Formed by two huge volcanoes, Banks Peninsula sits to the east of Christchurch city and is a distinctive feature of the east coast of New Zealand's South Island.
Once covered in tall native forest the peninsula has been burned and felled in the early history of human settlement in New Zealand to the extent that only tiny scraps of the original cover remain.
Nevertheless it is a dramatic landscape with spectacular volcanic cliffs, and steeply rolling hills covered in grasses, scrub and forest remnants and often topped by volcanic crags and outcrops.
Godley heads is a popular walking and mountainbiking area only minutes from Christchurch city on the northern bank of Lyttelton harbour, the harbour itself being a sea-drowned crater.
With protection, some of the orginal forest is regenerating and birds locally extinct on the peninsula (or nearly so) such as the korimako (bellbird) are coming back.
The harsh climate and unique landscape of the peninsula and the neighbouring Kaitorete Spit have produced a number of plant and insect species not found anywhere else in New Zealand.

This patronus figure on the front roof of St. Marien Church in Osnabrück, Germany seems to take care of all the passersby on the historic cobbled stone pavement. The first parts of this church have been built in 1171 and it has been finished in the 13th century. With its bows and towers it's one of the most impressing buildings in Osnabrück.

This is a photograph from the annual BHAA Government Services/Social Protection Group's 5 Mile Road Race took place on Tuesday 27th May 2013 at 20:00 in Dunboyne, Co. Meath, Ireland. The course is a fast flat course which begins on the Dunboyne-Maynooth Road between the two entrances to Dunboyne Castle Estate. The race then proceeds in an anti-clockwise direction back to the Dunboyne Athletic Club on the Rooske Road in Dunboyne. The race reaches higher standards with every passing year. Paul Gorey and his team of volunteers must be given great credit for putting on such a wonderful race event. Thanks are also extended to Dunboyne Athletic Club, the BHAA, and the local community who all make this possible.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: There were approximately 500 participants .
Weather: A bright sunny evening with little breeze
Course: This course is fully left handed with very little in the way of inclines. Good road surface. These are nice narrow country roads with shelter provided by mature hedgerows. This year the race finished with 3/4 of a lap of the Dunboyne AC track.
Refreshments: Lots and lots as is the tradition with BHAA Events - served outside the scouts hall at the track.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. In quella assurda guerra civile e religiosa i contadini e gli operai che un tempo vivevano le loro semplici esistenze nell' equilibrio precariamente stabile della pace si sono ritrovati nemici l'un l'altro per la volontà di capi indigeni rosi dall'ambizione del potere ( Izetbegović, Tudjiman e Milosevic ) e in conseguenza diretta dei progetti strategici, camuffati da intervento umanitario a tutela di due delle parti coinvolte, da parte di alcune potenze straniere con il beneplacito del Vaticano.
Si tratta di quelle potenze straniere che giocavano la sciagurata partita a scacchi della disgregazione della nazione jugoslava, progetto costato molte decine di migliaia di morti e molte centinaia di migliaia di feriti.
Curiosamente, la maggior parte dei criminali di guerra nella ex Jugoslavija sono restati impuniti, o semi impuniti davanti al Tribunale internazionale.
La versione dei fatti che si voleva accreditare in Occidente prevedeva un solo colpevole, il governatore dei Serbi di Bosnia R. Karadzic, coadiuvato dai suoi alti ufficiali come Mladic, ed un solo mandante, Slobodan Milosevic a Belgrado.
Si tratta di personaggi inquietanti che in ragione della loro ambizione personale e della grande spregiudicatezza e del cinismo che ne informava le azioni si sono resi responsabili di eventi delittuosi di ampia portata e gravità.
Eppure pensiamo che la versione occidentale diffusa da alcuni mass media perfino sugli eventi piu' tragici del conflitto bosniaco possa essere stata fuorviante e funzionale al progetto politico sottostante accennato. La Storia è piena di esempi di mistificazione a alterazione di accadimenti.
Dopo che la regione di Srebrenica fu istituita nel 1994 come zona protetta dai caschi blu dell'ONU, unitamente a Sarajevo, Tuzla, Zepa, Goražde, Bihać ..
" Alle forze Bosniache sotto il comando di Naser Orić era stato permesso di tenere le armi in posizioni all’interno della zona protetta, contrariamente alle condizioni stabilite nel patto col quale si conveniva il “cessate il fuoco”.
Orić approfittò della situazione per condurre attacchi notturni contro villaggi serbi nei dintorni. Il caso più clamoroso fu quello di Kravica, attaccato nella notte del 7 gennaio, il Natale Ortodosso. Queste azioni militari prendevano la forma di pulizia etnica e rappresaglie contro i serbi. Centinaia furono torturati, feriti e brutalmente uccisi durante questi attacchi. Nel 1994 il governo serbo fece istanza all’ONU, fornendo una lista di 371 serbi uccisi nell’area. I media serbi, da allora, hanno riportato numeri molto più alti, fino a 3287. Non è attualmente chiaro quanti di questi fossero civili.
Il generale Philippe Morillon (francese, comandante della "United Nations Protection Force, UNPROFOR ndr.) dichiarò la sua convinzione che l’attacco serbo su Srebrenica fosse una reazione diretta ai massacri di Naser Orić e delle sue forze avvenuti nel 1992 e nel 1993.

