11/365: Red Riding Hood
Matthew 10:16 - "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.
I had a free hour today which gave me a chance to play with the camera for the first time in a while. Bad weather kept me in the house so I decided to play with some water, oil, food coloring and my macro lens.
Red Necked Phalarope from one of the many hikes in Barrow Alaska. I liked the inclusion of the reeds and calm waters.

This is a six-meter flower border where I usually plant the same type of flower all the way along. After growing petunias for several years, I tried red, orange, and yellow osteospermums last year. This year, I’ve returned to petunias—nothing quite matches their charm. This time, they’re red.

I photographed this Red-headed Barbet (Eubucco bourcierii) in Manizales, Caldas, Colombia on June 22, 2017. It lives in evergreen mountain forest and nearby secondary forest. It eats caterpillars and other insects as well as fruit such as berries, and at feeders it takes bananas. Males have a red head, an orange to yellow breast and a white belly, with a white collar between the head and the olive-green back. Manizales sits on the steep ridges of Colombia's Central Cordillera, near the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, which rises to 5,321 meters.
I took this with a Canon EOS 70D and the EF400mm f/5.6L USM, at 1/250 sec, f/5.6, ISO 1600. IUCN lists the Red-headed Barbet as Least Concern with a decreasing population, and the city of Manizales owns and protects forest fragments such as the Ecoparque Los Yarumos inside its urban area.

The red grouse is a medium-sized game bird. It has a plump body, a short tail and a lightly hook-tipped bill. It is reddish-brown, with its legs and feet covered in pale feathers. Birds breed in the UK in the uplands of the north and west and are resident all year round, travelling very little in their lives. The population is declining, perhaps linked to diseases and the loss of heather moorland.
Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) male perched and defending its territory through vocalization. This patch of cattails was on a small urban pond in southwest Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

red hibiscus (rosemallow)
Macro shot of the pistil and stamens of a red perennial hibiscus. (Hibiscus, or rosemallow, is a large genus of about 200–220 species of flowering plants in the family Malvaceae)
I had the flu and hadn't been outside for awhile. I spotted this one tiny (smallest I've ever seen) hibiscus flower in the garden and snuck outside to shoot it.
The only post production was to crop my original photo.
