I am revisiting older images collected for Harris shutter effect compositions. Some, like this one, are low contrast and dynamic range, quickly becoming crispy and noisy during processing. It seemed ideal for a Sliders Sunday effort.
Details
This modified Harris Shutter Effect (HSE) image generates colored "ghosts" on a black background. Displaced background elements (waves, birds, the sun's edge) are emphasized while indistinguishable features turn black. Vintage JPG tones were trimmed to match histogram data before proceeding with SFHSE construction.

Details
This modified Harris Shutter Effect image generates colored "ghosts" on a black background. Displaced (dissimilar) background elements (versus the frame registered subject) are emphasized while similar features turn black.

The tire tracks had me imagining the lanes a snowy colosseum racetrack.

Slow shutter speed and hand-held camera were used to intentionally blur the image on a snowy day.

A reconstruction of a previous image, to increase contrast in the video screens. Photos were converted to BW and exposure was reduced, to retain detail in video screens, before combining as indicated below to give a 'pop art' vibe.

Sometimes, you just can't make reality match your imagination. I ended up here, instead.
This black No. 1A Pocket Kodak Autographic was likely made between 1926 and 1929. It was acquired by my grandmother before the great depression. I remember her saying one thing about the greatest generation during the depression: "Roosevelt saved us." Before the social security act of 1935 established welfare nationally, her state (Oklahoma) had a rudimentary program to "assist the poor and needy". She mentioned an elderly acquaintance who could not repair or even paint damaged spots in her house because an inspector might determine she was too well off to deserve the meager assistance to avoid starvation. It wasn't until then that I understood those silent comedies in which the characters hide paintings and nice furniture (by flipping it through hidden doors) to appear poor for a visiting government official. It is worth remembering that these state mandated programs failed completely at the onset of the great depression, and might not have been replaced without federal action.
The Muchnic house has curved windows in its tower. I imagined a B&W abstract of cube in this setting might be pleasing, but neglected to orient the cube for best results. Thus it remains in color. This toy cube has non-standard colors, including pastel-like pale blue and pink.
Processing note: This camera needs noise reduction. I used DXO prime.

Utata's Iron Photographer Challenge 302 requests:
1. A Tub (washing machine)
2. A Warming Beverage (cocoa, albeit blown out)
3. A large area of negative space (subjectively large)
slow shutter speed, large aperture, camera close to the ground and movING towards the subject makes a poor "man's dolly shot", giving a kinetic feel to foreground elements while directing attention to the central area of greatest sharpness. The effect is similar to a zoom blur (poor man's zoom blur?) but can be accomplished when auto focus can't be disabled.
This foggy morning dew condensed on the screen.. This image was edited in Adobe lightroom then in Topaz Restyle a cross-processed color palette was applied

I was inspired to look for different colored cross process looks after reading Singleelderly's wonderful Cross-processing color guide.
I wandered around on Friday with a Thursday walk state of mind.
A "Daidoish" preset was applied (contrast 90+, clear view 50+, blacks -40 or less, tone curve adjusted to crush blacks and blow highlights)

I was walking downtown during a heavy downpour (e.g., a frog strangler). The rain splashed so heavily that a low perspective saw only a white band of water, seeming to float just above the street surface.
The title was suggested by Ken Lunders in a comment on another image.
Technical Details
Auto ISO, -0.3EV, and F4.0 apeture were selected to encourage faster shutter speed (1/80s) on this not-so-fully-manual camera. Straightening, cropping, and color balancing were followed by contrast enhancement, using Topaz Restyle to partially replace (blend) the color palette with one from a high contrast, cross-processed Kodak Elite chrome image I admire.

A boldly fluorescent 1-inch rubber ball, on a shrink wrapped stack of fluorescent 3x3 post-it notes, lighted from above by a UV light.
I experimented with these objects until my eyes became annoyed with the glare, culled the images, then checked the promising ones. This most closely approximated what was intended but then the flaws grew to dominate the impression: plane of focus wasn't exactly right and that bit of fuzz on the ball grew into the dominant feature. As Michael Perkins mused over a self-described failure, "Close, but no cigar!".
This grief festered for a while until, reading Greg Fallis's ponderings on an old image, I tried similarly to view this image as if made by someone else. From the thumbnail, it seems like something an AI could generate - except for the imperfections. The near reflection is a warped by a slight wrinkle in the plastic, made by scootching the camera around. The focus point is actually behind the base of the ball, on the sharp contrast purple/yellow border, rather than at the base as I had imagined. This fortuitously and pleasantly aligns with the reflection seen on the ball. And there's that bit of fuzz is just close enough to the plane of focus to be resolved. No generative software does that quite yet. Whilst thinking about this someone wandered in and complimented the design, much like in Michael's case.
Later, when falling asleep for the night, it occurred to me that maybe the real product may be as interesting as the goal not-quite-achieved. The next morning offered a fresh perspective on my fuzz "portrait". Recreating a similar image would be impossible - imagine finding a microscopic bit of fuzz, sticking it on a ball, keeping the ball from rolling, and getting it all in the camera-selected plane of focus. I'm starting to like that fuzz just like it is.
Fortuitous coincidence: The 21 day Flickr birthday photo challenge "bold" had me initially thinking of fluorescent things glowing garishly under UV light. This coincidentally intersected with the Macro Mondays 2/17/2025 theme "multicolor". GMT is 6 hours ahead of my time zone, so my 2-10-25 night was already 2-11-25 morning in the UK.
Second fortuitous coincidence: learning that morning red light exposure improves color vision. The treatment enhances mitochondrial function.

I ran across this camera in a box I was cleaning. The shutter is sticky but still fires. The requisite film cartridges have not been manufactured in 30 years (or so).
Christmas eve brought a full moon and intermittent clouds, here beside the Trinity Episcopal church. Multiple light sources of varied temperatures made the scene more colorful.

I discovered a word in Japanese meaning light filtering through trees (木漏れ日 or komorebi) and imagined a similar construct for sunlight filtering through a bridge might work here (橋漏れ日 or hashimorebi). Feel free to suggest corrections if this offends your sense of language, rather than sounding like slang.

The rear stair of the Muchnic gallery is a tiny spiral, with an almost vertical handrail, that rises three floors to the attic ballroom. It is forbidden to tread, but some windows meagerly light portions for the photographer. This confusing perspective best captured the spiral of the wall and ceiling, for me.

The macro Mondays prompt for 6-08-26 is "textures", so I explored the lunar surface of a zested, dessicated lemon.
