It was originally completely built as a "dark bley" U.S. marines AV-8B, which IRL I love the look of, but hated the look of it when built in LEGO.....something to do with the way that small gaps and casting shadows effected the smooth colour and contouring.
So I thought, hang on, why when this is a British jet am I not building it in the typical British camo livery?! Well, mainly because I didnt want to do another heavily dependant sticker model (such as the camo F4, I've done that once, got it out of my system!) BUT, the use of dark green really drew my attention away from the 2 points of shadow casting that I hated on the dark grey model, so a heavy breath, lets go with the GR9 U.K. variant. Lots of decal work to be done and remodelling of parts of the plane,
Regardless of colours, there are so many sections of this build that really should not (and would not work digitally) BUT do when toying with stress and play. I wanted to get as smooth as possible, where-ever possible shaping / contours whilst retaining strength and the correct angles of the real jet.
Hope I've done it justice!
Everything works that should work, and it has delayed flashing engine beacons along with constantly lit fuselage lights and wingtips.

My Dad poses in front of a German tank during the Allied march through Europe in World War II. He went in on Omaha Beach on D Day, and, after that Longest Day, awoke the following morning only to discover that he was sleeping next to a mine field. There to greet him was General Omar Bradley, who took the time to stop and ask how he was doing. My mother first heard that he was there when she received a V-mail later, in which he wrote, "I'm in a foxhole in Normandy, I've lost my helmet and my gun. All I need now are some chartreuse curtains." Like many vets, he spoke very little about the war the whole time we were growing up, and only revealed some of his experiences to us years later. He said the hardest thing for him was seeing the effects of war on the children. I can only imagine.

Trying to get out these days is difficult again as I'm fairly busy with other things, but thought I'd pick something from the archive to post once in a while so this is what I found for now. A trip to Devon last year with Paul Forgham was fairly fruitful, although the shooting conditions were V testing at times.

Well, I am still around, but lost my mojo a bit I guess. I haven't touched my camera since my trip to St. Augustine in early May and even went as far as using my remote's batteries in my kitchen scale. Priorities... apparently photography isn't it, at least not right now.

ICEBERG est une œuvre ludique et immersive qui présente le parcours d’un iceberg, de sa descente dans les eaux polaires jusqu’à sa dissolution près du littoral méridional. Iceberg est composé d’une série d’arches métalliques lumineuses qui diffusent des sons particuliers. Organisées en tunnel, elles invitent les visiteurs à s’y engouffrer pour écouter et pour jouer de cet orgue géant dont les notes et la lumière voyagent d’un bout à l’autre de ce corridor musical. ICEBERG is a playful immersive work that tells the story of an iceberg, from its calving into Arctic waters to its final melting near a southern shore. Iceberg consists of a series of illuminated metallic arches that each produce a particular sound. Arranged as a tunnel, the arches beckon visitors to enter, listen to and play this giant organ, whose notes and light travel from end to end of the musical corridor. I built something!
In the 1990’s and up to 2005 if I remember correctly, LEGO had a small KÖF II shunter locomotive in their German location in Hohenweststedt.
I always wanted to build it, had the stickers ready for years, and during the current craze of building trains, what ifs and so on for my kid, I simply got started with it, trying to build it like I’d build an official set again.
I failed miserably.
Turns out that if you want to keep this thing somewhat correct looking, there is no way building it as a (hypothetical) LEGO set. At least not motorized (but what’s a train without a motor?).
So I gave up and built it like I used to build before I started at LEGO, heavily inspired by how Michael Jasper built his Köf III loco (probably 15 years ago, when he found that perfect ballance between fanbuilds and playability for trains: brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=161474 ) and this is what I ended up with.
There are some things that I’ve seen before, like for example the cups for lighs were first used like that by Duq I think, and although I had an alternative idea for them, I decided that I want it hillarious instead of 100% accurate. There are so many LEGO Köfs out there that it’s difficult to reinvent the wheel anyway.
It’s not too crazy buildingwise, but it would be impossible to launch in it’s current state as it’s too fragile.
Looking at pics, I’m thinking that the lower edge of the cabin should be minislopes, but it looks wrong when built, so I ended up with these bows.
I decided that I’d rather have an engine compartment and the snout three wide than that slanted nose that starts too wide, and ends too narrow, and completley wrong engine bay covers, the handrails that run along the top edge of the snout kind of help to cheat the width there a bit. I made two grilles. The yellow uses a sticker though to mask off the black edge of the plates underneath. No idea which one is better.
I didn’t forget the doors, I simply didn’t build them, it would require some tweaks and loosing the minifig, and I find trains that don’t have the space for a dude pointless. These things were shunting at snail’s speeds anyway, I doubt the doors were closed much in summer anyway.
I also deliberatley lost the two hand rails on each side of the door opening, I had them, looked dumb, made the loco wider without adding much detail, the LEGO logo would have to be smaller... Meh.
I also decided to give the running boards a wooden look, some model manufacturers make them look like wood, some don’t, I seem to see wooden planks on some of the pictures of the original, but it might aswell be rust. I don’t know.
