The metal tube on the lower right contains rats poison; the plastic water bottle supposedly keeps away dogs from peeing on it!
That yellow color is called Maria Theresa Yellow, from the 18th Century Austrian Empress. It was widely used on the buildings around her vast Empire, and still is occasionally. The Pantone reference is: Ral 1023.
I found this image looking back over my old images. I like this shot because through the effective use of selective colouring you can really manage to capture the contrast between old and new, and I think I managed to do that quite well.
Another aspect of the image I like is the sense of mystery it creates. What can you find behind the door? Who is living there? The answer to these questions is up to the observer .

"My Harvest Home" (1835) is one of John Glover's most popular paintings. To me it is the one with most photographic compositional elements - even though photography didn't arrive in the colony until 1841. See how he creates those sun rays there just above the hay wagon. And those shadows. This is precisely the way most photographers would set the scene.
The painting is made on his property at "Patterdale Farm" Mills Plains in northern Tasmania. Here we see convicts at work, as Glover would have been assigned a number of convicts as farm labourers.

Number 54 is the male California condor who was guarding the nest these days near the Navajo Bridge in Marble Canyon, Arizona. Nearly extinct by the 1980s, captive bred California condors were reintroduced in the Grand Canyon in 1996, hoping they will settle back again in the area. They are the largest flying land birds in North America.

VBG Verkehrsbetriebe Glattal AG: this public company, owned by the affected municipalities and the canton of Zürich, operates local public transport in the Glattal and Furttal regions, as well as in the Effretikon/Volketswil area. VBG only plans and implements the transport offer, but the services are subcontracted to different operators, under a common brand image.

This was taken a number of years back when we still lived in Wisconsin. I was just getting started with photography and loved capturing barns and farms when I could. I believe this one was located not too far from Fox Lake, Wisconsin...and as usual, it was an overcast day! Hope you enjoy!

Probably the most fascinating number of all time. Every person in this world is in the number game and wants to be number one of his / her profession, sport or club. One is the number from where the counting starts and any number multiplied by 1 is that number and everything in nature starts from one.
The Royal Aircraft Factory (RAF) was the new name in 1912 for the Army Balloon Factory, by then under civilian control. They produced a number of successful designs in WW1, of which this, the 'Scout Experimental 5a', was by far the best. The SE 5a, which entered service in 1917, has been described as the Spitfire of WW1, as it was both fast and manoeuvrable. Lead designer was Henry Folland, a famous name in British Aviation.
Although several flying replicas have been built, the one in this picture is an original - I think the only flyable original out of the 5,000 or so built - and is owned and operated by The Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden aerodrome in England.

A number of transfers took place at the end of 2020 with various vehicles being exchanged between Arriva Southern Counties, Arriva Midlands and Arriva Yorkshire. This particular vehicle was transferred south from Wigston (Arriva Midlands) to Northfleet (Arriva Kent Thameside) in exchange for an Enviro 400 on Thursday 18th December 2020.
Whilst the majority of the transferred vehicles were Volvo B7s there were six Volvo B9s which have proved to have been rather troublesome with 6200 FJ08 LVL (Northfleet) and 6203 FJ08 LYT (Tunbridge Wells) being the first to enter service on Monday 19th April 2020 nearly fours months since their journey south!
The only one of the vehicles transferred to wear the new colours and on its first day in service, Arriva Kent Thameside 6200 FJ08 LVL is seen turning off of Valley Drive into Ifield Way, Singlewell whilst working route 490. Monday 19th April 2021.

Clock Tower of Graz (Grazer Uhrturm)
(Yes I know, 100.000 people already made a picture which is for one hundered percent identical to this one...)
Something isn’t quite right here. What is odd about the face of the clock tower of Graz? A faulty city emblem? No way! Anyone taking a longer look will spot it readily; here time has a different priority. Hours count for more than minutes, and justifiably so, because the area beneath the clock tower is magical and, if you turn round and let your gaze wander over the gardens and city, you will also know why.
The fortified medieval tower got its present shape around 1560. And its characteristic wooden gallery as a fire station. Three bells are ringing from the Clock Tower. Three coats of arms decorate the walls.
A tower on this spot of the hill was first mentioned in the 13th century. When the fortress was reconstructed in the middle of the 16th century, the tower was given its present shape. The hands on the huge clockfaces often confuse people. Is the clock out of order? No. The fact that originally there were only long hands for the hours which could be seen from the distance, and that those for the minutes were added only later caused the "swapping" of the hands. The clockworks, made by Michael Sylvester Funck in 1712, are still working but have been driven electronically since the middle of the 20th century. When there was fire in the city the fire bell informed the fire brigade about it.

I remember my younger days and those wonderful paint by number art sets. There was always an image of a lily to paint!
An unidentified Virgin East Coast class 91 propels a London bound service over Durham viaduct on the afternoon of Sunday 3rd July.
With the classic view of the viaduct from Wharton Park is now almost completely obscured by trees it now seems to be a better option to photograph trains from the city side of the viaduct. The terraced streets below provide a number of opportunities for an interesting shot.
