Stripe-Throated Bulbul
Stripe-throated Bulbul, Pycnonotus finlaysoni, Merbah Luris Leher
Its hot season here in Malaysia, this birds is cooling off from the heat in mini 'swimming pool' in the middle of the orchard.
This kind of bulbul is found on both lowlands and hills in the north of Peninsular Malaysia but progressively confined to hilly area southwards. This species frequent gathers in small parties to feed in fruiting shrubs, typically feeding in lower storey and also fringing vegetation. Call a rising then descending series of about eight melodious notes.
Found from the Malay Peninsula to Borneo. Due to its high singing ability, It is threatened by poaching, as well as habitat loss. Uplisted from endangered to critically endangered on the IUCN Red List in 2018. Singapore, Jun 2019.
This bird emerged from the tangle of branches and twigs just long enough to get some sort of shot. It was the red eye, with its orange surround, that captured my attention. The bird was photographed outdoors at the Olduvai Gorge Museum located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Northern Tanzania on the edge of the Olduvai Gorge. It is a museum dedicated to the appreciation and understanding of the Olduvai Gorge and Laetoli fossil sites. Evidently a new museum was opened in 2018.
The common bulbul (Pycnonotus barbatus) is a member of the bulbul family of passerine birds. It is found in north-eastern, northern, western and central Africa.
The bill is fairly short and thin, with a slightly down curving upper mandible. The bill, legs, and feet are black and the eye is dark brown with a dark eye-ring, which is not readily visible. It is about 18 cm in length, with a long tail. It has a dark brown head and upperparts. Sexes are similar in plumage.
It is a common resident breeder in much of Africa, and it has recently been found breeding in southern Spain at Tarifa. It is found in woodland, coastal bush, forest edges, riverine bush, montane scrub, and in mixed farming habitats. It is also found in exotic thickets, gardens, and parks.
The common bulbul is usually seen in pairs or small groups. It is a conspicuous bird, which tends to sit at the top of a bush. As with other bulbuls they are active and noisy birds. The flight is bouncing and woodpecker-like. The call is a loud doctor-quick doctor-quick be-quick be-quick. - Wikipedia

It is resident breeder in southeastern Asia from Indochina to the Philippines. It is found in a wide variety of open habitats, and it one of the most common birds in cultivated areas. Malay Peninsula. Mar 2019.

This Bulbul is resident of tropical moist lowland forests and low hills. Can be found in Malaysia and Borneo. It is seen in forest edges where there are fruiting trees of secondary forest. Low scrubs and middle storey feeder. Have seen then often in groups of a few birds.
Sejenis merbah yang mudah dijumpai di pinggir hutan terutama apabila ada pokok yang sedang masak buahnya. Selalunya apabila ada ‘birdwave’ atau gerombolan burung seperti Sepah dan Kelicap menghurung pokok buah hutan, yang paling besar saiznya diantara mereka adalah Merbah Perut Kelabu.

I don't know why this streak-eared bulbul (pycnonotus conradi) chose to perch on the side of this shrub - but it returned to this position several times. Perhaps the bird was searching for insects. Photographed near Ao Nang, Krabi Province, Thailand.
