Ishoro Honda's 1962 film King Kong vs Godzilla is the first to tell the story of an encounter between these two monsters.
Godzilla has been frozen in an iceberg but is awoken through nuclear heat. At the same time an evil Japanese busines man transports King Kong to Japan from the Pacific island where he has been considered a monkey god.
The two monsters meet twice, King Kong eventually saving Japan by drowning Godzilla before escaping to sea, swimming towards his beloved island.
The film's special effects have a certain period charm, as have the various communications devices used in this film.

VA’s annual Brain Trust summit offers platform for innovations in brain health and head trauma
From a software platform for traumatic brain injury to a virtual reality device that assists Veterans with behavioral health issues, 15 competitors pitched a diversity of ideas during demo day at the Brain Trust: Pathways to InnoVAtion summit, hosted by VA on May 18 in Boston. The annual two-day event assembled more than 350 invited participants from the federal government, private industry, professional sports, medical research, caregivers and Veteran communities to collaborate and advance discussions around the prevention and treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and concussion. “We have an unbelievable opportunity to accelerate the speed of change,” said retired Army Lt. Gen. Patricia Horoho, CEO of Optum Military and Veterans Group, to the 15 industry and academic innovators who had come to pitch their ideas on TBI and head trauma to a panel of judges. “Today, the impossible gets challenged.”After reviewing a series of short presentations from competitors, the judges selected three winners: The Daptly Display, a gesture and voice-controlled assistant for the home or office; Save a Warrior: A peer-to-peer, archetypal approach for healing combat trauma and moral injury; and Recovery Acceleration Program for mild TBI by King-Devick Technologies. The winners will have the potential opportunity to implement and deploy their innovations with VA. “We feel incredibly honored to be selected as a winner of the VA Innovation awards, which will further our opportunity to provide services to our Veterans,” said Steve Devick, CEO of King-Devick Technologies, who explained how his project would help Veterans impacted by TBI. “The King-Devick technologies innovations are related to the fact that eye movements and vision are responsible for approximately 55 percent of brain function. “As a result, implementing our recovery acceleration program by involving these pathways leads to faster concussions and TBI recovery when used with standard remediation. Additionally, caregivers can measure defects in eye movements, which may lead to dosage changes in chronic degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. ” During the event, VA officials announced key partnerships with several influential organizations, including: Amazon, which donated 100 Echo devices with Alexa voice service to VA’s Assistive Technology Labs to help meet the needs of Veterans; Cohen Veterans Bioscience, which is coordinating efforts with VA to integrate data across dozens of labs to facilitate breakthroughs in trauma-related disorders; Booz Allen Hamilton; Comcast; Concussion Legacy Foundation; GE; IBM; Infinite Hero Foundation; Johnson & Johnson; Optum; Outward Bound; PenFed Foundation, Philips; the Warrior Care Network and the National Institutes of Health, which is co-hosting a ‘State of the Science’ workshop in 2018 that will focus on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy and other neurodegenerative diseases. Three M.A.D. (Magnetic Acoustic Devices) from HPV Technologies (www.getmad.us), during a demo for military, law enforcement, and government tech experts from the US and abroad, at Edwards Air Force Base in Palmdale (Sep 1, 2005). The devices are capable of broadcasting a highly focused, "laser-like" beam of sound in such a way that it is intelligible for a mile or more. The event was organized by the LA Sherriff's Department, which is considering using the devices for civil unrest and disaster communications. A donated device will be shipped to authorities in Mississippi for those purposes this week.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

