When Doctor Who visited Archimedes, the brilliant scientist managed to create a simplified analogue of the Tardis. Recently, Sicilian specialists managed to recreate this booth based on the surviving drawings of Archimedes, because in fact, the Roman warrior understood the genius of the scientist, and the drawings of the device have been preserved.

Claude Elwood Shannon is probably known only to communications engineers with his sampling theorem (fundamentals of digital conversion). The fact that he also invented all sorts of absurd devices, such as this Leave me alone box, around 1952, makes him likeable as a scientist.

A suspicious device was across the street from Toys R Us. They blocked off one of the entrances to the Lakeland Square Mall. Lakeland Police was first on scene. LPD doesn't have a bomb squad, so they had to wait on TPD's bomb squad to arrive. After close investigation, it was determined to be a low jack device beeping because the vehicle it was taken off of, was stolen.

This Great Gray Owl landed on this small pine tree in front of about 30 people all with some kind of device aimed at him. I kept waiting for him to look in our direction but all of his attention was on catching his next meal...a vole. This is the intense look of a 'well trained hunter' who polished off about 4 voles while we all watched in awe!

A strange rear end device still proves its worth in 2022. One of the very few remaining signs of industrial space served by railroad on Chicago's near northwest side. I've always been more partial to the Milwaukee Road in this sector of the city, but hell all of that dried up for a while now. The 606 Trail put the Bloomingdale Line out of its misery. Chicago Terminal street running is also clearly long gone. For whatever reason I can't find the motivation to track down 40th Street operations with the same passion.
With nothing else going on, I've been parked in the neighborhood on the east end of Galewood Yard. No signs of a crew van showing up for one of the CP military engines leading a sand train for Mingo Jct, OH via NS. The scanner though HAS been chirping about on an unfamiliar channel. It took me a good 20 minutes to figure out that of course the only job I would be hearing switching anywhere around had to be this guy.

Occupying a prominent position overlooking the Solent at the entrance to Southampton Water, Calshot Castle is an artillery fort
(a Device Fort) constructed by Henry VIII on Calshot Spit, Hampshire, England, between 1539 and 1540, suspected to have been constructed using stone from the recently dissolved Beaulieu and Netley Abbeys.
The castle finally closed in 1961 after a variety of uses, and is now cared for by English Heritage.
The window openings give an idea of the thickness of the walls.
The Tower to the right is completely separate, and is the National Coastwatch Institution Calshot Tower.
