.....Like my mom used to make. My former sister-in-law visited me last week, and as a surprise she had made me this candy like my mom always made at Christmas. It has been a number of years since I have had this, and it almost brought me to tears. One, because it really is that yummy, and two, because she had the idea and the willingness to do it. It was and is awesome.

Inspired by the dessert at Tao. It's actually not that hard to make at home using this recipe: www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/homemade-fortune-cookies/
The hardest part is shaping the cookie when it's still hot out of the oven, painful to the fingers. Mine is filled with mango mousse and garnished with fresh raspberries and kiwano melon.

Hey Flickr, it's been awhile. I need to get back on this site! It was my friend Jessica's birthday yesterday, so I made this for her :) In a bit of a creative rut, but baking and cooking has been a reliable go-to. Also my Facebook page has been staying active so be sure to follow me there!
A wholegrain wrap warmed up in the oven, spread guacamole, leftovers kale, beans & sweet potatoes, a bit of green salad and tahini sauce drizzled on top. Deliciousness !
The dough was soft, supple and very easy to work with. Once it rose and I shaped them into balls, I flattened them a little so they would have a head start with a nice round shape for the second rise. Before they went into the hot oven, a quick brushing of an egg wash makes these pale doughballs turn into glistening golden buns as they baked. If you like, before you set them in the oven, a scattering of sesame seeds would be quite acceptable for these. They are light and fluffy on the inside with a decent crust on the outside. Using milk, instead of all water, makes these very tender as well.

My grandfather built this scooter for my mom around 1940 or so in Clinton, IN. She often talked about it but I had never seen it until going through some of her old photos after she passed.
A few days ago I launched a website that shares preschoolers favorite recipes from kindergartens all over Iceland. This delicious homemade granola is one of the recipes. Unfortunately all the recipies are in Icelandic, but later on I might translate this one into English.

Paul V. is an interesting fellow who makes knives, among many things, in his old shop. Everywhere you looked, there was a story waiting to be told.
If you look in the floorboard of the old truck, you'll see fiddle and banjo cases. The story on those coming soon.
By the way, this is the owner of the 1930 Ford Model A that I posted a photo of yesterday.

Homemade christmas presents, made from vintage teacups, filled with candles and customised matchbox!!!
I made homemade yogurt last night. The Country Charm cast-iron stove turns out to be perfect -- you can set the oven to keep a temperature of 100 degrees F and then culture the yogurt overnight inside the oven. (The lowest temperature marking on the dial is 150, but it seems to be capable of doing temperatures much lower. So you turn it on until just barely past where the heating element goes on, and if you leave it there, you get around 98-102 degrees. I check it periodically to make sure it's holding steady.)
The cute little jars are from IKEA (as is the countertop, actually).

For the third year in a row, we've made cherry vodka. Compared to making wine, it is easy. It's just cherries, sugar, and vodka.
And you don't have to use cherries. You're really only limited by your imagination. And many major vodka brands make their own flavored vodka, whether apple, mint, coffee, etc.
And to be clear. While we mixed the ingredients together, we did not make the vodka. Making your own vodka is akin to gathering your own mushrooms in a field. You really want to have some idea what you're doing before you do it. Besides, you can get quality vodka cheaply here, so there is no need to do it yourself. A decent quality vodka might cost you $2 - $4 per liter.
CORRECTION: Correct price per liter of vodka starts around $5. I was obviously quoting the 1/2 liter price!
Cheers!
