Yodography - Portmanteau of Yoda Photography
"Do or do not. There is no try" Yoda, the Empire strikes back.
Sometimes I have thought about a photo I would like to take but, for limitations of time, film, or something else I have to stop before I get it. I have only one or two chances to get it right. These images I whimsically categorize as Yodography so I can, much later, determine what went differently than my idea and whether it was better or worse for it.

Chasing raindrop splashes with the high speed JPG mode (High speed 1, 15 FPS at 3MP) trading FPS for resolution. Finally saw a nice 'crown' splash, but out of focus.

This modified Harris Shutter Effect image of a camera on a moving handrail passing (relatively) moving people emphasizes things that move (the people, background details) and other differences between three sequential photos while turning the background black. Registration of walkway details minimized all but reflections therein.

In American sports a benched player is not participating in the game. These shoes were removed while practicing in the dojo (high key).
This was an exercise in photographing a subject (shoe) from an obstructed perspective, necessitating imagining the camera's perspective while focusing and framing.
Processing Note:
Two different high key images were prepared in Silver Efex pro with good details in different areas, so these were blended to give the result. This was necessary to preserve legibility of the Converse All Star logo (without local doctoring).
Utata's summer project 2016 invites us to go... something.
The "Go arts" category invites images inspired by existing art, as this composition was inspired by the photomosaic cover art for Talking Heads More Songs About Buildings and Food. Imperfect alignment of windows in the school lunchroom provide a natural, albeit skewed, mosaic view of the vicinity.
Addendum
Another perspective on this image was serendipitously provided by a photo adjacent to it in Utata's pool: Beverly's image of a vintage multigraph cabinet card. These trick photos were made with strategic placement of mirrors to allow a single exposure to capture all sides of the subject. Note: The image has since been removed from Utata's pool.
Technical note
The original image had a sky that was blown out when the rest of the image properly exposed, and adjustments in Lightroom to remedy this left the image seeming flat and lacking contrast. Partial color replacement in Topaz Restyle, using a high contrast cross-process custom preset (a blue-tinged Kodak Ectachrome image with colors from buildings and landscape), recovered structure in the cloudy sky.
There is no dark side of the iPad.
As a matter of fact, it's all dark.
Utata's Iron photographer challenge 311 requests compositions with:

These photos are of a day ( 1975 ) we took a group of autistic children out to the Mohave desert for balloon rides. What an incredible day we had. It was perfect and the children were ecstatic as you could imagine. It was great fun. The personal rewards from this kind of activity are immeasurable.

I was chasing splashes (backjets) with a low perspective on a rainy day when the postman moseyed past.
Crispy processing note:
The JPG was contrast enhanced by curve adjustment, to crush black and blow highlights, microcontrast and fine contrast increased to about +30, exposure increased to about +0.80.

The macro Mondays prompt for 6-15-26 is "space" so I examined some vintage notions of the future space travel 'look'. An OOF Duro Satellite Bank in the background adds atmosphere to the pliable astronaut mounted on driveway gravel.
For scale: the figure in focus is about 1.75 in/4.45cm tall.

The Agfa Super Silette LK seems well suited to zone focusing as the exposure meter is on the top, so one doesn't have to put eye to camera to capture a moment. I tried it out on a rainy day.

Utata's Thursday walk 544 took me through town as an elderly lady, dressed in white, went for a stroll. A Civil war style sepia preset seemed suited to the buildings here.

Technical trivia
There is no glare on the water because I was using a polarizing filter. While watching the scene with my left eye and framing with my right I neglected to re-orient the filter to get both perspectives.

I sought to emulate his selfie in selfie exemplar, even adding a filthy hat found in a junk store to improve my shadow outline.

The old phone poles in Dinkytown, long used for stapled advertisements, are being replaced with newer ones lacking this stapled character. Most have recently been denuded of paper flyers, either for periodic cleaning or censorship.
Processing note: This camera needs noise reduction. I used DXO prime.

Camera thoughts:
The camera meter is accurate enough for flatly lit subjects but is unsurprisingly fooled by backlit subjects or large bright spots. This image was made to see how a high dynamic range subject might look as the underexposed areas fall apart. Noise in the dark, underexposed areas is expected to be bad and is unpleasant. My older noise reduction software cannot deal with it without heavy detail smudging.
The second problem, distortion of nearby objects due to a (relatively) tilted focal plane, is also obvious. Here, the distance is 10-15 feet.
I suspect B&W film would be more pleasing, to my eye, when using the built in light meter to judge a scene. A straightened version with Agfa APX 25 BW filter applied in DXO filmpack is below for comparison.
Conclusion: This camera is quite limited in features. There are only four shutter speeds (1/30, 1/80, 1/125, 1/250) but these are paired with an aperture covering f2.8-f22 on 28mm lens. Fast film on bright days can be overexposed and slow film in dark situations can be underexposed with these limitations. But I found it was actually fun to carry and use this camera, much like the Canon IXUS/Elph and I got some photos I might otherwise have missed - along with several I will never look at again. Learning to accurately judge distance in low light situations will be a bit of a problem, so I imagine my common use will be in daylight with a fine grained BW film. It will be fun to eventually add a flash and explore the possibilities.
Several people have reviewed this re-badged camera, or the Canon original, online. I'd suggest Mike Eckman for one who does it better than me:

This modified Harris Shutter Effect image generates colored "ghosts" on a black background. Things that move and other differences between three more-or-less sequential photos are emphasized while static features turn black. Weak colors and soft blacks made more intense by modifying brightness in HSV space.

The macro Monday challenge for 7-28-25 is Decay. I ran across a brick spalling off sizable chunks, due to a century of water damage, that had become home to a tiny plant.
The zone in focus of this alternate composition is smaller than 3 inches in each dimension, as is the damaged brick portion, but you can judge below. I like the bokeh leading lines of this composition better than the first one.
I went for Uutata's Thursday walk when it was Wednesday here but those in Japan were enjoying the early hours on Thursday.
Water freezing and trees growing are like nature's jackhammers, grinding down mountains and tearing up our little constructions.
