Half-Moons Tessellation
front
The lighting wasn't great when I took this picture, sorry about that.
This tessellation is related to the Hexagonal Pentagons Tessellation, but instead of the center of each molecule being a closed back iso-area hex twist, here the centers around any three irregular pentagons is an open backed iso-area twist. I don't think this one is quite as aesthetical as the Hexagonal Pentagons Tessellation, but it is still interesting.

I just returned from a trip to the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, along the Caribbean side of the Yucatan peninsula. We flew into Cancun and then drove south to the small coastal community of Akumal.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't quite cooperating and for the first four days of our trip the ocean was exceptionally turbid with extreme currents. I did venture out a few times from the shores of our condo into Half Moon Bay for photo sessions but the conditions were far from ideal and left me wanting for clearer, calmer waters...
Luckily Yal Ku lagoon was right around the corner and offered a nice peaceful reprieve from the open Caribbean as were several inland cenotes. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to spend more time exploring the reefs around Akumal but the next leg of our trip, down into the Sian Ka'an preserve, provided lovely water and an incredible healthy coral reef to explore.
This photograph is from one of my forays into Half Moon Bay, looking back across thick gardens of soft corals (gorgonians) to some of the villas and condos along the shore.
Had a great time filming Photowalking 8 with Robert Scoble and a bunch of other camera geeks who spent the day with us today. Do a search for Photowalking8 and you can see most of who came out today.
We shot Half Moon Bay and Robert rented a Canon 600mm f/4 lens to play with today. It was amazing -- and also very, very, heavy. After a while I nicknamed it "The Beast".
I also purchased a 1.4 extender yesterday and used that with it a lot as well. Anyways got some great surfing shots and lots of other shots. I'll have more shots up on Flickr tomorrow as well as a blog post on my blog in the morning. In the meantime if you want to see all the shots from my shoot just click through to this set here.
Also if you want to watch past episodes of Photowalking you can do that here.

Best time to view the moon through telescope. Half moon produces great detail in the craters due to shadows.
Walking along the shoreline south of camp, I turned around to see a perfect half-moon rising over Lake Michigan through the mist. If you look closely, you can see shimmering reflections from the moon dancing on the surface of the lake. [July 2007]
Half Moon Bay is a small city on the California coast, south of San Francisco. A string of beaches along the bay includes Half Moon Bay State Beach. The Coastside Trail leads north to Pillar Point, near the huge waves of the Mavericks surf spot. Nearby, Montara Mountain rises in the protected Rancho Corral de Tierra area. The Purisima Creek Redwoods Preserve is on the slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains. ― Google
An other astrophotography of the moon, pretty the same version than the previous one nevertheless I used a Canon Eos 600 D.
We can notice that the detail of image is better with the older camera DSC-H1 , surprising ?!
The derelict and abandoned Half Moon Bay Hotel, Antigua.
The Half Moon Bay Hotel was one of the first hotels built on Antigua dating back to the late 1950’s. The resort to included a private 9-hole golf course, a tennis centre, a large swimming pool and deck area. A five-star chef was brought in to oversee food and its service, and Half Moon Bay became synonymous with quality in the Caribbean.
The mile-long white sand beach of Half Moon Bay, with its crystal water protected by a coral reef, gained the reputation as one of the finest beaches in the world -- a gift of nature tended with constant maintenance by the resort staff.
Distinguished guests and repeat visitors have included Audrey Hepburn, Elton John, Bjorn Borg, John Le Carre, Robert and Susan Massie, Boris Spassky, Vitas Gerulitis, Lord and Lady Taylor and Dan Rather.
In September of 1995, the category-five Hurricane Luis came ashore at Half Moon Bay, devastating Antigua and destroying the resort.
Unfortunately, due to politics and other factors, the resort was never rebuilt, and now stands completely abandoned.

This image was captured straight after the Holga panorama (image below on Photostream www.flickr.com/photos/61009223@N04/7055832635/in/photostream), and obviously from under the jetty, just metres from where the Holga was taken from.
Essentially the same photo, it's proven to be quite a revealing exercise for me to see how different the end results are.
First light for a new to me Tamron 1.4X AF Teleconverter. I had my Nikkor 70 - 300mm f/4.5-6.3 Lens attached. Auto-focus had a hard time focusing. Had to go manual and couldn't quite get it as sharp as I wanted it.
