This planet seems good. One species seem to be so populous they have infiltrated every continent. They do have some rudimentary language skills but their mathematic ability is so basic they would never be considered an intelligent species. Atmosphere is very similar to ours with minimal terra and bioforming needed making it cheap to colonize.
The fingers quickly tapped the device sending a communication to corporate headquarters that they could apply to the commission to colonize earth with a high degree of probability of being approved.
Within a decade the ships started arriving. Humans objected to being colonized and threw every nuclear weapon they could scrap up. The colonizers retreated back to orbit, baffled by a species intelligent enough to create a bomb that could destroy the atmosphere and stupid enough to deploy it. The colonizers requested equipment to cleanse the atmosphere which was an extra expense. By the time they received approval and the equipment, all life forms on earth were dead except for cockroaches.
The colony shipped in fauna and flora from their original planet. It was much better really. Normally it was very difficult to get permission to make a planet exactly like home. There were groups that fought for planetary diversity but really it wasn't the colonizers' fault the original species killed themselves and almost everything else.
No one was happy about the cockroaches tho. Not even the groups for planetary diversity as cockroaches spread quickly across the galaxies once a few managed to get aboard ships. Major funding was approved to eradicate them. Nothing worked. The cockroaches kept surviving and coming back. Very irritating.

Note: I added texture and the aqua lighting on the right through Photoshop. For the texture, I used NightCafe to create an image with two planets on one layer and then used the SoftLight filter in PS at 40% opacity. The aqua lighting I brushed two circles of aqua, then Guassian Filter to spread them out, then Vivid Light filters at differing opacity for each circle.

From my holidays in Morocco. I'm missing these sunny days in this beautiful country.
Holidays, travel and photography (and FLICKR) fit together... We travel and photograph and later we remember our holidays through the photographs we made, and this way, we can spend endless and very enjoyable moments. Well, this Winter, I've stayed at home all these rainy days and thanks God I've thousands of photographs to organize.
Flickr became my favourite tool to organize all my stuff in albums and collections. I have uploaded to Flickr 57,554 Photos (only 6,049 are public), and I still have many more to upload. In short, Flickr became my CLOUD and I make the most of the ORGANIZE tool. I even use Flickr to SHARE my photographs on Instagram, Facebook and others... It is my central web plataform. I cannot imagine living without Flickr...

Clockmaker Hugo Stanley established his clockmaker's shop in Lahti, Finland, in 1924. Besides keeping the shop he started to make electronic clocks and when 10 years were passed he came to establish a clock factory. Stanley's clock factory mainly
made electric functioning central clock systems to rail stations, schools and factories. The clock factory also made clocks to use outdoors and different "accurate" devices.
Information from late Timo Tuomivaara: "During the last years of WW2 the Finnish army asked Hugo Stanley to make new
handcuffs very fast, because there weren't any handcuffs available to the market. His son has told that he and his father packed about 1 000 handcuffs to small, green boxes and the boxes were sent to the frontier to the military police and officers."
The lock system was made for working with the same key as the Finnish Konepaja Voima handcuffs since they also were in use on the field. The Hugo Stanley's factory employed about 10 people and was equipped with very up to date machinery. After Hugo Stanley died in 1956 his sons Arent and Oswald Stanley continued the clock factory until 1972 when they went out of
business.
The Hugo Stanley handcuffs are high precision piece of work, what else could you expect from a clock maker?
A North American residential circuit breaker. Restored Reading Lines FP7 903 and SMS Lines GP38-3 2003 (original Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines GP38 2003) were parked at the Woodstown Central's station.

Originally, the Harris shutter was a device with three colour filters, allowing the photographer to make a single photo of a time series of shots with different primary colours. When the camera is kept steady, areas of the photo without any change end up having the same colour as in reality, whereas areas where motion takes place give a kind of rainbow effect.
Music & the devices we have invented to listen to it are amazing discoveries/inventions that humankind has created. I know music makes me smile. :)

The bridge, planned by the French colonial power in 1899-1902 and built mainly by the Vietnamese among numerous victims, is almost 1.7 km long and has only been allowed for mopeds and pedestrians for many years. The traffic dictates, especially during rush hour, the wearing of a mask or a durable device... crossing the bridge on foot is an adventure in every way.