Anche per quanto riguarda il numero dei morti di parte musulmana nella zona di Srebrenica le cifre sono contrastanti. Si parla di 6414 salme recuperate, a fronte di una cifra di oltre 8000 fornita da fonti vicine alle forze islamiche.
Naser Oric ha scontato soltanto due anni di reclusione in Europa dopo la condanna del Tribunale per i crimini di guerra nella ex Jugoslavija, nonostante il ricorso promosso dal P.M. Carla del Ponte e non accolto.
Numerose testimonianze fotografiche raccapriccianti, visibili anche sull'internet, mostrano teste mozzate di civili, militari e paramilitari serbi, cadaveri seviziati e parti di corpo umano arse dal fuoco. I crimini musulmani a danno della popolazione serba riguardano anche molti bimbi, il cui volto risulta orribilmente sfigurato.

Le operazioni diplomatiche e militari volte a consolidare lo scippo della provincia storica del Kosovo alla Serbia da parte degli Albanesi di Bosnia (anno 2004) con l'aiuto di forze straniere ha condotto ad una situazione di pulizia etnica a danno di semplici cittadini di etnia serba e religione ortodossa nella capitale Pristina e zone limitrofe.
La conseguenza piu' allarmante della guerra in Kosovo sta, a mio avviso, nell'esasperazione dei sentimenti nazionalistici e revanchisti indotta nella comune popolazione della Repubblica serba.
Si tratta di un popolo gia' provata dalle sconfitte militari della guerra bosniaca e dai bombardamenti indiscriminati della NATO (Italia compresa) nel 1999 sulle maggiori città del Paese, come Belgrado, Nis, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Valjevo, Kraljevo etc.
E' curioso notare che la prestigiosa associazione per la tutela dei diritti umani "Amnesty International", secondo quanto si legge su vari siti internet, ha giudicato che "La NATO ha in piu' occasioni violato i principi umanitari da applicare in ogni conflitto armato" , rifiutandosi pero' di riconoscere come crimine di guerra l' intera operazione di bombardamento sistematico indiscriminato della Serbia nel 1999.
Mi è capitato, durante il mio breve soggiorno itinerante in Serbia, di parlare con gente che non condivideva affatto la condotta delle forze armate serbe dell'epoca nella guerra in Bosnia. Non è solo il buon Kusturica a criticare i nazionalisti al comando delle varie fazioni politico-religiose dell'epoca, ma anche la gente comune. Ricordo in particolare un giovane (rispetto a chi scrive!) dipendente di un museo storico che, fra l'altro, era stato militare di leva nel corpo delle guardie presidenziali di S. Milosevic. Costui non ne aveva un ottimo ricordo..
Mai, pero', mi è capitato di incontrare sul mio cammino di viaggiatore qualcuno che fosse d'accordo sullo scippo del Kosovo tuttora in corso.
Per tutti il Kosovo è l'ultimo atto della vergognosa operazione di disgregazione della Jugoslavija a danno dello Stato serbo .. altro che nobile episodio di autodeterminazione della maggiornaza musulmana..!

Under Indonesian law, areas that qualify for protection are based on slope (>40%), sensitive soil types, elevation (above 2000m), and peat land (>3m), thereby preventing any man-made development within most of the Sumatran orangutan’s habitat. This is a photograph from the seventh annual Donadea 50KM Ultramarathon which was held in Donadea Forest, Donadea, Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Saturday 13th February 2016 at 10:00. The race was also an International Association of Ultrarunners Silver Label Event and the Athletics Association of Ireland (AAI) National 50KM Championships. The race completes 10 loops of a very well known 5KM trail around the circumference of the forest. Most of this trail is in very good condition with good conditions underfoot for the entire 5KM stretch. The start-finish area is located close to the coffee shop area in the center of the park beside the now ruined and abandoned Donadea Castle. This year, like all previous events, was a fantastic event with great support around the course for the athletes. However the structure of the course with the repeated loops makes a great atmosphere for the runners themselves with great camaraderie being shown amongst all of the competitors. Where is Donadea?. Donadea Forest Park is situated in rural north Kildare and is approximately 640 acres in size. The amenities at the forest include good walking trails, a diversity of natural habitats, a walled stream, a large natural lake, and the ruins of Donadea castle. The Park is a designated National Heritage Area. The basic designation for wildlife is the Natural Heritage Area (NHA). This is an area considered important for the habitats present or which holds species of plants and animals whose habitat needs protection. It is a special occasion to allow the 50KM to be held in this environment.

Can I use these photographs directly from Flickr on my social media account(s)?
Yes - of course you can! Flickr provides several ways to share this and other photographs in this Flickr set. You can share directly to: email, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Tumblr, LiveJournal, and Wordpress and Blogger blog sites. Your mobile, tablet, or desktop device will also offer you several different options for sharing this photo page on your social media outlets.
BUT..... Wait there a minute....
We take these photographs as a hobby and as a contribution to the running community in Ireland. We do not charge for our photographs. Our only "cost" is that we request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, VK.com, Vine, Meetup, Tagged, Ask.fm,etc or (2) other websites, blogs, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you must provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us or acknowledge us as the original photographers.
This also extends to the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a separate wall or blog post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other social media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.
I want to download these pictures to my computer or device?
You can download this photographic image here directly to your computer or device. This version is the low resolution web-quality image. How to download will vary slight from device to device and from browser to browser. Have a look for a down-arrow symbol or the link to 'View/Download' all sizes. When you click on either of these you will be presented with the option to download the image. Remember just doing a right-click and "save target as" will not work on Flickr.
I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?
If you just need these photographs for online usage then they can be used directly once you respect their Creative Commons license and provide a link back to our Flickr set if you use them. For offline usage and printing all of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution.

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
