An experimental new location positioned between Altenmarkt and Radstat in Austria. Here we see OBB 1144 044 locomotive working IC515 from Salzburg to Graz on the morning of the 27/1/18.
OBB locomotives 1144 107 (front) and 1016 017 (rear) both powering were captured near Gerling, Austria making easy work of pulling these two wagons heading in the direction of Salzburg late on the afternoon of the 18/2/16
Private diesel locomotive 751002 (T478 1002) was captured in Opatov on the morning of the 9/7/18 dragging a set of heritage wagons and carriages from Ceska Trebova where they had been stabled for an exhibition. Destination of the convoy is unknown.
Almost out of time with the light, and the appearance of clouds unfortunately spoilt this shot. Here we see OBB locomotive 1216 012 (E190 012) in Nightjet livery passing through Gries Am Brenner on the 10/11/21 with EC89 from Munich to Bologna
SCT Logistics 3MP9 Intermodal curves around Yorkey's Crossing on 18 September 2024 in the bright evening light. SCT015/SCT004 lead the consist through the S-curve just north of Spencer junction as the consist heads toward Perth.
Here we see Lokomotion / Rail Traction Group Vectron locomotives 193774 (front) and 193776 (rear) make the climb towards to St Jodok and Brenner on the morning of the 16/2/22 with a loaded automotive freight enroute towards Italy.
Braving the elements in poor weather conditions. This shot was made possible due to a large mound of snow. Here we see OBB Taurus 1116 187 passing through Altenmarkt in Austria on the afternoon of the 3/2/19 with EC163 from Zurich to Graz.
Please note that this shot would be possible at this location for this train if the sun was shining - the extensive cloud off and light snow falling made it possible.
OBB locomotives 1144 013 (front) & 1144 222 (rear) were captured working EC164 from Graz to Zurich near Stubing on the morning of the 4/1/17.
Here we BLS electric multiple units 535111 (front), 535123 (middle) and 535102 (rear) round Lake Thun in Einigen on the afternoon of the 25/8/16 with 16:01 Thun to Zweisimmen service
The lovely winter scene from the valley floor in Kirchberg in Tirol (Austria) as the sunset by the railway line and mist beginning to form following a sunny day in the snow. The temperature dropped very quickly when this was taken.
This lovely spot had only been visited once before and with limited daylight at this location, my arrival was timed to perfection. Here we see OBB locomotives 1144 041 (front) and special liveried Taurus 1116 159 (rear) pass through Breitenstein am Semmering at lunchtime on the 6/11/21 heading towards Murzzchulag and beyond.
Please note that the sun does not last long at this location during the Autumn months (it is lost to the mountains by 2pm).
Unaware of this working and taking me by surprise, here we see SBB Re4/4 11161 hauling heritage BDe4/4 1643 and support vehicle through Immensee on the afternoon of the 5/9/22.
With sunny weather forecasted, it was the perfect opportunity to cover this daytime working in a scenic setting - here we see Freightliner locomotives 90041 (front) and 90049 (rear) head north on the WCML through Docker in Cumbria with the late running 06:03 Basford Hall to Coatbridge (4S50) intermodal on the morning of the 31/7/20.
In poor climatic conditions, here we see DB cargo loco 90029 on hire to Grand Central working the 13:09 empty stock movement from Wembley to Crewe CS. For info, 90026 was DOR of this MK4 consist. The train was captured on Searchlight Lane in Norton Bridge, Staffordshire.

Here we see the RhB steam snowplough convoy heading back to Pontresina. The vehicles and loco's were 9132, 46, 47, 802, 182 and Xrot9213 bringing up the rear. The train was captured passing through Bernina Lagalb.
Here we see CD Cargo locomotive 230025 passing through Dolni Loucky at teatime on the 24/2/22 with a freight train towards Rikonin and beyond.
Court out in a sudden snow blizzard following the arrival of Storm Dudley in the Alps, here we see OBB Taurus locomotive 1116 199 working REX1516 from Salzburg to Worgl, which was captured in Tenneck.
Here we see Lokomotion / Rail Traction Group locomotive 189902 propelling a freight train through St Jodok, Austria towards Brenner and beyond on the morning of the 16/2/22. For information, MRCE locomotives 189910 and 189936 were up front leading the train.
At full zoom, we see a UID ICE unit working the 08:05 service from Schwarzach-St Veit to Munchen HBF (ICE1280) on the morning of the 9/2/19 at sunrise.
The last shot of the day which was very tight for the setting sun. Here we see a zoomed in image of HST Powercar 43122 lead the 16:53 service from Kidderminster to Highley on the evening of the 3/10/24. The train was captured crossing Victoria Bridge in Arley . For information, 43094 was on the rear of the HST consist.
After trying to photograph one of the special liveried Railjets during an 8 day visit to Austria, I was finally granted my wish. Here we see OBB Railjet 1116 249 passing through Langkampfen as the sun was falling behind the mountains working RJ862 from Wien to Bregenz on the 9/2/18

