Device for guiding photons coming from the scintillation towards the photomultiplier, adapting the rectangular exit of the scintillator to the round entrance of the photomultiplier to prevent any loss of light.
This is a photograph of the 34th Airtricity sponsored Dublin City Marathon which was held in Dublin, Ireland on Bank Holiday Monday 28th October 2013 at 09:00. There was dry but very blustery conditions for the runners over the famous Dublin Marathon course which seen over 14,000 people participating in the event making it a record participation at the event. Photographs were taken at the start of all three waves, near the finish line from the winner to 2:43 finish time, and then some photographs at the 25.5 mile mark of approximately 3:40 finish time participants.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Luke Wroblewski, CEO & Co-Founder of Input Factory Inc., the "Mobile First" author, gives An Event Apart presentation entitled "It’s a Write/Read (Mobile) Web."
On the surface, content is king online. But digging deeper into the underbelly of the web reveals a complex ecosystem of communication and contribution that shapes the web and how we interact with it. What lessons can we learn from the web’s inner workings as we move to a mobile-driven, multi-device internet? Luke will not only lift the covers on where we need to focus our efforts but share lots of practical advice on how as well.
I don't really know what the title of this piece is; I saw a crease pattern in a book, and some basic illustrations of the finished design. This is my best effort at recreating the crease pattern and folding sequence, which I think comes out to be very close to Fujimoto's finished design. I have no idea how he handled some of the collapses, so I did them in the method that makes the most sense to me.
This design is very similar to the star twist v2 I made a while back; this is actually the layout I had been trying to accomplish when I designed that piece. I knew it could be done, but the method has eluded me- and now I know that Fujimoto folded it back in 1976, two years before I was even born.
The folding on this model is really somewhat difficult- I actually folded a partial crease pattern first to get the methodology down, and figure out how I would do it; after that, it was pretty easy. Some of the steps seem illogical but make sense once you understand how it all works. I'd diagram it for you but I don't particularly want to bring down the origami copyright nuts on my head, so you're left to your own devices- but I'll post the crease pattern. I'm not guaranteeing that it's remotely accurate, but it works out for the pattern I folded here.

strobist: since it was a quick and dirty "on location" shot, I had to manage with white papers to make a DIY studio on the white semi reflective table :) Depending on the camera angle there was few sheets of white paper for reflection on the sides of the device. SB-28 camera left at 1/4 power fired via radio trigger, and bounced of the ceiling, acting as a top light.

The Korean Service Medal is the primary United States medal for participation in the Korean War and is awarded to any U.S. service member, who performed duty in the Republic of Korea, between June 27, 1950 and July 27, 1954. The United States Department of Defense declared thirteen official campaigns of the Korean War, all of which are annotated by service stars on the Korean Service Medal. The silver star device indicates his participation in five campaigns during two Korean War tours:

Through a new partnership with the government of Denmark, UNOPS is providing electricity generators and heating devices to people living in Ukraine’s Mykolaiv region.
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has caused significant damage to the country’s infrastructure and energy networks. In November 2022, the Ukrainian government reported the destruction of 40 per cent of Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Damaged infrastructure has also affected energy and heating supply to 15 regions across the country.
In response to the crisis, the government of Denmark tasked UNOPS to deliver $18 million worth of much-needed electricity and heating equipment – including electricity generators, boiler houses, power banks and other essential items that will provide communities with access to electricity and heating during the cold winter months. Initially focusing on the Mykolaiv region, the project is expected to expand to other areas across the country.
“Working at the college has not been the same since we shifted to online learning. We train nurses, ambulance attendants, and pharmacists, who have to learn ways to perform practical manipulations, and teaching that through a screen is nearly impossible. We are all looking forward to welcoming our students back, and we want that to happen as soon as possible,” says Olena.

55 years old police club that belonged to my father, Mordechai Bercovitz, of blessed memory, who served in Jerusalem Police Force for about 40 years. When I was about 5 years old I used to sleep with this club under my pillow, when my parents went out at night. I feel that it is a very old friend.

