It seems that I had to try my hand at panning as "fast" was this week's them paired with a push by the very skilled JTPhoto2010 who gave me the following:
"For your push, I will also offer options:
1) Panning shot of a fast moving object or person.
2) The 36 shot challenge. Take 36 consecutive shots, like when we shot 36 exposure film. Do not delete any shots in your sequence. The Only editing allowed is curves. Post all 36 shots to your photo stream. Put contact sheet with all 36 and your favorite into the Push/Challenge group.
Good Luck and I look forward to seeing what you create. "
It took a bit longer to get the push done as I needed to wait on a willing grandchild to provide the fast moving object. Without a panning head for my tripod I wore her out and really had only one keeper. While it's not perfect it's the best of the bunch.

While kayakfishing in the wild .I spotted this on the rock .at first thought it was a dead bird...Tiny pup seal fast asleep just enjoying the first rays..At that time temperatures were just above 3C..Awesome..

My first opportunity in a while to get the camera lineside and I only managed this by multi-tasking. Checking RTT before running an errand to Castleford, found my return home would coincide nicely with a Freightliner Scunthorpe Coal Plant to Hunslet Yard working.
With 10 minutes to spare I stopped by the side of the A639 at Methley Junction, a couple of Northern Pacer units passed and just as an experiment I tried a burst of panning shots, the results didn't look too bad on the back of the camera (not good enough to upload though). Anyway, I could play it safe or try a pan shot on the rapidly approaching Freightliner and here is the answer, I fired off about 10-15 shots and to my surprise a couple came out in reasonable focus.
For the record 66606 passes Methley Junction, running about 10 minutes late with 4E71 the 07:50 Scunthorpe Coal Handling Plant to Hunslet Yard.
