A few weeks ago there was a post on the Adafruit blog about such a puke flash light. Today I happened to see this on TV.
For many years, as a requirement of the course, Occupational Adaptations and Introduction to Modalities, students make assistive devices of potential use to people with disabilities.
On Wednesday March 18, 2015 MOT students showcased their devices during class.
After a guided tour of Barcelona by coach (in the rain), our tour guide took us for a scheduled visit to the Sagrada Familia, at about 12:30pm CEST (we arrived a bit early). After queuing up, and getting through airport style security, we were giving a earphones set and a listening device.
Our guide took us into the Sagrada Familia and pointing out details of interest. So many people inside. So many colours! My camera was still wet from the rain, so was a lot of rain droplets on the resulting photos here.
The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família (Catalan: [səˈɣɾaðə fəˈmili.ə]; Spanish: Templo Expiatorio de la Sagrada Familia; "Expiatory Church of the Holy Family") is a large unfinished Roman Catholic church in Barcelona. Designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926), his work on the building is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In November 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the church and proclaimed it a minor basilica.
In 1882, construction of Sagrada Família began under architect Francisco DE Paula Del Villa. In 1883, when Villa resigned, Gaudí took over as chief architect, transforming the project with his architectural and engineering style, combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms. Gaudí devoted the remainder of his life to the project, and he is buried in the crypt. At the time of his death at age 73 in 1926, when he was run down by a tram, less than a quarter of the project was complete.
Relying solely on private donations, Granada Familiar's construction progressed slowly and was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War. In July 1936, revolutionaries set fire to the crypt and broke their way into the workshop, partially destroying Gaudí's original plans, drawings and plaster models, which led to 16 years work to piece together the fragments of the master model. Construction resumed to intermittent progress in the 1950s. Advancements in technologies such as computer aided design and computerized numerical control (CNC) have since enabled faster progress and construction past the midpoint in 2010. However, some of the project's greatest challenges remain, including the construction of ten more spires, each symbolising an important Biblical figure in the New Testament. It is anticipated that the building can be completed by 2026, the centenary of Gaudí's death.
The basilica has a long history of splitting opinion among the residents of Barcelona: over the initial possibility it might compete with Barcelona's cathedral, over Gaudí's design itself, over the possibility that work after Gaudí's death disregarded his design, and the 2007 proposal to build a tunnel of Spain's high-speed rail link to France which could disturb its stability. Describing Sagrada Família, art critic Rainer Zerbst said "it is probably impossible to find a church building anything like it in the entire history of art", and Paul Goldberger describes it as "the most extraordinary personal interpretation of Gothic architecture since the Middle Ages".

The Olympic Games are measures of human excellence but what happens when those measures are disrupted by self-augmentation and body modification? Our biological apparatus is in flux, vulnerable, yet re-imagined by technology. What will ability and disability mean in an era of genetically modified athletes and surgically sculpted children? How are artists contributing to this research and debate? For example, genetically screening for ‘perfect pitch’ may produce ideal singers, but whose ideal? Alternatively, what will the integration of future technology within biology mean for how humans communicate with each other via performances (dance, music or sport)? .

This is a photograph from the Rathfarnham 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which took place in Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin, Ireland on Sunday 29th September 2013 at 10:00.
This is one of the most popular runs in South County Dublin and is held in support of St. Luke's Cancer Hospital, Rathgar. This year's race attracted over 1,300 participants and the run is open to runners, joggers and walkers. The course is one of the fastest 5ks in the country with a downhill start and finish. This is an excellently organised race with marhsalling at every junction and Garda enforced road closures for the duration of the race.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was a record number of participants with over 1,300 people taking to the start line.
Weather: This race was held on a beautiful autumn morning. There was little or no breeze and there was mild temperatures of around 15C for the race.
Course: Overall this course is a flat and fast course. There is a net gain of 15M over the whole course with slightly downhill gradients at the start and towards the finish. The course is completely left-handed which makes for favourable conditions. All being equal the course provides an excellent opportunity for every from elite competitors to joggers to set a fast time for themselves.
The race starts at the easterly side of the N81 Tempelogue Road and Springfield Avenue. The start area is shown here on Google StreetView (goo.gl/maps/kg7FY). The race follows Springfield Avenue along the side of Bushy Park. The race overlaps the final kilometer and the finish as it proceeds to the Rathfarnham Road (Shown here Google Streetview goo.gl/maps/gRrI6). The route heads north on Rathfarnham road as there is a very gentle incline until the junction with the Temleogue Road is reached and runners make a sharp left turn onto the N81 (shown here Google StreetView goo.gl/maps/51S2t). The race then heads south along Templeogue Road where the runners can see the course unfold straight infront of them. The race turns left at Springfield Avenue again (start area) and the final Kilometer is as the first to the finish area (Google Streetview goo.gl/maps/1R08S) just before the Rathfarnham Road Junction.

Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

SXSW 2013 ran from March 8 to 17.
The big-budget films The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and Evil Dead premiered at the 2013 SXSW Film, and Spring Breakers had its U.S. premiere. The film Short Term 12 won the grand jury award for Best Narrative Feature. The films Cheap Thrills and Haunter received distribution deals, and Drinking Buddies obtained a distribution deal several days later.
The 2013 SXSW Interactive saw another huge jump in registration, now with 30,621 paying attendees. This was over three times the number that had attended in 2008 (9,000), just five years previously. The keynote talk for the 2013 SXSW Interactive was given by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. The "Screenburn" and "Arcade" components were renamed to "SXSW Gaming" and "SXSW Gaming Expo", respectively.
The Interactive conference was noted for its increased corporate presence, featuring major participation by Samsung, 3M, Target, American Airlines, Adobe Systems and AT&T, among others. CNN, CBS and CNET called Grumpy Cat the undisputed "biggest star" of SXSW Interactive over Musk, Al Gore and Neil Gaiman.

On Friday, June 26, the Greensboro Hazardous Devices Team (bomb squad) was at Sumner Civitan Park in Greensboro with their mobile command center to provide an overview of the responsibilities and tools of the Hazardous Devices Team to Cub Scouts from across the region. This team is responsible for the safe handling and disposal of explosive devices and materials that are encountered by other officers and citizens. The Team also conducts training for local industry in bomb search techniques.

In order to reduce the multi-billion dollar cost of corrosion on military vehicles, the sponsor, ElectraWatch, has developed a device called the Coating Health Monitor (CHM), a wireless corrosion coating monitor. The current CHM enclosure is not optimized for long-term usage or resistance to sustained environmental exposure, and does not meet military specifications for vibration and shock resistance. The project focused on redesigning the CHM enclosure to meet these specifications and developing FEA analyses to model the vibration and shock testing requirements with the support of physical test results.

This is a photograph from the finish of the 2nd annual running of the Trim AC 10 Mile Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 7th February 2016 at 12:00. The race attracted over 650 participants and already the event shows growth on last year's number of participants. The race started on the Trim/Athboy road on the town's ring road and proceded to take an anti-clockwise loop out towards the village of Dunderry and townland of Kilbride before returning back to the Trim Industrial Estate for the finish. The route is all quiet country roads with some hills at 3, 6, 8 mile segments. Today the weather was every runner's nightmare: very cold air temperatures and from mile 4 until the finish a very strong headwind. While the weather was dry without any rain the windy conditions made a very fair course challenging. Waterstops were provided at the 4.5 and 7 mile marks on the course. All access roads were well stewarded. The event was sponsored by Bewleys 1840 and many local business establishments. Credit must go to the Trim AC team for their flawless organisation. This race will continue to grow. For runners around the North Leinster area this 10 mile race serves as a perfect training progress stepping stone to the Bohermeen Half Marathon which will take place in March 2016 and is located only 15 minutes drive from Trim. This yet again proves that a great club with great local support and volunteers can organise great road races!

BAUT is a project by Jan Brokof (Drawings / Collages), Alfredo Bautista (Sound Installations / Noise Devices), Theo Boettger (Drawings / Installations), and Martin Böttger (Visual Art / Sculpture).
The concept of the project BAUT is to found a band of different ascendancies of music; combining different genre like noise, electronic, break beat, metal, punk, rap, and soundscapes. The project is supposed to involve all things, a regular music band represents plus exploring the possibilities of visual artistic expression within a showcase.
Their first exhibition was held at the gallery Delikatessenhaus Leipzig; where they created three different rooms: a festival room for the performance, a merchandise room for selling shirts and vinyl, and finally the backstage room.

What happens if you take four artists who had nothing to do with music so far, give them a barrel full of magazines and electro garbage and ask them to create an audiovisual work out of it. Together. As a band with bandname, livegig, labeldeal, release etc. We have checked it out and don't want to withhold the result from the world.
Their oeuvre can be best described as experimental noise. The lyrics are mostly collages of quotations from diverse magazines and newspapers which were modified and combined with own text passages.

