This buck deer liked to hang out in front of our cabin. It was completely unafraid of humans.

At Thmor Da Restaurant in Revere, Massachusetts. Tasty food and friendly staff.

Hey Look I am half way though!!!

I met Jampel through a mutual friend in a local sustainable group. The group had a booth at the Mother Earth News Fair. Two days of talks about organic gardening, sustainable living, bee keeping, eating fresh, etc. I had agreed to have my home a stop on a bicycle tour to show an edible yard in the making. So Jampel and I were talking about my neighborhood which turns out was his too. We grew up in the same area, but I was 10 years older so we never knew each other. He is also a monk and it living without money. It sounds so beautiful, because we are tied to the importance of this currency so tightly we cant enjoy life unless we have it. Most of the struggles in life are tied to money, it would be so nice to be able to let go of that. I dont think I can, but the act of letting go really is inspiring, puts my own money struggles in perspective. I can buy groceries and pay my bills, I am okay. Anyway...

It was really nice meeting Jampel and I hope we do not stay strangers :) Thanks For being #50 Jampel!

A side door of one of the apartment buildings I often walk by. Sometimes I've seen people here in all the chairs and more standing around. Apparently quite a friendly, sociable group of renters.

This is probably my last PowerShot A590IS flickr picture, because late this afternoon I returned the defective camera for a full refund. The day after purchase its zoom lens started lurching uncontrollably and the playback of stored pictures often refused to work at all. The A590IS has many features I like, and a few that annoy me, most of all glare that often obscured the display (I sure have been spoiled by my the digital viewfinders in my two Olympus digital cameras). The construction on the one I happened to get felt light and shoddy, waiting for a bump or simply a little more use for the next feature to stop working. I'm sorry to give up its portability, but it didn't feel like a camera I could depend on (like my Olympus SP-550UZ, so far).

By the way, you can easily see the barrel distortion along the top edge of this A590IS shot. My SP-550UZ also has some barrel distortion, it seems hard to avoid in wide angle lenses, even those for SLRs. This A590IS picture was shot at its most wide angle, which is about the equivalent of only a 35mm lens (slightly wide angle) for a old 35mm film camera.

I got another nice shot of this friendly nora neko (stray cat) when Mari and I visited Tachikawa's Showa Kinen Park. October 23, 2007.

I have had this copper and wood finial item for some time now and still have no idea what it is. maybe its a pole head ?

if it is then this one must be rare as it is made in copper and I have only see brass ones up to now.

The copper is thin and can spin like a prayer wheel.

Friendly Society Brasses were the emblems of village Friendly Societies.

What is the Friendly society about ?

Friendly Societies provided insurance for workers before the welfare state. They served social purposes and companionship and offered to members funds for funerals, money for medical care, and sick pay. Members also participated in ceremonial parades when banners were displayed. The highlight of the year was the annual feast day. Friendly Societies were particularly strong in rural communities in Somerset during the 19th and early 20th centuries. They were carefully administered and members adhered to strict rules. Women were excluded from most 'clubs'.

Club 'brasses' were mounted on poles and used during parades. The pole heads had different motifs, often depicting symbols of friendship and community. The Huntspill Friendly Society brass comprises oak leaves and acorns, symbolising strength, longevity, Englishness, and the idea that regular small contributions can grow into something useful.

A popular saying is that 'Great oaks from little acorns grow'.

I didn't know who this dress was for when I got it, but I think it suits sweet little Jane very well :). I still think I am the only person in the whole world who loves StA EXACTLY as she is, crunchy hair and all.

Jane: My hair is . . . crunchy?

Me: Yeah, it's kind of time for a little trip to the spa again Jane.

The story:

This guy approached veeery slowly and unobtrusive pointing his Leica on me. When he realised that I know the game, he asked for a picture. Of course, I couldn't resist to shoot back...

All images colored with copics, the fish bowl is actually a stamp that I have had forever. I knew as soon as I saw these stamps it would work perfectly! I only wish I could draw, guess that is why I love stamps so much!

A fun and thoughtful little Christmas stocking gift from a friend. From the back of the "matchbox" cover:

Save the trees! We need them! Every time you remove a Tree Friendly Pencil from the pack you will be reminded of the deforestation that occurs for the things we take for granted. Made out of recycled paper, so no trees were harmed in the making of this product!
