Chandelier (electric) approx. height 5ft. Interior gate.

Side by side, hand in hand

Or walking their separate paths,

Their fire burns bright and

Lights the way for those that follow.

For Utata's Weekend Project:"Dashes" {7th May dash 21st May)

This was shot blind - the camera screen was invisible in the glaring sun, precluding better arrangement (orientation) of the metal elements. I could only make out the dash-seeming highlights in the glare, so continued until this point.

This Agfa camera, made between 1959-1969, recommends using Isopan SS, which was discontinued late in the sixties or early in the seventies. This roll expired in 1969.

I was reminded of this vintage pair by Michael Perkins' image titled "Chromatic" Some modern films still indicate DIN as a number followed by the degree symbol.

From here to there

with a purity in the air,

This open-air waystation

allows a moment of quiet respite.

When time to go

most travelers move slow,

As this vaulted monument

brings awe, architectural delight.

Chasing splashes with a low perspective on a rainy day.

Crispy processing note:

The RAW was contrast enhanced by a Daidoish curve adjustment, to crush black and blow highlights, microcontrast and fine contrast increased to about +30, exposure increased to about +0.80.

The title is a lyric, from John Fogerty and Creedence Clearwater Revival, that captures the mood at the time.

Three images of a moving subject, taken with a moving camera, aligned on the person then stacked.

For Utata's Weekend Project:"Dashes" {7th May dash 21st May)

1. The book you purchased most recently.

2. A leaf, or more than one, but not a whole tree-full.

3. 4x5 (aka 8x10) aspect ratio

Point of focus fell just outside frame (to right) after shifting to include more stair as someone unexpectedly walked into frame.

I have been working on my fabric version of an old mill at Paisley, Ontario...in the four weeks since Christmas.... and it is likely finished ( though there may yet be be a small addition...not always easy to decide when enough is enough....)

It's a northern thing, I think. In summer, I have once seen a person standing in drive through line for coffee - even though gas station coffee is available across the street.

Taken for Utata's Thursday walk project.

One rainy day in Sinaia I hunted raindrops with the high speed mode on this camera.

A pinecone was selected as a dark foreground element so that proper exposure will force the background into overexposed or high key lighting style.

The Muchnic house is empty of (most) furniture except a little alcove off the great room on the second floor. Victorian parlour games were for groups of people but played indoors. For a group, it could be speed cubing. This cube has non-standard colors, making it effectively a toy.

Three images were registered on a moving subject then stacked.

Integration signal to noise reduction (SNR) reinforces locally similar elements of the immobile subject, sharpening them, while weakening dissimilar background elements (e.g. elements out of register).

Shooting parameters are a little uncertain:

File info indicates f/3.6, 1/1600s, ISO320, 16mm

Fuji's RawFileConverter says f/4.0, 1600s, ISO400, 23.8mm

Hand-held images on a dim evening are usually bad with the Fuji X-S1. Here, the loss of detail is almost acceptable.

Contrast was enhanced with Topaz Restyle (Dingy Attic preset, 30% normal blending mode)

Pedestrian crossing the street, in front of a fence in Dinkytown, was viewed via a subtractive filter Harris shutter effect (subtractive filter HSE, SFHSE), constructed from three sequential images.

Pop-Artified:

Background dehanced and desaturated to emphasize textured figures.

Details

A modified Harris Shutter Effect image generates colored "ghosts" on a black background. Things that move and other differences between three more-or-less sequential photos are emphasized while static features turn black. Weak colors and soft blacks made more intense by modifying brightness in HSV space. Seemingly coincident cars are actually different vehicles on the rapidly traveling train.

That path that we take defines us.

The branches we follow confines us.

The decisions we make binds us.

The people we follow blinds us.

But, until we reach the end,

the full story hasn't been written.

There is no song of our lives,

no ballad without edits or revision;

As we push forward

down that misty road that guides us.

Kids take the sidewalk while parents roll in the street.

This image reminded me of the nebulously defined aesthetic of Felt Life before its founder and several admins abandoned the group and, in many cases, Flickr. There are now 345,000 images in the pool - many of them simply dumped. But if you head back to circa 2007 images (now around page 2900) you can have a glimpse of what was intended.

Utata's Iron Photographer challenge 240 asked for compositions with:

1 - a card (ace)

2 - a small figurine (is a non-functional robot too much license?)

3 - square format

As the firmament spins around us

and seasons change,

Think on this:

People come and people go,

the outrage on the media

is both constant and

everchanging.

We can endure. We can flourish.

Or we can whither on the vine.
