Skylark - Alauda Arvensis
Skylarks are characteristic of semi-natural grassland systems from sand dunes through heathland to marginal upland, but are most common in arable farmland, making use of the nesting cover and bare ground for feeding that crops themselves provide throughout the year. Males are highly territorial, using long song flights at high altitude to broadcast to rivals and potential mates because the open landscapes they prefer are devoid of high perches. The stamina required to sustain long song flights has led to song flight length being used as an “honest signal” of male quality by females, allowing male Skylarks to advertise themselves without bright plumage, so they have kept the cryptic, brown and streaked coloration that affords them protection from predators on the ground.
Although migratory in much of northern Europe, British breeding Skylarks are believed not to move far between seasons, although upland birds move to lower latitudes. They can then often begin to breed in March and continue into July, making up to three breeding attempts. In winter, they mostly use crop stubble and fallow fields, in which they forage for weed seed and spilled grain, often in large flocks. Throughout the year, the Skylark’s heritage as a steppe species is apparent in its avoidance of vertical structures, which restricts the suitability of farmland with a high density of hedgerows.
Thanks to all who take the time to Comment/fav etc, it is always Appreciated.
As everywhere in the world caring for the young ones is a kind of instinct for most animals and human beings. To watch the lioness with her three cubs was really a joy for me. The young ones were playing, took a pause, walked away from their mother, were running around. The lioness waited, turned around, walked backwards and at the end they disappeared together into the bushes.
I wish you all a wonderful Christmas time.
The best protection woman can have is courage...and perhaps a baby dragon...
This girl I know, needs some shelter
She don't believe anyone can help her
She's doing so much harm
Doing so much damage
But you don't want to get involved
You tell her she can manage
And you can't change the way she feels
But you could put your arms around her
I know you want to live yourself
But could you forgive yourself
If you left her just the way you found her?
(I should get two more 🐉 and dye my hair blonde...?)

The first house was build in the thirteenth century as a hunting lodge used by the counts and dukes of Gelre. The house was named 'Pauwenburcht' (Peacock Castle) because of the white peacocks they kept there. The dukes of Gelre used to wear the feathers on their helmets.
The present house was build in 1905 on the foundations of a house dating from the seventeenth century.
Staverden Castle is build on the foundations of a seventeenth century house.
At the backside of the house lies a small island in a pond. On the the island you can find the tomb of Eleonora. This Eleonora lived at Wildenborgh Castle, one of the eight castles of Vorden. She had a lover, who went on a crusade in the Holy Land. When he was away, another man wanted to gain her by force. When her lover returned home, he was killed by his rival. Eleonora wanted to escape this evil man and fled to Staverden, where a mighty knight lived, who gave her protection. She stayed there for the rest of her unhappy life, always dressed in black.
After her death she was buried on the island in the pond. On moonlit nights, the black lady is seen there, walking to and fro on the island, wringing her hands and lamenting about her lost love.

Music is for the guardians:
These stone walls are intended to break the waves during storm surges before they roll with all their force towards the dikes. Like here in Cuxhaven (GER)
Diese Steinwälle sollen bei Sturmfluten die Wellen brechen, bevor sie mit der ganzen Kraft auf die Deiche zurollen. So wie hier in Cuxhaven (GER)
Mom and dad barnacle goose shielded their young from the camera. At first they stood between me and the little ones, but after they got used to my presence they stopped doing so. Nice to see how they protect their young.

It was an exceedingly windy day, so I can't help but think that the hoverfly was hanging onto the stamen of a day lily for a bit of protection.
Thank you for your visits and comments, they're all greatly appreciated. Have a great day!
MR. PAUL:
As you can see I am fully protected against covid-19.
I have to continue with that face protection, because I will be vaccinated on 9 May.
Then I can give everyone a big bear kiss again.
Mr. Paul
