Our Maker Art class created a Time Machine this year, inviting you to travel through time from the age of dinosaurs to the 50th century.

Our 4th and 5th graders at the Lycée Français designed their own scenes from the past, present or future, and brought them to life with motion, lights and sounds. They also worked in teams to build interactive features like illuminated keypads, spinners and doors, using the popular Arduino platform.

In our after-school classes, we combine art, technology and storytelling to help children create their own magical worlds. They learn to design their ideas, build them with a variety of tools, animate them with electronics and tell their stories. This unique multimedia course helps them develop their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills -- and builds their confidence that they can help change the world.

This year, we had a really good group of 9 students, ages 8 to 11 -- many of whom had taken our Maker Art classes before. They were very creative and engaged, and did a great job presenting their work at the Lycée Français -- and at Marinovators at the College of Marin on April 22.

This Maker Art class was taught by Fabrice Florin and Edward Janne at the Lycée Français in Sausalito in winter 2017. We met every week for 12 workshops of 90 minutes each, Thursdays at 3:30pm, from January 5 to March 30, 2017. Our teachers are part of the Tam Makers learning community and we prepared materials for this project in our state-of-the-art makerspace at the nearby Tam High School.

I was recently commissioned through etsy to create an altered cigar box for a 14 year old girl. I sent out my standard questionnaire but fount that the response didn't help me much. What I learned: she loves soccer, vintage, her dog, her brother and jesus. She also likes green and purple. She did add that she has big blue eyes and brown hair. I decided that rather than take all this info and try to squeeze it onto a box I would instead use her her colors and start with the theme of of coming of age. If I could get some of her other likes in there all the better. I figured that her parents chose to purchase this box from me for a reason so I went with my instinct. Here is the result.

We are creating an Art Float for Social Change at Tam Makers, to inspire more people to participate in democracy.

Our parade float features Mother Earth and a circle of hands, pulled by the colorful dragon Quetzy. Young activists will sing and speak about social change -- and artists will share their ideas on our spinning carousel. They want you all to vote, speak up and create a better world!

This community art project was created by over a hundred volunteers at Tam Makers, led by Fabrice Florin and Geo Monley, with the generous support of Good Earth, Mill Valley Community Action Network and Tamalpais High School.

The Art Float for Social Change will reach out to youth and people of color through art, music and technology. We will present this art show on Earth Day, Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades in Marin -- and throughout California this fall, to encourage people to vote in the next elections.

KUALA LUMPUR—Today Y.B. Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Minister of Transport for Malaysia, opened the 2nd China Malaysia Port Alliance Annual Meeting at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The meeting was held alongside the first Breakbulk Southeast Asia convention and exhibition for the project cargo and breakbulk industry.

The minister took the podium in front of more than 50 members of the alliance who gathered to discuss the alliance’s progress and several new initiatives. The China Malaysia Port Alliance was formed to support the two nation’s common objective to promote regional economic cooperation, increase investments and bring development and prosperity as part of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, also known as the One Belt and One Road initiative.

“Malaysia strongly supports the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiative and we are committed to work with China to further enhance the bilateral ties towards a comprehensive strategic partnership,” Minister Liow Tiong Lai. “The ultimate objective of the port alliance is to facilitate trade by using ports in Malaysia and China as the gateway.

Currently, there are six Malaysian ports and 10 Chinese ports in the alliance. Malaysia will add three new port members and China will add an additional two, he said. In the future, the alliance may expand membership to include shipping lines, freight forwarders and other key port partners.

China and Malaysia already have a strong collaboration with Chinese investment fueling various sectors. The minister mentioned a recently formed partnership with Alibaba, a Chinese technology leader, to create the Digital Free Trade Zone. “It will be the world’s first special trade zone that will promote the growth of e-commerce,” he said. “This initiative is part of the digital road map which aims to double ecommerce growth rate of SME’s goods exports to reach US$38 billion by 2025.

Other partnerships include the proposed Melaka Gateway Multipurpose Deep Sea Port, Maritime Industrial Park and the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.

He closed his comments by congratulating Port Klang Authority as Malaysia Secretariat and also the other Malaysian Ports on this initiative. Port Klang Authority General Manager Capt. K. Subramaniam will discuss the port’s perspective on regional project and breakbulk trade, as well as the port’s plans for development, at the Breakbulk Southeast Asia event on Thursday, 6 Sept. at 14:00 in Hall 4 of the KLCC.

On Thursday, May 19, more than 70 guests joined United Way for a reception and exclusive look at innovative technology and educational programs that are changing the St. Louis region for the better. Mural on 145th Street in the South Bronx.

I shot my first cage fight in WInchester at the end of September. It was a GFC event, and I thought it was pretty cool, honestly. Instead of posting a ton of pictures you probably don't want to look at, I created a couple of dual-panel images to tell the story.
