Half Moon Hawk 1861?- June 25, 1876
a half moon cast sifting shadows on the plain
the night you clawed your way into the world
you grew strong and had your first kill at 15
your father’s smile made the bison’s warm heart taste even sweeter
before the beast’s hide was dry, they came
bluecoats, making strange sounds across the Little Big Horn
on your horse, beside your brother and a thousand others
you charged up that hill
where you saw his yellow hair,
you hunched slightly on your mount,
took quick aim and...
whoever killed you did not know you
or that your last vision was of a hawk flying past the moon
above the slain carcass of yellow hair
the man whose last sight was of you
killing him
Half Moon Island is a minor Antarctic island, lying in McFarlane Strait 1.35 km (0.84 mi) north of Burgas Peninsula, Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands of the Antarctic Peninsula region.
City Hall, 501 Main Street, Half Moon Bay, California. This building dates from 1922 and was originally a bank, first called Bank of Half Moon Bay, then Bank of Italy, and later Bank of America.
Half-Moons Tessellation

The lighting wasn't great when I took this picture, sorry about that.
This tessellation is related to the Hexagonal Pentagons Tessellation, but instead of the center of each molecule being a closed back iso-area hex twist, here the centers around any three irregular pentagons is an open backed iso-area twist. I don't think this one is quite as aesthetical as the Hexagonal Pentagons Tessellation, but it is still interesting.

Folded out of Cordenons' Stardream paper.
I just returned from a trip to the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, along the Caribbean side of the Yucatan peninsula. We flew into Cancun and then drove south to the small coastal community of Akumal.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't quite cooperating and for the first four days of our trip the ocean was exceptionally turbid with extreme currents. I did venture out a few times from the shores of our condo into Half Moon Bay for photo sessions but the conditions were far from ideal and left me wanting for clearer, calmer waters...
Luckily Yal Ku lagoon was right around the corner and offered a nice peaceful reprieve from the open Caribbean as were several inland cenotes. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to spend more time exploring the reefs around Akumal but the next leg of our trip, down into the Sian Ka'an preserve, provided lovely water and an incredible healthy coral reef to explore.
This photograph is from one of my forays into Half Moon Bay, looking back across thick gardens of soft corals (gorgonians) to some of the villas and condos along the shore.
Had a great time filming Photowalking 8 with Robert Scoble and a bunch of other camera geeks who spent the day with us today. Do a search for Photowalking8 and you can see most of who came out today.
We shot Half Moon Bay and Robert rented a Canon 600mm f/4 lens to play with today. It was amazing -- and also very, very, heavy. After a while I nicknamed it "The Beast".
I also purchased a 1.4 extender yesterday and used that with it a lot as well. Anyways got some great surfing shots and lots of other shots. I'll have more shots up on Flickr tomorrow as well as a blog post on my blog in the morning. In the meantime if you want to see all the shots from my shoot just click through to this set here.
Also if you want to watch past episodes of Photowalking you can do that here.
Best time to view the moon through telescope. Half moon produces great detail in the craters due to shadows.
Half Moon Bay is a small city on the California coast, south of San Francisco. A string of beaches along the bay includes Half Moon Bay State Beach. The Coastside Trail leads north to Pillar Point, near the huge waves of the Mavericks surf spot. Nearby, Montara Mountain rises in the protected Rancho Corral de Tierra area. The Purisima Creek Redwoods Preserve is on the slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains. ― Google
Taken at the Phoenix VA after a 50+ mile drive for an MRI, my backs hurting, had to to walk what I swear was a quarter mile each way to get to the imaging area as the only access is at the very opposite end of the VA thru the ER, laid on on cold hard table for 45 minutes with ear phones on that barely blocked the noise of the MRI, my back hurting even more, long walk back, had to take a rest stop and looked up and yeah there was our flag a bright glorious half moon and then I remembered Monday Veterans day and all of the men and women who gave up everything so that we could be free...thank you so much!❤

Half Moon Bay at dusk.
This image was captured straight after the Holga panorama (image below on Photostream www.flickr.com/photos/61009223@N04/7055832635/in/photostream), and obviously from under the jetty, just metres from where the Holga was taken from.
Essentially the same photo, it's proven to be quite a revealing exercise for me to see how different the end results are.