1- Our 7,000 sq. ft. Exhibit Hall will feature; our standard line of interactive robotic & technology exhibits that we sell to Centers world-wide and our exclusive collection of robotic exhibits & devices that we will not sell to anyone else. Our talking Rail Robot Guide will lead visitors through the exhibit hall. Interact with our innovative, lifelike, futuristic, Robotic creations. Examples; Play with & feed Artificial Life forms in a Robot Zoo! Challenge robots with your human intelligence! Interact with otherworldly artistic, interactive, robotic sculptures! It will also feature Responsible Technologies.
2- Our Art Galleries will display the hundreds of pieces of family friendly, original 2D, 3D and Interactive Art that our team has already created, plus have revolving Family Oriented Local Artists Exhibitions.
3- The surrounding 10 acres is slowly being transformed into an Outdoor Interactive Art & Nature Area that will be filled with paths, trees, gardens and kinetic & interactive, solar & wind, technological art sculptures. The emphasis is edible, medicinal & organic landscapes that promote sustainability & health. As of 2015 over 3,000 edible and medicinal trees and shrubs have been planted.
4- We will provide “Special Tours” of behind the scenes areas. Examples are; (a) our Humanitarian & Environmental Research & Development Think Tank Invention labs that feature our R & D Projects. (b) the actual workshops where the attractions are created (similar to visiting the workshops & creations of Jim Henson’s creature shop). (c) a behind the scenes view of the production studio for the web series we are creating called the “Mysterious Lab of Robotics” (our robotic version of “Bill Nye the Science Guy” or “Beakman’s World”). (d) a chance to meet MRISAR’s internationally renowned robotics R & D team. A four member family team who since 2000 has designed, fabricated & marketed the earth’s largest selection of world-class robotic exhibits. The 2 youngest members joined the team as preschoolers.
5- “Public Enrichment Events”. Examples are; (a) special overnight events called “A Night with the Robots” (available no-where else in the world). Families can make reservations to spend the night on the center floor in sleeping bags or cots and experience special robotic demonstrations in a futuristic atmosphere. In recent years “A Night at the Museum” events have become very popular and highly accepted. (b) special classes on robotics for the general public. (c) Robotics Competitions. We are already providing technical assistance to teachers and academic establishments (both in the state and outside of the country), that are trying to enter robotic competitions, but lack the knowledge to fully instruct and inspire their students. A natural progression for this, once we are open for tourism, would be to offer to hold regional, national and international competitions at our location. (d) International conferences regarding Robotics and Beneficial R & D Conferences. (e) Collaborations, enrichment classes and internships in enhanced technologies with higher academic establishments; combining elements such as Cybernetics, Bionics, Mechatronics, Autonomics, Animatronics & Teleoperation.
6- Admission will be free to the underprivileged. We hope to inspire the upcoming generation to create careers in responsible technologies that improve the quality of life.
7- The proceeds from the Center will help fund our R & D and further our creation of a “Prototype Environment, low cost, low impact, self-sustaining, alternative energy powered, Humanitarian & Environmental Research & Development institute with Think Tank Invention labs”. Our purpose is to invent and present responsible, low cost and easy to implement, beneficial humanitarian and environmental based technologies and methods that assist with social, ecological, sustainable and economic solutions. Accomplishing the prototype environment alone requires research & development of new technologies & improvement of existing technologies.

Five people were arrested and more than 30 uninsured cars taken off the roads during a GMP operation involving more than 60 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras.
ANPR devices are used by police around the UK to detect and remove serious criminals, unsafe vehicles and unsafe drivers from our roads.
Operation Galileo ran between 3pm and 11pm on Thursday 30 June 2011, more than 150 police officers were involved in the force-wide operation.
ANPR devices scan vehicle registrations and check them against information stored on the Police National Computer (PNC) and other databases. Officers are instantly alerted if the vehicle is of interest to police. Those vehicles are then stopped by police and the occupants spoken to.
Officers intercepted 87 vehicles and seized 31 cars that were being driven without insurance.
Superintendent Craig Thompson, from GMPs Specialist Operations Branch, said: ‘Many criminals rely on vehicles to commit crime and by denying them use of the roads we are better placed to enforce the law and prevent and detect crime.
’We know there is a strong link between illegal use of motor vehicles on the road and other types of serious crime and ANPR cameras are an invaluable tool in our fight against committed criminals and organised crime groups.
’The message to those who flout the rules of the road or who use our highways in the pursuit of crime is quite simple - we will use all the equipment available to us to identify you and bring you to justice.
’We have seized dozens of cars that were being driven without insurance and it is these drivers that can have the biggest impact and cause the most inconvenience to other motorists.
’The public should be reassured that this is by no means a one-off operation and we will be carrying out similar crackdowns in the near future.
’We are committed to ensuring that the majority of people who lawfully use our roads continue to do so unhindered’.
