The train was originally timed to depart London at 12:10, but a new path was made available which promoted a faster run for the empty stock movement including fast Line running throughout.

An odd working - here we see OBB Taurus locomotive 1116 081 propelling a City Shuttle DVT on the afternoon of the 4/11/21 which was captured on the slow line passing through Witzendorf, Austria enroute towards St Polten.

Here we see GBRf locomotive 66759 passing the site of Searchlight Lane in Norton Bridge on the afternoon of the 9/6/23 with what I believe to have been 4M22 from Felixstowe to Trafford Park.

Privately owned Vectrons 193203 (front) and 193239 (rear) make the descent from Bad Gastein through Angertal on the 13/2/20 with a tanker train heading towards Schwarzach St-Veit and beyond.

Misjudged the angle with this shot, but here we see 37263 crossing Victoria Bridge on the afternoon of the 5/10/24 with a service to Kidderminster, which ran as part of the 2024 Autumn Diesel Gala.

Classic afternoon shot from this location - here we see OBB Taurus locomotive 1116 052 shortly after departing Dorfgastein station with EC113 from Frankfurt to Klagenfurt on the afternoon of the 14/2/22 (Valentines Day).

Gornergrat Bahn Units 3051 & 3081 were captured on the outskirts of Riffelberg, Switzerland on the afternoon of the 22/8/17 making the climb from Zermatt to Gornergrat with the 13:24 service.

At full zoom, here we see DRS locomotive 66305 working the 11:26 intermodal from Daventry to Doncaster IPort (4E49) on the afternoon of the 17/1/21.

Running early, here we see Colas locomotive 70813 passing through Crawford in Scotland northbound on the WCML with 6S36 from Dalston to Grangemouth on the morning of the 26/9/20.

Dont look down - here is a Heritage JungfrauBahn BDhe4/4 unit (number unknown) looking rather small in its mountenous environment with an afternoon service from Jungfraujoch to Kleine (26/8/15).

After waiting for 2hrs following an interruption to services on this route caused by an infrastructure problem, OBB locomotive 1144 019 turned up and passed through Pfarrwerfen with REX1511 from Worgl to Salzburg just as the sun was swinging round to the other side of the railway.

After being tipped off the previous evening that a couple of trains on the Arosa line would be loco-hauled vice unit, I was up at 5am in order to reach this spot in Chur after travelling from Samedan.

Here we see RhB Ge4/4ii locomotive 622 entering the street section of the Arosa line near Chur Stadt on the morning of the 25/2/20 with the 07:49 service from Arosa to Chur (R1420).

For info, the loco performed one further out and back trip to Arosa vice-unit. It is unclear why it was loco-hauled, but no complaints. Finally, the dull conditions made this shot possible for this time of day.

A new spot for lineside photography, which was found after hiking in the snow. Here we see OBB locomotive 1144 259 working IC515 from Innsbruck to Graz. The train was photographed on the outskirts of Altenmarkt during a light snow shower.

On Valentines Day 2025, fresh snow fell on the upper sections of the Brennerbhan. Here we see TXLogistik Vectron 193597 passing through Gries am Brenner on the afternoon of the 14/2/25 with a loaded automotive train enroute towards Brenner and beyond.

Bowmans Rail's leased CM3306/CM3309 gun it through Merriton, South Australia with 'Bemax' 1501S Empty Minerals to Broken Hill on the 13th of February 2021.

Lead unit CM3306's livery omits a logo on the front, it is the only member of its class to feature this at the time of the image.

As part of the 125th anniversary of the OeBB Railway and 60th anniversary of the Re4/4 locomotive, a number of special light engine movements operated on the OeBB Railway on Sunday 15th September 2024.

In order of appearance with all pantographs raised, here we see 10039 leading 11161, 11350 (430 350), 456 095 and 460 058 which were captured passing through Klus station with a light engine convoy movement from Balsthal to Oensingen on the afternoon of the 15/9/24.

2 July 2025 – Riddes, Valais, Switzerland

At 07h16, a 1h44-delayed Cargo Express/Poste Zürich RB Limmattal - Châteauneuf-Conthey passes the bridge over the Rhône River at Riddes.

