I've often seen yellow-vented bulbuls (pycnonotus goiavier) in pairs but this is the first time I've seen three together. Photographed in Khuk Khak, Phang Nga, Thailand.

A pair of streak-eared bulbuls (pycnonotus conradi), one of which is preening its feathers while the other perches sedately on a nearby branch. Photographed in Khuk Khak, Phang Nga, Thailand.

Bulbul ventrirrojo - Red Vented Bulbul - (Pycnonotus cafer)

(Pycnonotus cafer) The aggressive nature and fruit-eating habits of the red-vented bulbul, have unfortunately resulted in it being considered one of the world’s worst invasive alien species in areas where it has been introduced. Originally from the Indian Subcontinent, this was taken in Tahiti in French Polynesia

The yellow-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus goiavier) is a member of the bulbul family of passerine birds. It is resident breeder in southeast Asia from southern Thailand and Cambodia south to Borneo and the Philippines. It is found in a wide variety of open habitats, but not deep forest. It is one of the most common birds in cultivated areas. They appear to be nomadic, roaming from place to place regularly.

The yellow-vented bulbul builds a well-camouflaged but fragile, loose, deep, cup-shaped nest from grass, leaves, roots, vine stems, and twigs. The nest is untidy on the outside, but it is neatly lined with plant fibers. It may be built in a wide range of places from low bushes to high trees. This is a species adapted to humans and may even nest in gardens. The yellow-vented bulbul lays 2–5 eggs in February to June.

The yellow-vented bulbuls eats berries and small fruits. They also sip nectar, nibble on young shoots, and take some insects.

I see species of bulbul wherever I travel in Africa and Asia. I saw this African red-eyed bulbul in The Kalahari Desert, in Botswana, in its preferredl habitat of dry savanna/shrubland. Interestingly, the Asian red-eyed bulbul is found in a completely different environment of moist lowlands. More at "Colin Pacitti Wildlife Photography & Fishing Travels" - www.colin-pacitti.com.

This is the Streak-Eared Bulbul - Pycnonotus blanfordi - a songbird which is, apparently, commonly found in Thailand and south Asia although this was the only one I saw in three weeks. I really can't find much information about this bird except that it has a varied diet including fruits, berries and seeds. Sorry I have no more info. I spotted this one looking for insects on the stump in an area near to our hotel in Khao Lak, Thailand, and got a couple of quick shots before it flew off again.
