Best viewed large. One of the cattle egrets at Audubon Park, New Orleans, Louisiana. Bubulcus ibis.

A mid day shot in very bright light and dark shadows in the background. I used a little negative exposure to keep from blowing out the white bird and this almost turned the BG black.

To shoot these white birds in bright light I have to spot focus on the bird with a small bracket and also use spot exposure feature on the camera and then under expose -.3 to -.7 ev. and sometimes -1.0 ev. My Nikon will allow me turn on flashing highlights on the back of the camera and show me if I have overexposed the whites. If I don't do this and have the camera set to expose for the central area or average across the full frame then I will almost always blow out the whites in this intense light.

Out of a sea of lavender. Birds are eating the lavender, which signals to me the middle of summer! :( Enjoy!

After being sidelined for three weeks by a health problem then a minor injury, I am grateful to have had such a beautiful summer's day to get back to being able to take my daily walk on the path by the river near my home. It's not a great photo, but being able to walk in the the warm breeze and the cool shade after missing it for so many days filled me with gratitude. Thanks for stopping by.HFF📷

One of the historic buildings that now make up the Tomball Museum in Tomball, Texas is this one-room schoolhouse. The structure, originally built in the Bellville area about a hundred years ago, typifies the school buildings common to rural Texas in the early 20th century. The single room accommodated children from first grade through the eighth grade level at the same time.

Since ancient years when it was still called Black Snake, one of the oldest interracial clubs in Second Life, now known as The Snake, will close on 1 August (2016). We were open for more than 6 years.

I feel sad because many nice things have happened in this place, I met many nice people and have made many many naughty and fun things.

I thank everyone who ever helped keep the place open, they are many and I will not remember all. All the dancers, Managers, Securities, Landlords, Customers and Friends.

But unfortunately due to lack of sponsorship and unfair competition for customers and good staff, we are forced to close our doors.

The club was never a place to earn Lindens, it was a place to Roleplay and to have fun, never forcing anyone to work harder than to have fun, and so is the end of a beautiful dream.

Thank you all and see you around.

With love

Just back from a lovely sunny long weekend in London. However, it wasn't all sunshine as a rainstorm barrelled its way down the Thames but with the rain came some great lighting!

Did a little light painting!

Hope you like this in mono.

When the night shows

the signals grow on radios

All the strange things

they come and go, as early warnings

Stranded starfish have no place to hide

still waiting for the swollen Easter tide

There's no point in direction we cannot

even choose a side.

I took the old track

the hollow shoulder, across the waters

On the tall cliffs

they were getting older, sons and daughters

The jaded underworld was riding high

Waves of steel hurled metal at the sky

and as the nail sunk in the cloud, the rain

was warm and soaked the crowd.

In case your interested here's a sample of my convoluted workflow:

1. +2,0,-2 RAW (sometimes JPEG) files loaded into Photomatix and processed using the detail enhancer.

2. Base Photomatix Settings:

Main:

> Strength - 85 or less

> Saturation - 65

> Light smoothing - High (The further right, the more realistic)

> Luminosity - 0 (adjust based on the picture)

Tabs:

Tone

> White point - 2% (adjust up/down based on picture)

> Black point - .5% (adjust up/down based on picture)

> Gamma - 1.00 (adjust up/down based on picture)

Color

> Temp - 0

> Highlights - 3

> Shadows - 0

Micro

> Contrast - 10

> Smoothing - 15

S/H

> Highlights - 18 (adjust up/down based on picture)

> Shadows - 18

> Clipping - 18

The light smoothing is the most powerful adjustment, so play with that setting first then adjust the others until you get the right look,

If your sky is a dull gray increase the S/H tab, “Highlights” up a bit

If you have to much light “halos” increase your “Luminosity” and the “White Point” settings.

3. Save as a TIFF file.

4. Open in "The Gimp" and re-size (save as____.tiff)

5. Make a layer copy.

6. Do an auto "levels" and see what it does, if it's cool I'll merge it down if not I'll play around with the setting and opacity then merge.

7. Make another layer copy.

8. Use the "local contrast enhance" script at about 50%, then adjust the opacity to fine tune it, then merge it down.

9. Make another layer copy.

10. Use the "vivid color" script and play with the opacity to fine tune it, then merge it down.

11. Save (still as a tiff) and close the picture.

12. Open in Photoshop (I have and old version and only use it to run the Topaz plug-ins)

13. Run the Topaz Adjust plug-in filter and see what the various presets do.............

14. Run the Topaz Denoise filter.

15. Save (still a tiff)

16. Open the original file (unaltered JPEG or RAW) in "The Gimp"

17. Re-size this to match the modified tiff file (don't worry about keeping the aspect ratio)

18. Drag the modified tiff file in as a layer (it will completely hide the unmodified version) then merge it down, this will recover the lost EXIF information.

19. Use the "smart eg sharpen" script at default settings (it makes it own layer copy) then play with the opacity to fine tune it, then merge it down.

20. Do a "save as" as a jpeg, and it's ready for Flickr!

I really miss summer. It's getting cold, but on the other hand I actually love winter, although it might be a little too cold outside to take photos, but I'll do it anyways! :D

a coincidence of a high flying plane and some power cables. Normally, interactions between planes and power cables are probably not recommended. This time it seemed to work.

The most beautiful sight I've ever seen that The #crepuscularrays were really elegant in that moment. And the three parts of clouds near the center seemed like three #sheep jumping under the #sunset, especially the left part was the most approximate one.

While visiting different countries, one of my loves is finding and photographing alleys and doors. While visiting the old town in San Juan, Puerto Rico, I captured this scene while walking around the area. I love the small alley and colorful homes and apartments.

When a boy like me meets a girl like you

Then I must believe wishes come true

I just look at you and I touch your hand

And this ordinary world becomes a wonderland

There are many girls I have met before

But I pass them by because I knew

There would be this magic moment,

One to last a lifetime through

When a boy like me meets a girl like you