Here we see HSB steam engine 99 7247 waiting to depart with a special charter service to the Brocken (Brochen) at lunchtime on the 28/1/17. In the background, 187 013 can be seen on the adjacent platform

This special working ran at a time of day when we were all hampered by the position of the evening sun. Anyway, here we see hired-in Harry Needle locomotives 20118 (front) and 20132 (rear) hauling a set of new VTG wagons from Long Marston to Chaddesden Sidings. The train was captured at North Stafford Junction on the evening of the 29/3/21.

Here we see OBB Taurus locomotive 1016 007 (Sonny Boy) working what I believe to have been a petroleum train enroute towards Bischofshofen and beyond on the afternoon of the 15/9/22. The train was captured between Pfarrwerfen and Bischofshofen.

Here we see Rail Traction Company / Lokomotion Vectron locomotives 193 774 (front) and 193 146 (rear) making the climb to Steinach in Tirol during a very brief sunny period on the afternoon of the 10/2/25 with a scrap metal train enroute towards Brenner and beyond.

Unfortunately, due to climate change, weather patterns were being disrupted across the globe during the 2024-2025 winter season resulting in a snowless landscape on the day in question which is not normally the case (well until now that is). There had been no snowfall on the Brennerbhan for several weeks or any form of precipitation come to that matter which is evident by the brown dying landscape starved of water and moisture!

Climate Change is happening now and this image is just another stark reminder of its impact on the natural environment.

In search of sun, the Rhein was promised so much of my last day of a 12 day trip to Europe. Sadly, it didn't materialise as expected. This was the best shot that could be managed. Here we see SBB Cargo loco 482023 winding its way along the eastern shoreline of the Rhein in Lorch, Germany on the morning of the 9/5/17.

Here we see Railpool Traxx locomtoive 186281 rounding the curve in Ora/Auer with a loaded automotive freight enroute towards Mezzocorona and beyond on the afternoon of the 21/2/23.

Virgin Trains Pendolino 390040 passes through Sedgwick village in the Lake District on the evening of the 12/5/16 with the 16:30 Euston to Glasgow (1S82)

Black Zebra Lokomotion Vectron 193662 (front) and MRCE Vectron 193701 (rear) make the climb through St Jodok on the 6/2/19 with a mixed freight train heading towards Brenner and beyond.

Here we see Vectron locomotives 193960 (front / unbranded) and 193668 (rear) start the climb towards Bad Gastein and beyond on the afternoon of the 20/2/22 with a loaded intermodal train.

Naturally a naughty cloud came along to spoil the party just before the test train passed. Anyway, here we see the return working of 5Z57 with 37510 at the helm enroute back to Derby RTC on the afternoon of the 26/2/21. For info, 47813 was DOR of this consist.

With the forecast of sunny conditions, it was the perfect opportunity to get out and about on the chilly morning with the bike. However, the forecast was once again wrong. Here we see Colas Rail locomotive 70815 working 6C89 from Mountsorrel to Carlisle North Yard, which was captured passing through Barrow-Upon-Trent on the morning of the 17//3/21.

Prior to the onslaught of new plastic units to the RhB in 2023, loco-hauled trains on this line were common place - here we see RhB Ge4/4 locomotive 623 shortly after she departed from Disentis/Muster with the 10:44 service to Chur (RE1732).

Sadly images like these with classic loco-haulage on passenger duties are now confined to the history books on this line with the exception of the Glacier Express, charter train or other special. The love affair with the RhB has all but gone now since the widespread introduction of plastic units back in 2023, which have decimated loco-hauled passenger trains for good :-(

Waking the local area for new places to photograph trains, I stumbled across this location. Here we see OBB locomotive 1116 153 at the rear of the 12:12 service from Salzburg to Wien Flughafen (RJ645) on the afternoon of the 4/11/21.

OBB Taurus locomotive E190 021 (1216 021) makes the climb towards St Jodok on the afternoon of the 22/10/19 with EC87 from Munich to Venezia Santa Lucia

Here we see Lokomotion 139555 bringing up the rear of a scrap metal freight. The train was captured passing through Gries Am Brenner on the afternoon of the 18/2/20 enroute to Brenner. For info, 193647 (front) and Lokomotion 189918 (rear) could be found powering the train up front.
