we learned the very helpful tip to bring scallops to room temperature before cooking, so they cook more evenly!
Never use a casserole dish on direct heat. Amazingly enough the temporary living place that I was in did not have a sauce pan. Who in their right mind doesn't have a sauce pan? Anyway I had this bright idea of using my casserole dish to cook my sauce for my spaghetti. It actually worked and my spaghetti was saved. But while washing it I guess cooking on direct heat weakened it's structural integrity and it broke.