‘Unique’ bird migration discovered
A tracking device which weighs less than a paperclip has helped scientists uncover what they say is one of the world’s great bird migrations. It was attached to a red-necked phalarope from Scotland that migrated thousands of miles west across the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. The journey has never before been recorded for a European breeding bird.
The red-necked phalarope is one of the UK’s rarest birds, and is only found in Shetland and the Western Isles. For more information on this ‘unique’ migration: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-25661650
Red-necked Phalarope use many coastal areas, like the recent Coastal Grant recipient in Harpswell Maine (www.fws.gov/gomcp/) as stopover habitat during their migration. FAO in Somalia is continuously finding new ways to mitigate the effects of desert locusts on local communities. The Great Limerick Run 2015 (Marathon, Half Marathon, Relay, and 6 Mile) races were held in Limerick City, Ireland on Sunday 3rd of May 2014 starting at 09:00. This was a very large mass participation event which is now firmly established on the Irish running calendar. These are a set of a photographs from: the start of the marathon, the mile 2 mark of the mark, the half way point of the marathon (to about a 3:40 finishing time), a selection from mile 20 of the marathon. These sets of photographs will not include every competitor. A bit of a misleading title i'm afraid. This wonderful bit of vintage engineering is actual a part of the mechanism for spit-roasting meat! The scale of the device is staggering, quite capable of supporting a whole pig! The unit mounted in the kitchen above the solid fuelled cooking range at Saltram House, Near Plymouth, Devon.
This device tests the various PC boards throughout the train. It doesn't tell them what's wrong -- just says that it's not working properly.

Beggar Robot is a robot for the materially deprived and is constructed entirely from old computer hardware and a few spare parts that were obtained at no cost. As a low-tech, friendly device, it advocates three main ideas in contemporary activism. “Food Simulator” is a device that can imitate not only how a foodstuff tastes but also its consistency and the sound it makes in your mouth.
In the device on exhibit here, a foil-like pressure sensor in the user’s mouth simulates resistance to chewing. Other models of the “Food Simulator” feature a built-in dispenser and atomizer that also simulate the particular foodstuff’s taste and aroma. The sound made by biting into the real foodstuff is recorded in advance with a bone vibration microphone and played back synchronized to the user’s chewing movements to simulate the sound of eating the real thing.

In Critical Assembly (1998-2003), Jim Sanborn has re-created the moment in 1945 when human beings first fashioned a practical device powered by nuclear fission. It was called the "gadget" We know it today as the Trinity bomb. When it exploded on July 16 in the New Mexico desert, it permanently changed the human condition.
The place Sanborn takes us to is Los Alamos, in the 1940s a secret town known to the outside world only by its mailing address, Post Office Box 1663, Santa Fe, New Mexico. The scene is a small building in an isolated canyon, far enough from other buildings to contain the radiation. On the tables are "criticality experiments," their purpose to determine how much plutonium 239 can be packed into a bomb for maximum yield without making the bomb unsafe to handle.
Electronic instruments, hardware, furniture, tools and materials used by the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory during the 1940's and 1950's were acquired by the artist during a six year period from a variety of sources including Lab employees (some of whom had originally made or designed them) These employees had bought these objects many years later as surplus materials at public sales carried out by the Laboratory. Any materials the artist was unable to collect in Los Alamos he machined and fabricated himself.
Plutonium and highly enriched uranium are very unstable metals. If the scientists placed too much of either material in one place it would spontaneously fission or "go critical" causing a tremendous burst of radioactivity that would kill everyone in the immediate area. Conversely if too little material was used to make a bomb it would not detonate at all. This is not to say that sub-critical masses were non-hazardous, in fact they were extremely dangerous. At any given time several of the experimenters tables held a highly radioactive sub-critical mass and a hemispherical reflector (the tables were kept far enough away from each other to reduce the chance of a fission event). The sub-critical masses on the tables were so close to criticality that the reflective properties of the human hand could cause a dramatic rise in radioactivity and the scientists frequently played tunes on the ever present sound of the Geiger counters.
In the late 1940's the scientists at the Lab referred to these experiments as "tickling the tail of the dragon" and the table top work was done with very little personal radioactivity shielding. After 1950 these criticality experiments were done using robotic arms controlled from shielded rooms.
The "Physics Package" as it was called of the "Fat Man" bomb (the one dropped on Nagasaki Japan and tested earlier in Southern New Mexico) is depicted on two metal tables in this installation.
Evocative of both the brilliance of the collective human mind and the potentially devastating power of knowledge, this installation is about the allure of pure science and the ethical dilemmas scientific researchers have faced for decades.
In its current location on Cordova and Bute. Apparently this artwork is being removed due to complaints from religious groups and surrounding condo owners - people are simply far too serious!
