Homemade grissini with black sesame seeds

So I want to make yet another version of chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes. My dilemma? Australia doesn't seem to sell mini chocolate chips. And you absolutely need mini choc chips if you're making chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes; regular-sized chips are just too big for this particular purpose.

And so I set to the task of making my own mini chocolate chips. It isn't difficult at all. Melt some chocolate. Cool it until it is thick and pipeable. Spoon it into a ziploc bag, snip off a tiny piece from the corner of the bag and pipe away.

Easy.

i know it's no big deal to make peanut butter at home, but then when you're cleaning out the pantry and there's ample time, there's always edible gifts to be made for family and friends :)

red shiso juice / red perilla juice / 赤シソジュース

Usually red shiso is used for colouring pickled ume (梅干し) which I did this summer, I heard that red shiso juice is good for your health so that I tried to make them for the first time!

-Red shiso leaves 300g

-Sugar 500g

-Water 10 cups (=2,000cc)

-Vinegar 2 cups (=400cc)

1) Wash shiso leaves well.

2) Boil the water in a pot.

3) Put leaves into the pot and boil them for 5-10minutes. (red leaves turn to green!)

4) Strain the juice and remove shiso leaves.

5) Put the juice back into the pot and back to the boil.

6) Add sugar and boil until the sugar is dissolved.

7) Add vinegar (the color turned to bright red!) and cool them down.

...and now ready to drink!

Mix with water or soda (1:2 ~ 1:3)

It's so refreshing especially in a hot summer day !!!

I am a serious toast-for-breakfast kind of a gal. This homemade English muffin recipe...Oh, it is SO GOOD!

Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, with all the nooks and crannies to hold the melted butter. Oh yeah, they're THAT good! :^)

Did my first enlarging in 30 years yesterday.

It was a bit damp outdoors so spent the day making a lightbox for my monster 4x5 camera to see if it would work as a 4x5 enlarger.

Not a bad result although the light is a little uneven so needs a bit of refining.

I made this sketch box by gluing empty half pans into this empty first aid kit. I used rubber cement, which is non-permanent, so that I can change out the pans later if I want. When closed, the outside dimensions are 3.5" x 4" (10 x 11 cm).

The eight half pans are filled with artists-quality tube paints, featuring both a warm and a cool of the primaries plus two earth tones as follows:

1. Hansa Yellow Medium (Daniel Smith)

2. New Gamboge (Daniel Smith)

3. Scarlet Lake (Winsor & Newton)

4. Permanent Alizarin Crimson (Holbein)

5. Ultramarine Light (Holbein)

6. Peacock Blue (Holbein)

7. Raw Sienna (Holbein)

8. Burnt Sienna (Daniel Smith)

All you need to make this DIY spot cooler is a bucket, some PVC pipe, a fan, and ice, reusable ice packs, and a frozen gallon jug of water—the homemade air conditioner was able to lower the temperature of a small room by only 2° to 3° F, and within 30 minutes the room temperature began to rise again.

The frozen jug of water was the best for cooling, apparently because it allows enough air to circulate around the jug to sufficiently cool it. And while the ice cubes initially produced the lowest air temperature, once they started melting the temperature measured outside the duct (pipe or cup) wasn’t much different than the room temperature. Again, the room temperature began to rise in 30 minutes.

I love to make meatloaf and this is my Mother's recipe with a twist, ground turkey! Dijon mustard and worcestershire sauce add that little something extra.

1 pound turkey

3/4 cup italian bread crumbs

1/2 medium onion

1 clove garlic

2 medium eggs

1 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. pepper

1 tsp. dijon mustard

1 tsp. worcesttershire sauce

1/4 tsp. tobasco sauce

1/3 cup catsup

1 tbsp. brown sugar

2 tbsp. olive oil

Sautee Onion finely chopped with garlic and oil on medium for about six minutes. Add everthing but the catsup and sugar to a bowl and mix well. Form into a loaf and bake at 350 for a half an hour. Combine catsup and sugar, glaze and bake for another half hour. Enjoy!

Homemade Reuben Sandwich with Corned Beef and Sauerkraut

In a food processor I assembled a pack of black beans, an onion, a few garlic cloves, a handful of oat meal, some lemon zest, salt, red hot chilli flakes, coriander, cumin, nutritional yeast and fresh parsley when I have it, I didn't have it here, though. I give it a few pulses, not too many, then let it to rest in the fridge until I'm ready for lunch. Make a few patties and fry a few minutes on each side, no oil requested.

My first attempt at making jelly. I used fresh blackberries that we picked ourselves and the results... delicious!

Fresh homemade chocolate tart with dark cherries from above

Yes, the homemade marshmallows were VERY good dipped in chocolate, but I think I liked them plain best. They were very delicate and vanilla-y and the chocolate overwhelmed the taste so much that the marshmallow mostly became just a texture. A SUPERGOOD texture, but I think I liked them most naked.