'early warning device' On Black
This is called "aka tonbo" 赤とんぼ in Japanese, literally-- red dragonfly.
I like the red rectangular pattern near the tip of the wings:)
A strange rear end device still proves its worth in 2022. One of the very few remaining signs of industrial space served by railroad on Chicago's near northwest side. I've always been more partial to the Milwaukee Road in this sector of the city, but hell all of that dried up for a while now. The 606 Trail put the Bloomingdale Line out of its misery. Chicago Terminal street running is also clearly long gone. For whatever reason I can't find the motivation to track down 40th Street operations with the same passion.
With nothing else going on, I've been parked in the neighborhood on the east end of Galewood Yard. No signs of a crew van showing up for one of the CP military engines leading a sand train for Mingo Jct, OH via NS. The scanner though HAS been chirping about on an unfamiliar channel. It took me a good 20 minutes to figure out that of course the only job I would be hearing switching anywhere around had to be this guy.

There are countless stories about the power of Marie Laveau as a voodoo queen, sorceress, healer, and psychic, but none of these are documented historically. Voodoo, brought to New Orleans by African slaves and immigrants from Santo Domingo and Haiti, has been practiced since the 1700s. Even today some people have voodoo altars in their homes and participate in voodoo rituals.
In time the name of Marie Laveau became distorted. Mothers threatened their children that she would put a curse on those who didn't behave. She was thought of as an evil witch, capable of causing unimaginable trouble. But there are also reports of her as a nurse. Others mention that small children went to her home every Saturday morning for the brown sugar sticks she would hand out.

As "Master of Crossroads" Legba is the god of every parting of the way--a favorite haunt of evil spirits and propitious to magic devices; and it is at crossroads that he receives the homage of sorcerers and presides over their incantations and spells. Because of his politeness and caring nature he is greeted as Papa Legba. He is a much loved loa.
The interpreter to the gods can deliver the messages of the gods in human language and interpret their will. He is the god of destiny, honored first at every ceremony, receiving first offerings. He is represented by a wooden or iron phallus mounted in a little mound of earth in front of every house. Legba is also known to hold the "key of the spiritual world".

After painstakingly sorting out my Kodachrome slides, this part was activated again. A Novoflex bellows and the Zeiss Planar 50mm f2 from Contarex. Adapted to my SONY a7R with an adapter.
Just throw the slides in the trash...no, too many memories of each one.

Today is International Day of Happiness. I was personally very happy to find my old journal that i started when i was in school. I used to carry this with me everywhere and jot down ideas for concepts, things i wanted to shoot (either for school or not), inspirations. The particular pages in the image on the right show my notes and "mind map" for a school assignment that ultimately generated one of my favorite images: this photo of Patrick.
Nowadays, i make notes wherever i am in the fantastic and irreplaceable Evernote, but there's something about the physical act of writing/sketching on paper that electronic devices will never replace. Maybe i'll start carrying a notebook again...

Back in 2008, a Wisconsin and Southern plow extra was cutting through the powder in Devil's Lake State Park.
At the time, there were still several wig-wag equipped crossing devices on the line; of course, they have all since been removed.
One of the workshops we did in Costa Rica was a "controlled" venomous snake photo shoot. These were wild snakes caught for the purposes of the workshop, and then released afterward. The snakes were put onto naturalistic looking settings, and then we were left to our own devices to photograph them.
This is by far the most venomous and deadly snake I have ever photographed without the benefit of a glass partition.
Meet the Fer-de-lance. This was a baby (about 18 in. long). Adults can reach seven feet, and are about as thick as my lower leg. I saw a full-grown adult at Waterfall Gardens (behind glass) and it looked HUGE! It was described to us that if one is envenomated by this species your blood basically breaks down, and you bleed from from your eyes, mouth, nose, ears - basically everywhere. This is considered the most dangerous snake in Costa Rica, and accounts for more than half of all venomous snake bites.
Needless to say, it should not surprise any of you that several times while photographing this snake, I would feel a gentle push backwards on my elbow from one of the guides. Yep, I kept getting too close. It is very easy to be lulled into a false since of security by a calm snake. Also while looking through the view-finder "objects may be closer then they appear".
I was really hoping for find a wild Fer-de-lance, but I was pretty thrilled when they brought out this one for the workshop. What a deadly beauty!
