M. Mert Egilmez, a mechanical engineering research fellow, explains to colleagues how it felt to wear a vibration-based therapeutic device during a demonstration test in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Building on North Campus of the University of Michigan College of Engineering in Ann Arbor, MI on November 6, 2017.
The research project, led by Himanshu Saxena under the direction of Bogdan Epureanu, PhD, a professor of mechanical engineering, and Kevin Ward, MD, a professor of emergency medicine, aims to study the health benefits of controlled mechanical vibrations on the human body through the use of a therapeutic device.
The project is making its way through the Coulter Translational Research Partnership Program within the Department of Biomedical Engineering, which seeks to accelerate the development of university technologies into new products to improve health care.

When I saw Steve Jobs demoing the iPad at the ominous Apple Keynote I asked myself: Isn't it just a big iPod touch? That time my answer to the question was "yes, it is, nothing more". Now, that I have seen the device, touched it, and used it, I can state that software-wise it might be "just a fat iPod touch", but when you start using it, it is certainly much more.
I don't know how it could fit into my life, and I surely don't need one… but I want one. :)

Finally saw the new Logitech Squeezebox Duet at Macworld today. According to the Slim Devices dude - they are finalizing the hardware by the end of January, and it's going to be released to people on the waiting list in February.
The receiver is basically a Squeezebox v3 without the display (sorta - it has a Wolfson DAC as opposed to a Burr-Brown (I don't believe that this is a detrimental change)). Also, this one doesn't have a built in mini-RCA headphone jack, but it should come with an RCA to mini-RCA adaptor. The receiver will sell seperately for $150, the controller for $299, or you can buy both as a bundle for 399. (List prices - not sure what it will street for yet...)

On a beautiful day. I decided to take a portrait in my garden. The image I took with the camera device of the iPhone 12 Pro Max with 1080p HD resolution looks very sharp. In the photo, I'm wearing a white unisex t-shirt by Eightoon Studio. I have a big round face that looks very cute. White skin lane suits me. I sit on the swing and behind is my garden.

Photographs in this collection have been produced by Erica Pallo and Connor Rowe in order to chronicle the course activities of the students of UC Berkeley Summer 2011 Anthropology 136E class, under the direction of professors Ruth Tringham and Michael Ashley, as they digitally document and interpret the cultural heritage of El Presidio de San Francisco (the Presidio of San Francisco) from the 18th to the early 19th Centuries.
The purpose of the course is to focus on the real world challenge of documenting archaeological places through the creation of interpretive walks and non-invasive site installations, specifically at the Presidio of San Francisco. The course focuses on the tangible remains and documents of the past, but also the intangible heritage in the form of memories, knowledge, performance, and skills of the past of the San Francisco Presidio and El Polin Spring (Tennessee Hollow Watershed).
The course involves the design, field trial, and documentation of these different formats of representation of cultural heritage places, with an emphasis on practical digital field recording combined with geo-temporal databases. The aim is to seek alternatives to permanent markers of information about places, and their tangible and intangible heritage, especially in sensitive sites, such as national or regional parks. The course takes advantage of the many specialists in these technologies in the Bay Area, especially the Presidio Archaeology Lab of the Presidio Trust, with whom the class has contact and who have offered to contribute their help to the course.
The San Francisco Presidio (37°47'N, 122°27'W) and surrounding areas (like the Mission Dolores) was a military-occupied fortification controlled by various empires/governments throughout history including Spain (1776-1821), Mexico (1822-1846), and the United States of America (1846-1994 as an Army post, with the ownership of the park to be fully transitioned to the National Park Service by 2013). Archaeological excavations began on the site in 1993 after development expansion projects unearthed parts of the original stone foundation of El Presidio's Spanish fort beneath the Funston Avenue Officers’ Quarters by archaeological consultants working for the the U.S. Army.
Photographs in this collection were shot between July 5-August 12, 2011 during the hours of 9am-4pm Pacific Time under a multitude of atmospheric conditions. Photos were captured on the following cameras: Apple iPhone 4 with an external lens device attached called the OWLE Bubo, Canon DSLR XSi/T2i, S95, Sony Cybershot, Canon Powershot. Lenses used include: Macro 60mm, Telephoto 70-200, Canon 18-55mm, Canon 17-85mm. A tripod was used for Gigapan, telephoto, and HDR shots. Various types of mobile phones were also used for documentation shots and Geo-tagging. The photos were post-processed in Apple iPhoto and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.

