For my next installment of photos from my trip, I combined two days: a day of train travel where I stopped in Cebere and Montpellier France; and a visit to the convent of La Tourette (another famous work of Swiss architect Le Corbusier). Hope you enjoy the set, and perhaps you should sit down for the slide show (this one isn't quite long as the lyon one)!
Flamenco, in its strictest sense, is an art form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the gitano subculture of the region of Andalusia, but also having a historical presence in Extremadura and Murcia. In a wider sense, it is a portmanteau term used to refer to a variety of both contemporary and traditional musical styles typical of southern Spain. Flamenco is closely associated to the gitanos of the Romani ethnicity who have contributed significantly to its origination and professionalization. However, its style is uniquely Andalusian and flamenco artists have historically included Spaniards of both gitano and non-gitano heritage.
The oldest record of flamenco music dates to 1774 in the book Las Cartas Marruecas by José Cadalso. The development of flamenco over the past two centuries is well documented: "the theatre movement of sainetes (one-act plays) and tonadillas, popular song books and song sheets, customs, studies of dances, and toques, perfection, newspapers, graphic documents in paintings and engravings. ... in continuous evolution together with rhythm, the poetic stanzas, and the ambiance.”
On 16 November 2010, UNESCO declared flamenco one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

The stream flowing from Bedworth Slough forms a brook which flows south, under Newtown Road, between the housing to Rectory Drive and then continues beside Silk Weavers Way to cross beneath the A444. It runs parallel to Bowling Green Lane, crossing School Lane to feed the moat of Tudor Court, beneath the M6 and thence across the fields behind St Giles Church. Here it is joined by the Breach Brook. It passes back under the A444 to Sowe Meadows Nature Park, under Rowley's Green Lane, the railway line and finally Grindle Road, where it is just visible as it is culverted beneath the housing and adjacent Coventry canal, thence across Longford Community Nature Reserve to the Longford Road. From here it emerges into the green oasis of Longford Park to exit not far from Alderman's Green Road.
The River Sowe is a river in Warwickshire and West Midlands. It is a tributary of the River Avon, and flows into it just south of Stoneleigh about 5 miles (8 km) south of Coventry. It is about 12 miles (19 km) long.
The Sowe rises in Bedworth 5.5 miles (9 km) to the north of Coventry. Its route takes it through Exhall near to Junction 3 of the M6 motorway and the A444 road, to the northern and then the eastern suburbs of Coventry, in particular the districts of Longford, Wood End, Walsgrave, Binley, Willenhall and near the village of Baginton. Near Baginton the river has a large steep bank on its southern side and the remains of the Roman Lunt Fort have been found at the top of this bank.
There is an established local park called the Sowe Valley Footpath that runs alongside the river for 8½ miles from Hawkesbury Junction Conservation Area to Stonebridge Meadows Local Nature. It also runs through Wyken Slough Local Nature Reserve, Wyken Croft Nature Park and Stoke Floods Local Nature Reserve.

Got stopped in Tower Hill tube station just before 9am in the morning... they explained to me that they were conducting random searches on members of the public under the Anti-Terrorism Act 2004. So got my bags searched, and have had to wait while they fill in this form... I was also asked about where I work, where I had arrived from prior arriving into the tube station, whether I had some form of ID with me. They had jotted down everything that I had said.
I wonder where they are going to use the information I've given? Where does this piece of paper go? I felt like I've done something wrong for being stopped... The only threat that I may cause and can think of is perhaps snoring on the train?!
This image forms part of the digitised photographs of the Ross and Pat Craig Collection. Ross Craig (1926-2012) was a local historian born in Stockton and dedicated much of his life promoting and conserving the history of Stockton, NSW. He possessed a wealth of knowledge about the suburb and was a founding member of the Stockton Historical Society and co-editor of its magazine. Pat Craig supported her husband’s passion for history, and together they made a great contribution to the Stockton and Newcastle communities. We thank the Craig Family and Stockton Historical Society who have kindly given Cultural Collections at the University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia, access to the collection and allowed us to publish the images. Thanks also to Vera Deacon for her liaison in attaining this important collection.

