resist!

Call me slow, but I've only just realised you can comment on a picture without actually opening it......... definitely a backwards step IMO... I had been wondering how faves and comments appeared without any views! Now they've changed the way views are counted as well, apparently guessing that we wanted to see something, though it may have just been one of many pictures on a page in a group etc. Definitely dodgy......And those people doing that won't even see that I've written this, or any other explanation that goes with a picture, so they won't even know that I've explained that this is NOT A WILD SQUIRREL.

Many of my pictures are available to buy as prints, canvasses or acrylics at:

Why are loons eyes red? The red is caused by a pigment in the retina that filters light when loons dive beneath the waters surface and allows for sight.

From yesterday’s morning session. That red eye is amazing. It was close to shore and I managed to use the reflection of a green canoe and a yellow laser.

From Wikipedia:

The Great Northern Loon, Great Northern Diver, or Common Loon (Gavia immer), is a large member of the loon, or diver, family of birds. The species is known as a Common Loon in North America and the Great Northern Diver in Eurasia

Breeding adults have a black head, white underparts, and a checkered black-and-white mantle. Male and female loons have identical plumage. Non-breeding plumage is brownish, with the chin and foreneck white. The bill is black-blue and held horizontally. The bill colour and angle distinguish this species from the similar Yellow-billed Loon.