Historic Environment Record for H BUILDING, Malvern, UK
The building, having military purposes and designated locally as H building, sits on a former Government Research site in Malvern, Worcestershire at Grid Ref SO 786 447. This site was the home of the Telecommunications Research Establishment (TRE) from 1946. It has been owned by QinetiQ since 2001 and is in the process (October 2017 to February 2018) of being sold for redevelopment.
This unique building has at its heart a ‘Rotor’ bunker with attached buildings to house radar screens and operators as well as plant such as emergency generators. Twenty nine Rotor operational underground bunkers were built in great urgency around Britain to modernise the national air defence network, following the Soviet nuclear test in 1949. Two factors make H building’s construction and purpose unique; this prototype is the only Rotor bunker built above ground and it was the home to National Air Defence government research for 30 years.This example of a ROTOR bunker is unique instead of being buried, it was built above ground to save time and expense, as it was not required to be below ground for its research purpose.
H Building was the prototype version of the Rotor project R4 Sector Operations Centre air defence bunkers. Construction began in August 1952 with great urgency - work went on 24 hours a day under arc lights. The main bunker is constructed from cross bonded engineering bricks to
form walls more than 2 feet thick in a rectangle approximately 65ft x 50ft. The two internal floors are suspended from the ceiling. The original surrounding buildings comprise, two radar control and operator rooms, offices and machine plant.
The building was in generally good order and complete. The internal layout of the bunker remains as originally designed. The internal surfaces and services have been maintained and modernised over the 55 years since its construction (Figure 3). The first floor has been closed over.
There are some later external building additions around the periphery to provide additional accommodation.
In parts of the building the suspended floor remains, with 1950s vintage fittings beneath such as patch panels and ventilation ducts.
The building has been empty since the Defence Science & Technology Laboratories [Dstl] moved out in October 2008
As lead for radar research, RRE was responsible for the design of both the replacement radars for the Chain Home radars and the command and control systems for UK National Air Defence.
Project Rotor was based around the Type 80 radar and Type 13 height finder. The first prototype type 80 was built at Malvern in 1953 code named Green Garlic. Live radar feeds against aircraft sorties, were fed into the building to carry out trials of new methods plotting and reporting air activity
A major upgrade of the UK radar network was planned in the late 1950s – Project ‘Linesman’ (military) / ‘Mediator’ (civil) – based around Type 84 / 85 primary radars and the HF200 height finder. A prototype type 85 radar (Blue Yeoman) was built adjacent to H Building in 1959. live radar returns were piped into H Building.
Subsequently a scheme to combine the military and civil radar networks was proposed. The building supported the research for the fully computerised air defence scheme known as Linesman, developed in the 1960s, and a more integrated and flexible system (United Kingdom Air Defence Ground Environment or UKADGE) in the 1970s.
The building was then used for various research purposes until the government relinquished the main site to QinetiQ in 2001. Government scientists continued to use the building until 2008. Throughout its life access was strictly controlled by a dedicated pass sytem.
Notable civil spin-offs from the research in this building include the invention of touch screens and the whole UK Civil Air Traffic Control system which set the standard for Europe.
Chronology
1952 - Construction work is begun. The layout of the bunker area duplicates the underground version built at RAF Bawburgh.
1953 - Construction work is largely completed.
1954 - The building is equipped and ready for experiments.
1956-1958 - Addition of 2nd storey to offices
1957-1960 - Experiments of automatic tracking, novel plot projection systems and data management and communications systems tested.
1960-1970 - Project Linesman mediator experiments carried out including a novel display technique known as a Touch screen ( A World First)
TOUCHSCREEN
A team led by Eric Johnson in H building at Malvern. RRE Tech Note 721 states: This device, the Touch Sensitive Electronic Data Display, or more shortly the ‘Touch Display’, appears to have the potential to provide a very efficient coupling between man and machine. 1980-1990 - During this period experiments are moved to another building and H building is underused.
1990-1993 - The building was re-purposed and the bunker (room H57) had the first floor closed over to add extra floor area.
2008- The bunker was used until late 2008 for classified research / Joint intelligence centre
2019 - Visual Recording of the buildings interior by MRATHS. Be means of a LIDAR scan and photographs being taken. The exterior was mapped with a drone to allow a 3D Image of the building to be created via Photogrammetry. This was created in Autodesk Photo Recap.
2020 - Building demolished as part of the redevelopment of the site.