Now for something completely different! "Alonzo and the Devices" fill auditorium of the Grandview Legion with an amazing set of original Rhythm & Blues with a jazz feel. The crowd loved it! The dance floor was full of people dancing to songs that were being played live for the first ever! Alonzo Munoz Wang brought his music to a live show and it was amazing!

Three M.A.D. (Magnetic Acoustic Devices) from HPV Technologies (www.getmad.us), during a demo for military, law enforcement, and government tech experts from the US and abroad, at Edwards Air Force Base in Palmdale (Sep 1, 2005). The devices are capable of broadcasting a highly focused, "laser-like" beam of sound in such a way that it is intelligible for a mile or more. The event was organized by the LA Sherriff's Department, which is considering using the devices for civil unrest and disaster communications. A donated device will be shipped to authorities in Mississippi for those purposes this week.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today urged West Virginia drivers to use hands-free devices while driving and commended the West Virginia Division of Highways for raising awareness of our state's new law which makes it a crime to text or talk on a hand-held cell phone while driving.
Students from George Washington High School attended the press conference and signed the Safe Driver's Pledge.
As part of the governor's "Drive. Hands-Free." public safety campaign, motorists traveling through the Mountain State today will now see the message "Drive. Hands-Free. Don't Text and Drive." on all interstate and turnpike message boards between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
"In a moment of distraction, life can change in an instant. Please, don't let your last words be a text," said Gov. Tomblin. "Young drivers, talk to your parents. And parents, talk to your kids. Sit down together and take my safe driver's pledge. Together, we will make our roads safer."
Gov. Tomblin's safe driver pledge is available at www.governor.wv.gov. West Virginia is one of many states using highway signs today to encourage cell phone users to make a lifelong commitment to safety by pledging to not text and drive.
"Texting and driving is a deadly combination and, thanks to the leadership of Governor Tomblin and the West Virginia Legislature, it is now against the law," said West Virginia Department of Transportation Secretary Paul Mattox. "We have been working diligently to remind the traveling public of its dangers in an effort to help curb this epidemic."
As of July 1, 2012 it is a primary driving offense to text while driving and a secondary driving offense to talk on a hand-held cell phone while driving in West Virginia. Beginning July 1, 2013, talking on a hand-held cell phone while driving becomes a primary offense-enabling police officers to pull you over and ticket you for the infraction.

i did it! i actually downgraded from my nook color to the new nook simple touch. which basically means i have given up hoping and waiting for a color e-ink reader.
LOVE how slim and light it is.
HATE how hard the page click buttons are, nothing like the soft touch buttons nook 1st ed had.
COMPARED with nook color - well, this one is a plain vanilla ebook reader, with lovely rubberized panels for holding without dropping the device, lighter than NC but seems sturdier somehow. and the display is really easy on the eyes.

A device for shrinking time and distance - Pontiac GTO
This was pretty much the only advertising Pontiac did for the first year GTO in 1964. It's an 8 page insert that was staped into the center of a few car magazines.
Owning a 1964 Pontiac GTO, over the years I have collected a lot of memorabilia and literature to go along with my car.
While attending the 1997 POCI national convention in Denver, Colorado (July, '97), I was able to meet John Delorean (who was at one time the head of Pontiac and the main person responsible for getting the GTO off the drawing board and into showrooms - Yes, the same Delorean who made the gull wing sports car as seen in the movie Back ToThe Future) and I was able to get him to autograph this for me.

The easy-to-use thermocouple placement device reproducibly spot welds up to 3 thermocouples directly onto the sample for temperature resolutions of 0.05°C across the full temperature range. The welding current and time, the contact pressure, and the inert gas purge can be adjusted to endure a strong spot weld onto the sample.
