Las cariátides son las sorprendentes esculturas en forma de mujer que hacían las veces de columnas en el templo del Erecteion, en la Acrópolis. Las figuras que actualmente se pueden observar en el lugar son copias fidedignas de las originales, cuatro de las cuales se exponen en el Museo de la Acrópolis.
Según parece, el nombre de cariátide deriva de la nomenclatura con la que se conocer al pueblo de Caries, en el Peloponeso, cuyos habitantes se aliaron a los persas enfrentándose al resto de las potencias aliadas helenas en las Guerras Médicas que tuvieron lugar en el siglo V a.C. Los griegos arrasaron la villa, pasando a cuchillo a los hombres y esclavizando a las mujeres, las cuales deberían de soportar en el futuro todo tipo de carga, por pesada que fuera. Metafóricamente, las cariátides de piedra del Erecteion han de cumplir con la pena de aguantar el peso del techado del templo hasta el fin de los tiempos, condena parecida a la que padeciera el titán Atlante, bajo cuyos hombros se sostenía el mundo.

She is just so fun to shoot pictures of, everyone should have a corded poodle.
As you can see it is a little hazy, the smoke from the forest fires in Quebec that are over 500 miles away has made it to NH. It is a little hard to breathe, but the good thing is that it is going to make it a little less hot today, probably only in the 70's rather in the 80's, so there is an upside. Firefighters from all over Canada and from New England are in Quebec helping. There are 57 fires in Quebec of them 14 are out of control, I sure hope they get rain, and get them under control soon.
I have to interrupt the preparations for my dinner to take a quick image. I'm always surprised about the creativity of nature.
