Clock Tower of Graz (Grazer Uhrturm)

(Yes I know, 100.000 people already made a picture which is for one hundered percent identical to this one...)

Something isn’t quite right here. What is odd about the face of the clock tower of Graz? A faulty city emblem? No way! Anyone taking a longer look will spot it readily; here time has a different priority. Hours count for more than minutes, and justifiably so, because the area beneath the clock tower is magical and, if you turn round and let your gaze wander over the gardens and city, you will also know why.

The fortified medieval tower got its present shape around 1560. And its characteristic wooden gallery as a fire station. Three bells are ringing from the Clock Tower. Three coats of arms decorate the walls.

A tower on this spot of the hill was first mentioned in the 13th century. When the fortress was reconstructed in the middle of the 16th century, the tower was given its present shape. The hands on the huge clockfaces often confuse people. Is the clock out of order? No. The fact that originally there were only long hands for the hours which could be seen from the distance, and that those for the minutes were added only later caused the "swapping" of the hands. The clockworks, made by Michael Sylvester Funck in 1712, are still working but have been driven electronically since the middle of the 20th century. When there was fire in the city the fire bell informed the fire brigade about it.

An unidentified Virgin East Coast class 91 propels a London bound service over Durham viaduct on the afternoon of Sunday 3rd July.

With the classic view of the viaduct from Wharton Park is now almost completely obscured by trees it now seems to be a better option to photograph trains from the city side of the viaduct. The terraced streets below provide a number of opportunities for an interesting shot.

With only the number "2" remaining on the front end to provide a clue to its identity, 60082 'Mam Tor' heads out of Knuckle yard and onto the South Wales mainline. Taken circa 1998. Canon EOS3, EF85mm F1.8, Fuji Superior 400.

7 Days of Shooting - Week #19 (w/b 12th November) Numbers: This week we are looking for numbers. That's numerics please, not a number of items. From 0 to infinity ... that gives you plenty of scope :)

Another photo from the way back archives taken with that first little point and shoot digital camera.

Amtrak train number 6, the eastbound California Zephyr pulls to a stop adjacent the former Rio Grande depot in Grand Junction as the head end crews swap and brief on the platform. Sitting adjacent in the west yard is the BNSF local power consisting of a Heritage II painted GP60M. The yellow brick tile roof building at right is a former D&RGW office building that is surprisingly young, having been built in 1950 in a style and color to match the 1906 Union Station that sits just to the west blocked by the Zephyr. The long empty station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and it and this office are being restored to anchor a redevelopment project in the historic lower downtown area. Can you find the exit?

A number of changes were made in 14th century, including the top of the tower (upper circular and octagonal section), changes to the tower arch which is now tall and pointed, addition of the Galilee porch, and rebuilding of chancel with its dado of flushwork, south arcade and aisle, a transept or chapel whose archway is now blocked with brick and piscine. The porch is Victorian.

The church was saved by local people when it was threatened with closure. The building is now a Grade one listed building.

We had a clear day Saturday and in the evening, we went out with friends and anchored in the Severn River and had a picnic dinner. It was delightful. We got back just as it was getting to be fully dark.

A number of transfers took place at the end of 2020 with various vehicles being exchanged between Arriva Southern Counties, Arriva Midlands and Arriva Yorkshire. This particular vehicle was transferred south from Wigston (Arriva Midlands) to Maidstone (Arriva Kent & Surrey) in exchange for an Enviro 400 during December 2020.

Still wearing the old Sapphire livery but devoid of route branding, Arriva Kent & Surrey 6147 TUI 7940 is seen on Woolley Road, Senacre Wood whilst working route 85. Tuesday 9th March 2021.

From yesterday, this house which lies next to Bournemouth Gardens caught my eye (I like the deco shape), and lovely autumnal trees!

Couldn't resist doing this one - that sunflower was destined to be a litle star and it reminds me of being overly tall when I was a child ;-)

the overnight North Star between Chicago and Duluth crossed the Mississippi River departing Minneapolis at 820 AM on April 20 1981 on what was the old Northern Pacific double track passenger line Third Terminal Subdivision between 35th Ave in Northtown and 1st Street North in Minneapolis. It later became part of the Burlington Northern Minnesota Division Fifth Subdivision and was used by Amtrak as a through route until April, 1981 when their trains to Midway Station were rerouted via Park Junction.

The number 17 is often indicated as being a lucky number. While my birthday falls on a 17th, I don't think it has brought me extra luck, but maybe I just don't know. What it means in these skiffs I have no idea.

This car was one of the vehicles on display at the Heritage Motor Centre's Roadshow at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1995. Known as 'Old Number One', it's not the first MG to be built, but apparently it's the first one to be built with the purpose of competing in motor sports events. The Morris Cowley bullnose origin of the car is evident and you can read here the MG Owners' Club story of the car.

When the British Leyland Motor Corporation was set up in 1968 it was decided to find out how many old vehicles were held by the various companies which were part of the new Corporation. Nearly 100 were found and in 1975 Leyland Historic Vehicles was formed to maintain this fleet of vehicles. The British Motor Heritage Trust was formed in 1983 which then led to the Heritage Motor Centre museum at Gaydon being opened in 1993. In 2000 the trust expanded to include the whole of the British motor industry and the museum now has a collection of nearly 300 vehicles, and after a major refurbishment in 2015/16 it reopened as the British Motor Museum.

I finally managed to get out with my camera yesterday for the first time in nearly a month. For a while now I've been wanting a shot of 'the batman building' as everyone refers to it as, but on of the whole building. Whenever you see this building you always see a shot looking upwards - in fact similar to my last post (Number 7).

The problem is to get all of the building without all the surrounding buildings you need to be around 10mm and the distortion on the verticals then becomes extreme - which is sometimes ok - but not in this case. So I went about this shoot like my recent shot of Canary Wharf shot - stitching two heavily vertically corrected landscape shots together as a vertorama - the result was then cropped square for isolation - the surrounding buildings are just out of frame. Its taken a lot of processing but its what I've had in my mind for a while. No long exposure this time, the security guards were on the prowl so didn't have time to setup properly.

Number 28 of my 100 shots for the group 100x the 2014 edition. My 'x' is black & white.

Cleaning up my hard-drive I came across this and the next shot from back in April that I didn't get around to processing at the time. Pretty happy because I need the numbers for my 100X

This little number that isn't that little really needs a little to make it fit. I've had this dress some time and it never got worn because it was too small and pulled in all the wrong places and so it got forgotten about.

That until the other day when I pulled it out of the closet. Problem is now its gone the other way and it too big :-(

It needs to be taken in across the boobs for a good fit. however that didn't stop me wearing it last nice to have a little dance.
