Red-shouldered hawks search for prey while perched on a treetop or soaring over woodlands. When they sight prey, they kill it by dropping directly onto it from the air.
One of my fav lifers from this past year, the Red Breasted Sapsucker is a beautiful bird and should really be named the red-headed sapsucker given how vivid crimson that head is!
Spent the day looking for wildlife and seen two fox, one a cross fox and this red fox. The cross fox ran off before I could get a picture, but it was beautiful. This was taken about 30 miles northeast of Fairbanks in whats known as Chatanika Valley. It is an old mining district with a Gold Dredge and the old FE Gold camp located nearby. There is still a lot of active gold mines in the area. I prefer the wildlife over the gold even though I'll never get rich from photography.
The fox looks healthy however, the fox's left eye, (right eye as viewing the photo) looks like it might be blind. The fox was hunting in the fresh snow for rodents but didn't find any while it was close to me.

Seeing Red Phalaropes up close from shore is very unusual away from their breeding grounds, so I was very lucky to see 1 bird foraging on land and 10 birds swimming close up in the water. They were very cooperative, allowing for lots of close photos!

Red Cliff Bridge is a cantilevered steel arch bridge located about 0.5 mi (0.80 km) southwest of the town of Red Cliff, Colorado. The bridge spans 471 feet, just over 200 feet above the Eagle River.
The bridge was designed by King Burghardt, an engineer at the Colorado Department of Highways, and built by contractor P.M. Kenney in 1940. Construction was difficult, with workers hanging over a 200 ft (61 m) drop while working in temperatures that sometimes dipped below 0 °F (−18 °C). Burghardt wrote in his journal, "In the morning, each gang was lifted to its scaffold on a platform hung from the high line. They took their lunches with them and spent the entire day in the air with the winter wind continually blowing up the canyon.
I've posted a photo I took in Oct 2020 of this bridge. This photo was taken on April 16th, 2021 following a spring snowfall, which seemed to add a bit to the drama I feel when we travel over it.