Here we see a diverted LNER Azuma unit 800 106 heading north on the WCML through Crawford with 1W06 from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh on the afternoon of the 25/9/20.
EN The line between Noertzange and Rumelange is only served by passenger trains during the week at rush hours. A CFL 2000 series emu shuttles between Noertzange and Rumelange during those periods, including stops at Kayl and Tétange. The line is also sees cargo trains towards the Cimalux concrete factory and a Vossloh workshop for rail infrastructure, both in Rumelange.
Photographed is CFL 2014 as RegionalBahn 6243 from Noertzange to Rumelange, just before Rumelange station. One multiple unit is enough the perform the shuttle service on this line during rush hour. The line in front of the photo leads towards the Cimalux concrete factory.
NL De spoorlijn tussen Noertzange en Rumelange (6c) is een van de uitlopers van de "hoofdlijn" tussen Luxemburg (stad) en Esch sur Alzette, in het zuiden van het land. Deze uitloper wordt maar beperkt bediend. Alleen doordeweeks en in de spits wordt er een halfuursdienstje gereden waarbij een enkel stelletje uit de CFL 2000 serie pendelt tussen Noertzange en Rumelange. Hierbij wordt nog gestopt te Kayl en Tétange.
Een enkel stelletje is voldoende om heen en weer te pendelen en het is CFL 2014 die in de avondspits van 18 juni de diensten waarneemt. Op de foto is het Z2-treinstel onderweg als RB 6243 van Noertzange naar Rumelange. De foto is genomen even voor Rumelange, het spoor op de voorgrond loopt naar de Cimalux cementfabriek.

OBB 1144 206 was captured passing through Pfaarwerfen on the afternoon of the 5/2/18 with REX1515 from Worgl to Salzburg in perfect winter conditions.
In very challenging conditions and a misty landscape, Lokomotion owned 139312 was captured in Saalfelden on the morning of the 10/2/18 with the overnight Schnee Express ski train from Hamburg to Schwarzach-St.Veit
Here we see Colas Rail Freight locomotive 70801 rounding the curve north of Crawford at lunchtime on the 2/9/21 with the 10:15 service from the Port of Workington to Aberdeen Waterloo.
Unfortunately 4M01 passed with 66724 just out of shot running nearly 4hrs early at the same time as 6S48 passed, so had to make do with an earlier position of the train instead of snapping it further forward :-(
Here we see RhB xrot 9213 steam snowplough with Gem4/4 locomotive 802 pausing on the small bridge crossing the valley as part of a special running day on the morning of the 24/2/19. For info, 802 was providing extra power from rear for the "beast", but in diesel mode as oppose to electric.
Today's 6MW2 steel train was anything but. Hauling only containers and a string of empty flat wagons, it was the locomotive combination that caught the eye.
Continuing with the stored locomotive transfers from Melbourne's Dynon depot to NSW, today's train featured DL45 and the historic bulldog S306. Add 8256 as a banker engine, and it was a sensation combination of modern and heritage horsepower.
After waiting for 6 hours for an Italian bound freight train, this one turned up - the usual intermodal traffic were nowhere to be seen on the day in question. Here we see OBB locomotives 1116 280 (front) and 1016 037 (rear) start to make the climb towards Bad Gastein and beyond as the sun was going down behind the mountains.

First time of trying this shot in the Czech Republic - here we see CD Cargo locomotive 363045 passing through Usti nad Labem Strekov with a loaded freight in the nick of time for the falling sun on the evening of the 5/9/23.
RhB Allegra unit 3513 was captured in Ospizio Bernina on the cold sunny morning of the 28/12/16 with the 09:48 St Moritz to Poschiavo service.

On a cold and frosty morning we see an LNER Azuma 800 113 passing through Abington southbound on the WCML with the diverted 1E13 from Edinburgh to London Kings Cross.

Westfriedhof U-Bahn Station, Munich, Germany
You wouldn't believe how many times I have seen this station on Flickr and thought that I must go there! For those who know me and follow my work I do have a little soft spot for Underground stations and Westfriedhof didn't fail to impress. It was high on my list of places to visit during my time to Munich. Those orb like lamps you see in the picture look fairly smaller but trust me seeing them in real life they are massive.
Massive thanks to Joe@Plasmatico for his suggestions on some stations to visit. Joe is the grand master of the Munich U-Bahn stations and has taken some awesome photos of the stations. Be sure to check out his photos over on 500px.
Its quite refreshing to see colour like this in an Underground station, makes the space feel a lot open and welcoming to people who use the tube system. I wish some of the London Underground stations would take note of the Munich U-Bahn system.
These lamps from what I read were a later addition to the station, maybe this station was dark and gloomy before so they installed these and wow what a transformation.
Probably this station and Marienplatz (soon to be uploaded) were my favourites of the Munich U-Bahn system.

Westfriedhof is an U-Bahn station in Munich on the U1 line of the Munich U-Bahn system, it opened on 24 May 1998, the extension onwards to Georg-Brauchle-Ring was completed in 2003. 11 large lamps measuring 3.80 metres in diameter were installed in 2001 and bathe the station in blue, red and yellow light.
The station is also served by routes Munich tramway and Munich tramway of the Munich tramway, and is the terminus of the latter route.