Formed 1.5 billion years ago from a dome of molten magma, the large granite boulders at Elephant Rocks State Park resemble a train of pink elephants. The reddish or pink granite has been quarried in this area since 1869, and has provided red architectural granite for buildings all across the country, particularly in nearby St. Louis, Missouri. Stones unsuitable for architectural use were made into paving stones that were used on the streets of St. Louis, as well as the wharf along the Mississippi River. The granite from this area is commercially known as Missouri Red monument stone.
One of the largest boulders, named “Dumbo,” measures 27 feet tall, 35 feet long and 17 feet wide, tipping the scales at a hefty 680 tons.
Elephant Rocks State Park was created in 1967 following donation of the land by geologist John Stafford, and is managed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. It is located in Iron County, Missouri, and is part of the Saint Francois Mountains, which rise over the Ozark Plateau in southeastern Missouri. This mountain range is one of the oldest exposures of igneous rock in North America. The park has a one-mile paved Braille Trail designed for people with visual and physical disabilities.

Lady Yu plays the sword to try to cheer up King Xiang Yu. When the enemy attacks again, Xiang bids farewell to Yu Ji who refuses to leave with him. Yu dances the sword dance before putting the sword to her own
throat.
Peking Opera excerpt from Mu Guiying Takes Command-Accepting the Seal. Mu Guiying is a famous female general and the granddaughter-in-law of the prominent Generals of the Yang family in the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 960– 1127). When Western Xia invades, the emperor orders a martial arts competition to select a Chief Commander. Mu Guiying, who is now retired and in her fifties, refuses to accept the seal at first. But later persuaded by the Dowager She, she decides to accept the post to defend the country.

Episode from The Monkey King. In this episode,the Monkey King causes havoc in Heaven, fighting the celestial army. He crashes the Peach Party, making all sorts of mischiefs, getting drunk, and taking all the goodies back to his Flower and Fruit Mountain where he is the true King.

Ngô Thanh Nhàn, Ph.D. Linguistics, is a fellow in Vietnamese Nôm and Folk Music Studies of the Center for Vietnamese Philosophy, Culture & Society of Temple University. Dr. Nhàn is a coordinator of the Vietnam Agent Orange Relief & Responsibility Campaign. He currently teaches đàn tranh[Vietnamese 16-string zither] at the Folk Arts–Cultural Treasures Charter School with the support of Asian Americans United. Dr. Nhàn also organizes regular hybrid đàn tranh intensive classes under Manhattan Academy of Music and Language, Inc. in New York
hosted by Mekong NYC. Dr. Nhàn will perform with Fiona Zhao.

H4T, short for Hope for Tomorrow, is a K-Pop dance cover group founded in 2019. They are a Philadelphia-based group, now with 47 members.They will be performing a variety of K-Pop choreography at the festival today!

KyoDaiko is a Philadelphia-based, community taiko group founded in 2005. The volunteer members perform for the love of the art and the energy that the great drums give them. The group performs regularly at a wide range of venues from community events, to Phillies baseball games, Japanese festivals, and more unusual settings such as roller derbies! KyoDaiko offers regular taiko classes and can be hired for events, workshops and team-building activities.

The Philadelphia Suns have performed traditional Chinese Lion Dance since our inception in 1972. This 1000-year-old cultural dance has been passed through the generations as part of martial arts training. Traditionally performed at festive occasions like grand openings, weddings, parties and other special events, a lion dance is performed to scare away evil spirits. Today, lion dances have taken on the form of a celebratory dance where acrobatic movements are performed to the rhythmic music of drum, gong, and cymbal. Our team is composed of volunteers and all funds donated go towards our programs.
