It's been so long since I posted a food photo I think I have forgotten how! ;)

This was horrible. The "bacon" was bacon bits made from a rubbery substance. The cheese and mashed potatoes were apparently reconstituted and had no real flavor. The only real flavor was salt. It was so salty, it burned. It really burned. I couldn't eat more than a few sporkfuls and threw the rest away. Don't eat this.

 

For additional fail, the receipt identified the restaurant as the one in Wethersfield, not Hartford.

My wife worked hard to prepare a great Thanksgiving feast! We had turkey, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, corn casserole, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy, and homemade crescent rolls.

My wife made Salisbury steak, okra and mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy.

He said it is still too early in the year for meat loaf. But we've had it around the same time of year several times in the past. The weather was definitely cool enough for me.

The first night in our Hotel , we ate in the onsite restaurant .

My choice was "Steak and Ale" Pie with Mashed Potatoes , Peas and Gravy .

Slightly disappointed with my choice . 20 mins from ordering it , to its arrival . The mashed Potatoes were obviously made from a "Packet" , as they were floury and grainy . The Peas were OK , and the gravy was served in a small jug separately . Which I prefer , as you can add little or lots !

I think this is the only healthy meal I had over the holiday! However, I enjoyed family and friends so much!

 

Got to get back on track tomorrow!

For our Dinner , I cooked some Pork , with lots of gravy . Serving it with Mashed Potatoes and Marrowfat Peas .

Wednesday evening 11th-October-2023.

Trio of beef, veal and pork tenderloin on Medieval spike flambe roaster, served with mashed potatoes and several sauces for the meat (jus, salsa verde, Bernaise sauce, cafe de paris butter).

saw gordon ramsay make this dish on the f word, and was quite intrigued by the poach-then-fry method which is meant to prevent chicken breasts from drying out. it worked really well! and i even liked the mushroom sauce. and i hate mushrooms. i must try to get over that.

I spent six hours outside at the Arboretum yesterday under this glorious sun, and it still didn't feel like enough time (two hours of that was biking as part of my new self-improvement/exercise program, and that was a success!).

 

Same weather (but warmer) is expected for today.

lamb meatball, stoemp au chou (*) and a little green salad (with a simple vinaigrette & some schallots)

  

(*) stoemp is an old-fashioned Belgian dish - the typical comfort food for winter. It is basically mashed potatoes (not too smooth), with either carrots (stoemp aux carottes), cabbage (stoemp au chou), leeks (stoemp aux poireaux), Brusselssprouts (stoemp aux chous de Bruxelles), etc. You can also add lardons in it (pieces of fried bacon). And you typically eat it with meatloaf, meatball or sausage. :)

It's also known as a good way to make kids eat their vegetables against their will...
