My first photo from a marvelous place for birders : Uttarakhand

I'm not finished posting my photos from Kenya, so I'll alternate africa and India. Of course, I can't wait to develop and post my photos from Uttarakhand. Here's one as a taster.

Je n'ai pas fini de publier mes photos du Kenya, aussi j'alternerai Inde et Afrique. Bien entendu, il me tardait de développer et de publier mes photos d'Uttarakhand. En voici une comme avant-goût.

A locally common resident bulbul in northern part of Peninsula Malaysia. When shooting this it never occurred to me it is a lifer. Then, after checking my lifers list, it is actually lifer for Bulbul no 24 and birding lifer no 513. Glad i am not deleting it during the birding trip. Fuhhhhhh!

Straw-headed bulbul (黃冠鵯; Scientific Name: Pycnonotus zeylanicus)

The red-whiskered bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus) is common in Mauritius though it is not a native species.

It is reported to aid the dispersion of two other introduced and invasive species - Ligustrum robustum and Soapbush or Koster's curse (Clidemia hirta). Introducing the plant Koster's Curse in Australia can result in a fine of up to 60,000 (Australian) $.

The Yellow-eared Bulbul is an endemic resident breeder in the highlands of Sri Lanka. This was one of many seen in Horton Plains National Park.

The white-spectacled bulbul (Pycnonotus xanthopygos) is a member of the bulbul family. It is 20–25 cm (7.9–9.8 in) in length with a wingspan of 20–25 cm (7.9–9.8 in). These birds live in fruit plantations, gardens, and cities. It is the most common member of the bulbul family in Israel and Lebanon. In Turkey, it is mainly found in the coastal Mediterranean region, but its range extends from Patara/Gelemiş near Kaş in the west to Türkoğlu in the east. Breeding populations are found from Central and Southern Turkey to Western Syria, Lebanon, Western Jordan, Israel, Sinai and western, central and southern Arabia.

Both sexes are similar; juveniles have a browner hood and less obvious eye-rings than the adults. The nest – a small cup of thin twigs, grass stems, leaves and moss – is generally located in bushes and lined with hair, shredded bark and small roots.

The red-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus cafer) is a member of the bulbul family of passerines. It is a resident breeder across the Indian subcontinent, including Sri Lanka extending east to Burma and parts of Tibet. It has been introduced in many other parts of the world and has established itself in the wild on several Pacific islands including Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and Hawaii. It has also established itself in parts of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, the United States and Argentina. It is included in the list of the world's 100 worst invasive alien species.
