This pair of red-whiskered bulbul (pycnonotus jocosus) had been facing one another and, apparently, chatting away quite happily. One of them must have taken offence at something said as they were suddenly very pointedly looking in opposite directions!! Photographed in Trou D'Eau Douce, Mauritius.

Himalayan bulbul (Pycnonotus leucogenys)

Taken at Doi Ang Khang, Thailand on 13 Jan 2019.

A red-whiskered bulbul (pycnonotus jocosus) that found a suitably high perch to sing in the morning. Photographed in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The Himalayan bulbul feeds on insects and other small invertebrates, as well as berries, fruits, seeds, buds and nectar.

Nests are usually built in bushes or low branches, are cup-shaped, and made of stems, roots and twigs. The female usually lays three eggs, which are incubated for 12 days. The chicks leave the nest when they are 9–11 days old. There may be up to three broods raised per year. During breeding, adults become very territorial.
